Would you put suncream on a strangers back?

Just that!

I am doing an open water swim tomorrow. The forecast here is 32 and sunshine. I will do my best to suncream my back but the reality is I’ll be swimming for around 2 hours with my back exposed.

it’s a proper swimming venue, very friendly etc. Will it be completely weird to ask a stranger to out sun cream in me?! I would do it for someone else but don’t want to assume and look a complete idiot!

Or if anyone has any suggestions to get my whole back covered, I’d be grateful!

Thank you in advance.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/08/2024 18:12

I would, it's a proper venue so likely other swimmers who could help.
If it was a random bloke at the beach I'd hesitate but really it's not a big issue.

roses2 · 11/08/2024 18:13

Only if I was female and I would ask another female.

MamaAndTheSofa · 11/08/2024 18:13

Randomly on the beach, possibly not, but at an event we were both participating in, yes, I would, no problem. Don't know why I draw the distinction though!

Yozzer87 · 11/08/2024 18:13

No.

Comedycook · 11/08/2024 18:15

In the situation you're describing yes I would for another woman.

If you don't want this....why don't you buy a spray suncream and ask someone to just spray your back with it.

50shadedofmagnolia · 11/08/2024 18:16

Of course I would i can't see why people wouldn't 🤷‍♀️

MegaMeg2710 · 11/08/2024 18:18

I’d help a lone person yes, woman definitely but I’d see if my perv sense was kicking off first if it was a man.

recurringcovid · 11/08/2024 18:18

In a scenario like that yes, there will possibly other females at the event who would like the favour returned.

So sweaty bloke with a hairy back on the beach in Spain, absolutely not

dbeuowlxb173939 · 11/08/2024 18:20

In that situation yes but only a female, would feel uncomfortable is a male I didn't know asked!

Fedup369 · 11/08/2024 18:20

Yes (but if secretly hate it) but to increase your chances of a yes I'd get a spray that dosnt need rubbed in, no need for someone to touch you then, I would hate to touch someone I don't know, not because of germs but because it's a bit intimate and awkward IMO

Fastergo · 11/08/2024 18:20

I would if asked by a woman similar age to me, but for myself, I'd give everything a good covering before I left home. It's best to do it without clothes anyway.

Fedup369 · 11/08/2024 18:20

Or get a family member to do it before leaving the house

Yes I'd feel like this - really uncomfortable. That's my issue though and I'd want to help. I agree buy some of the spray stuff because asking someone to spray it on might be less awkward than getting someone to rub cream in. Could you not wear some kind of rash vest?

ObliviousCoalmine · 11/08/2024 18:26

In your situation, yes, I'd ask a woman.

Day to day/on the beach, no.

BetteDavisChin · 11/08/2024 18:26

I would rather not go than ask a stranger to put suncream on my back (unless everyone was doing it). But that's just my own unease in social situations talking.
Can you take a t-shirt that you can swim in - just in case there's no one there you would feel comfortable asking?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/08/2024 18:28

In that situation yes, no problem.

notapizzaeater · 11/08/2024 18:31

I'd ask and would happily do it but get that others might not,

Temu do a 'thing' to do this for future reference!

Would you put suncream on a strangers back?
StormingNorman · 11/08/2024 18:31

In that situation I imagine a lot of people will buddy up to help each other out.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 11/08/2024 18:32

I'd ask a stranger to use the aerosol one that doesn't need rubbing in, just spray it on. I buy the Aldi factor 50 one, it's great when I take my children's friends out with us as I can top them up without having to really touch them.

StamppotAndGravy · 11/08/2024 18:54

Open water swimming, definitely! Everyone does it. The majority are normally female and over 50 too, so fewer hangups

skippy67 · 11/08/2024 18:57

No.

FakingItEasy · 11/08/2024 18:59

Do you live with someone? If yes, why would you not just do it before you left the house?
