I don't know if I have new job nerves or overthinking but after having 5 years of not working (had baby )
I'm returning to work
I start Monday
I'm working Monday -Tuesday-Wednesday 7am till 3pm
Off Thursday/Friday /Saturday
In Sunday 7-3pm
It's a 13 min drive (partner drops me off )
So I will be leaving the house around 6.40am
That means 6am alarm
I'm just worrying it's a really early start
And am i gonna manage

LOL.

tinydancer88 · 12/08/2024 20:40

I don't think anyone can tell you if it will work for your personal circumstances but plenty of people will get up at 6am for work (myself included) and it's not great but you do get used to it.

tinydancer88 · 12/08/2024 20:40

I think this is your nerves talking.

Doggymummar · 12/08/2024 20:40

You'll soon get used to it

iamthesuniamtheair · 12/08/2024 20:41

At the minute I'm awake at 6.30 am anyway as partner starts at 7am
So it's not because I can't wake up
I go to sleep around 10
I think I'm just thinking of problems etc.

Worrying i won't be good enough etc

Plenty of people are up at 6.00am to get ready for work, myself included. I work 7-3 in the office two days a week, I like it as I miss the worst of the traffic!

Sounds like it's mostly back to work nerves? Which is understandable if you haven't worked for some years. You may enjoy it, it's nice having some of the afternoon and early evening after finishing work.

PinkPlantCase · 12/08/2024 20:44

I think you’ll get used to it OP. It’ll feel hard for a week or two but you will adjust. Just remember to go to bed a bit earlier.

EbbandTheWanderingHearts · 12/08/2024 20:45

I did 7am til 3pm five days a week then 7.30pm til 11.15pm 3 evenings a week. I'm sure you'll be fine. I currently work 7.30am til 5.30pm 4 days. I'm up at 6am. I'm not particularly a morning person but I do what's needed to pay the bills.

mdinbc · 12/08/2024 20:47

How old is your little one, and do they have to be fed and brought to daycare?

ScottBakula · 12/08/2024 20:50

I think it's just your nerves talking at the minute, you will get use to it.
Or if you don't I will swap with you , I am on earlies this month and have to be up at 4.15 am and out of the house at 5am

swapcicles · 12/08/2024 20:57

I think if it's light or almost light when you leave the house then it's not so bad.
The only problem I have with early starts is my bowels don't wake up til about 8 😂.
Worst shifts were 2am til 10am, thought I'd have the day to do stuff, how wrong I was!

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 12/08/2024 21:00

You will get used to it, I'm up 6 my dp at 5. Guess what time we wake up on days off?😂
As for not being good enough, you are!!. We all feel like that starting a new job, it's only human.
You'll be fine. 💐

Nourishinghandcream · 12/08/2024 21:05

Some people manage early starts, others don't.

When I was working we were on flexitime and it was amazing how many people were in the office at 6am, we all agreed that it suited us best with the easy commute, getting a parking space, no phones ringing etc.
Come 3pm however there was an exodus leaving just a couple of late-starters to deal with whatever cropped up.

One of the things I love about being retired is the ability to sleep in, after all those years of 5am alarms it is sheer bliss!🙂

bonzaitree · 12/08/2024 21:06

Is it that you’re worrying about returning to work generally but fixating on this one thing?

xyz111 · 12/08/2024 21:24

I used to get up at 0530, go to the gym before then getting the train to work at 0700. You'll get used to it.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 12/08/2024 21:28

I work shifts my early is 0700-1600 I get up at 5 it's a doddle after you get used to it.

Finishing at 3with such a short commute you'll get most of the afternoon to do what you choose.

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/08/2024 21:35

DH has to get up at 4am some weeks (works in a warehouse for one of the major supermarkets). He and I have got used to it - and he actually prefers early shifts to later ones.
One early shift weeks he sleeps in the spare room. He also cooks dinner and we eat just after I finish (work from home) at 5pm. We have a couple of hours together before he goes to bed at 8-9am, then I clean up.

Boredlass · 12/08/2024 21:40

No, it’s not too early. I start at 7.30am until 6pm. I get up at 6am. You’ll get used to it.

rickandmorts · 12/08/2024 21:41

I start work at 4.30am and went back to work when my daughter was 9 months old. I'd love to start at 7am 😆

MooonDreamerz · 12/08/2024 21:42

It is early but would you rather do 9-5? Is that an option?

CrossCuntry · 13/08/2024 07:22

7-3 is my favourite shift - feels like you finish just after lunch and have the afternoon to yourself! I work flexible hours but always choose 7-3 when it fits with meetings etc.

6am isn't early to get up and if you get sorted with what you're going to wear, packed lunch etc before you go to bed then I think you'll be fine. Congratulations on the job!

JoJothegerbil · 13/08/2024 07:35

Do you struggle to get up in the mornings OP? A 7am start isn't that early, although the dark winter mornings might make it feel that way. You'll soon get used to it and you'll have most of the afternoon to yourself. I'd quite happily do 7-3 but I'm an early bird.

GatherlyGal · 13/08/2024 07:39

If your partner is dropping you off will you need to be getting your child up and in the car at that time?

MushMonster · 13/08/2024 07:44

You are overthinking this.
Though I would suggest you to get up a bit earlier if your worries are about your child getting up at the same time and wanting a bit of attention.
Also, I would leave a bit earlier, just in case there are any issues with the drive up there.
You will get used to it in no time. And going to bed a bit earlier, your body will adjust naturally.
By the time winter comes you will be used to it and it will not be as difficult as you think, at all.

Best luck with your new job!

rainbowunicorn · 13/08/2024 08:10

7am really isn't that early. You will soon get used to it.
