Some ppl actually won a house for a £10 entry. I know its a very slim chance, but even a cash prize would be good for me. I would love the house near Pickering. I could rent out the stables etc.

Well if you win, I'm sure you could sell it for a lot more than £10 if you didn't want it

The last Cornwall one in fowey was declared “unsellable” by wise MNers who knew it was a big white elephant as it’s by the ferry route and who would want it ?

anyway, the winner did put it on the market after a few months (probably had a few family holidays there then sold up), Omaze said it was worth £4.5m, she sold it for £4.35m. I’d be happy with that return from a £10 ticket. (Plus she got £100k to help with moving costs, and all the furniture)

It’s rigged, potential winners are ‘vetted’ and every house won has been sold as all of them have some kind of issue

Surely most would be sold anyway, as I imagine lots of people enter with the intention of selling because they have no desire to move their whole life (new job, kids' schools, leaving friends etc) when they could sell and pocket the money.

Even if they're worth a fifth (or less) of the advertised value, it's still a pretty nice sum that would make a big difference to a lot of people's lives.

Having said that, I've never actually entered.

I would like to rent part of it, and live in one section of the house. I would rent the stables out to a riding school. Bridle paths would be no issue. But I would like to know who owns, and can cross the land, and what I could use the land for such has a camping site or cabins.

That's exactly my thought. If I won a £4m Omaze house and had to sell it for £3.5m, well I'd still be laughing all over my little fat face wouldn't I!

Love the Lake District house. I’d live in it if I was lucky enough to win it. Might even buy a boat (with an engine) as it’s got a jetty.

Teapot65 · 24/12/2024 18:47

wishing you good luck in the New Year 🥳😄

I've entered the draw for the lake district house too. I do feel it's a waste of money but my OH is always positive that one day he will win something from these things 🤣

Don’t forget you would need a decent amount of money if you did win it. Buildings insurance, council tax, etc.. also of you were to let sections, lease agreement (costs a few hundred) etc…

KnittedCardi · 06/01/2025 15:55

I would have loved the Surrey house. Just down the road from us, know the road, watched the house being built. Zero wrong with it. Lovely area. Didn't win. Sigh.
