Afternoon tea in London for 30 people - where?

Hello, does anyone have a recommendation of somewhere I could hire for afternoon tea for around 30 people please?

Anywhere in London is fine. Maybe somewhere with private hire.

It's for our 10 year wedding anniversary- we're not party people at all so thought this would be a nice alternative, although I'm totally open to other suggestions. We'd be paying for the lot and there isn't really a budget.

All adults, non drinkers.

Thanks!

The Ritz would be a lovely option! I love going there for tea.

When is your anniversary?

Afternoon tea at the Ritz would be my idea of heaven.

Petersham nursery looks beautiful
sketch looks interesting
I’ve had claridges tea, it was amazing but expensive
the dilly and Piccadilly was nice as well

The afternoon tea bus intrigues me. How does the tea not go everywhere??!

what about one on the Thames?

Danikm151 · 17/08/2024 12:39

You can get afternoon tea buses that go around London. That may be special- book out the whole bus and tour around.

I’d mostly be worried about needing the loo after drinking so much tea!

As for the actual question, most hotels will have private rooms for hire you can ask. The Ampersand is absolutely fantastic for afternoon tea, and quite intimate, I’m sure they might be able to accommodate.

Hire the tea bus! I did a (classy, promise) hen do on it and I was expecting it to be really gimmicky, but it was amazing. You get travel mugs for the tea Smile

Some branches of the Ivy have private rooms you could book

Number 11 at Sloane Square

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'm going to look at all of them.

@TheSquareMile it's not until next summer but I am trying to get prepared!

Has anyone been to Brigit's Bakery?

Tea bus does sound fun but I wouldn't really get a chance to talk to everyone! Also get travel sick 😆

The Wallace Collection if you are booking well in advance. I was there recently and the afternoon tea looked nice. Short walk from Bond Street station.

Petersham nurseries is truly beautiful

A friend held an afternoon tea party Claridges for her 40th birthday. It was great as they got us a private room, If I recall there were about 35 of us.

They do offer a glass of champagne with the tea if there are drinkers who want to partake.

Afternoon tea boat with Bateaux London. We did this and it was great

ChapterJ · 18/08/2024 14:24

I definitely think we'll need a private room. Currently googling!

A boat sounds fun... but like the bus, I'm prone to travel sickness. Would it be an issue on a moored boat?

@ChapterJ

The Ritz has some beautiful private dining rooms in the William Kent house and even a garden, if the weather is predicted to be fine.

There are some photos here on this Event Organiser's site, but you could also contact the Ritz directly.

Cafe Royale on Regent St is my favourite place for afternoon tea. It's hidden and quiet and there is a pianist playing while you eat.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/08/2024 16:29

The afternoon tea bus is great, we hired the top deck for my birthday (brigits bakery one - the b bus)

It doesn't go fast enough to get travel sick !

Or hire a room at Claridges, it's lovely

ChapterJ · 19/08/2024 11:43

Thanks for all of these suggestions! I've sent out some enquiries now so will see what comes back. Don't think I could manage a bus though.

11 Cadogan Gardens. Beautiful place for a special occasion, not as touristy as the Ritz.

We went to the Cat Cafe for my DD birthday , I,m not sure how many people it sits, there are two floors .

We had scones and coffee but there are loads of menu options and I.m sure you could have a private party here.

The cats are fabulous there was a kitten romping about , most of the adults either sleeping or striding round
