Promise that I am not a troll.

Looking for some advice on getting moving. I've been bunged up for days, stomach is big and I feel sickly.

Posting in chat for traffic. Away for a walk to see if that helps.

Lots of walking, milky coffees and sodium docusate finally sorted me out after major surgery

jokish · 12/08/2024 17:55

Milk of magnesia

WishICouldWinnow · 12/08/2024 17:55

Dulcolax is very effective, but you might want to stay home.
Dulcoease can be taken regularly to prevent further issues.
2 kiwi fruit a day (inc skin) has been shown to be effective for constipation, but it can still take a few days to kick in, but eating 2 a day, every day, prevents it in future. Chia seeds are very good, lentils are amazing for bowel health. Dates are also pretty good daily.

Magnesium, take 3 for a few days to get you moving then reduce dose but keep taking it daily.

ImikSiMik · 12/08/2024 17:56

Strong Americano or espresso, lots of water, bananas, figs and dates to get things moving.

Iloveanicegarden · 12/08/2024 17:56

Glycerine suppositories work a treat. They are cheap, effective and no unwanted side effects. Then when you are sorted include prunes/figs/all bran in your diet

Fullofpudding · 12/08/2024 18:00

Glycerine suppositories to clear the backlog and then a spoonful of lactulose a day until you're regular again.

itsmylife7 · 12/08/2024 18:05

chemist buy Lakido or similar PLAIN flavour.

If you're severely constipated try and avoid food.

loropianalover · 12/08/2024 18:09

I went to acupuncture on someone’s recommendation. I don’t know how or why it works. I hadn’t gone in 16 days, had tried every trick and been in hospital… 50 minute acupuncture session and I used the bathroom (easily/painless) when I got home.

I have a few kiwis a week now also which seems to keep things ticking.

Edenmum2 · 12/08/2024 18:11

Assuming you've tried prunes/prune juice?

Lactulose is very effective

Feelingstrange2 · 12/08/2024 18:11

Lots of walking.
Lots of water.

Some remedies but not all of them or you'll end up going the other way! I used natural ones like medjool dates as I love them!

And don't force it or you may get a fissure like I did which was painful and took a long time to heal.

Feel your pain tho! Been there on a few occasions.

In addition to what you are eating/drinking, the position you sit on the loo can have an huge affect. They sell squatty potty branded stools, but anything to lift your feet up on the loo will help- very large tins, bricks etc. It straightens the sphincter and makes it so much easier.
Are you still passing wind? If you are at the point though of having a bloated stomach and feeling sick, I'd be using a suppository or even an enema to get things moving from the bottom end.

Beetroot works for me - plus a pint of water on waking.

HaveSomeIntrospect · 12/08/2024 18:25

glycerine suppositories for immediate relief and no follow up symptoms. And a senakot every evening until normal
business resumes. Obviously increase your fibre and water intake to stop it happening again.

i was constipated post surgery recently so I was taking 20ml lactulose in the morning and again in the evening and senakot every evening, but I had been ‘bunged up’ for 6 days.

Bluebellsinthewind · 12/08/2024 18:53

Thanks so much everyone. Very very appreciated. Just been out and done a walk, now sipping water.

Going to have a look and see what I have in the house.

Can you buy suppositories from the chemist?

Micro lax if it gets too hard as well, which is like a mini enema you can get it OTC now

Bluebellsinthewind · 12/08/2024 19:54

@Nattalie18 thank you. Will see what the chemist has tomorrow.

I've just had wheatabix with banana. Now going to have some prunes.

Don’t overdo it with fibre now OP, wait until things have ‘passed’ to do that - it can actually make you more blocked up as you’re just adding to the mass at the minute

Bluebellsinthewind · 12/08/2024 21:11

@BrookGreen54 aww, noooo!

Maybe I should just stick to soup for the next few days?

Edenmum2 · 12/08/2024 21:14

Also when you do try and poo, put your legs up like a PP said but also keep your back straight at 45 degrees, it makes SUCH a difference.

Also try 'breathing down' through the body similar to what they teach for giving birth!

But mainly - lactulose 😂

Great, plenty of water required in this hot weather. Dehydration can cause constipation

rightoguvnor · 12/08/2024 21:27

A large string black coffee shortly after getting up.
Prunes (from the dried fruit aisle) and Greek yoghurt for breakfast.

You should get them in the chemist I order them on Amazon. You will go within five minutes !

Sherwil16 · 12/08/2024 21:46

I found a large smoothie really helped. It took a while to drink it, but, over a few hours I sipped a little every 10 mins. It worked after 4/ 5 hours. Strawberry and banana did the trick.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 12/08/2024 21:48

Use a blender. Chop up 2 apples, as close to the core as possible. Same with 2 pears, Big, big handful of kale. Liquidise it all with water and drink a glass every 20 minutes until it’s gone. You can add grapes or strawberries too if you want, any fruit really except bananas.
