I’ve only just done it so still in a lot of pain but I’m struggling to get my head round not being mobile for the next 12 weeks.

DDs are home from uni and being really helpful but they will be going back next month (at which point I’m hoping to be in less pain) and perhaps that’s when the boredom will kick in, as well as Empty Nest.

Yes I have Netflix! And books. And lovely friends who say they will pop in. But I need to find a new hobby. So far people have suggested knitting and sewing but I’ve never done anything like that. Are there any armchair type exercises I could do (back in the day when DDs were little we had a Wii!).

Just looking for inspiration really!

Plot the downfall of everone who has ever upset/slighted you!
The school-gate mum who always looked down on you, the MIL for all the times she criticized you, the utilities company that won't let you fix your tariff.?..
May it pass quickly, muneventfull, and with much wine

Seated ballet / seated yoga - check out YouTube. Lots of options for people with limited mobility.
Also I've never done my achilles so sorry if this is a stupid question, but can you hands-and-knees crawl? As that can actually be really good for your body and brain.
I hope you find something you enjoy x

Buy a Switch which is the new Wii. It has the sports games and also try Fortnite! I’m 53 and loving it 😊 Learn another language?

LoudPlumDog · 11/08/2024 06:32

Duolingo is your friend to learn a new language.

SeaToSki · 11/08/2024 06:41

Have you seen the knee scooter things, they really help with maintaining mobility if your injury is below the knee

Octavia64 · 11/08/2024 06:43

Hire a wheelchair.

Or a rollator.

Then you can Move around.

Many places will have seated exercise classes although you may have to dig to find them.

charlieinthehaystack · 11/08/2024 06:45

learn a language
use your library online free magazines books etc
lots of crafts not just sewing knitting etc what about paint by numbers? diamond painting? even jigsaws
email pals?

vdbfamily · 11/08/2024 06:45

When I was incapacitated and non weight bearing for 4 months, I discovered Mumsnet, which really helped, and also got really into my family research/ ancestry. Got an Ancestry membership and got really obsessed with it. It was great fun.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 11/08/2024 06:54

@RupturedAchilles dont get a knee scooter!!!

RosesAndHellebores · 11/08/2024 06:58

What have you done?

Toooldtopretend · 11/08/2024 07:01

Try crochet. Just need yarn and a hook - much easier than knitting. There are really good online tutorials - Bella Coco is a good one and she does both left and right handed options.

Yes I am doing a lot of crawling to get from the top of the stairs to bed! Thank you for replying.

Great idea for a few weeks time when I’m in less pain. Thank you

Puzzle magazines? Teach yourself to do cryptic crosswords if you don't already know how?

Just clocked your user name Blush. Get well soon.

The doctors should be providing enough drugs that you are not in too much pain.

Do you have painkillers?

NeedANewOne25 · 11/08/2024 10:37

Hello OP, I’ve broken my ankle (second week in) so empathise with the inconvenience. If I find any good ideas I’ll post here. So far the Olympics and Netflix have helped. I already do Duolingo 😀

Rocknrollstar · 11/08/2024 11:28

Adult colouring books
Write your life story
Research your family tree
Painting by numbers

m00rfarm · 11/08/2024 11:35

I have taught myself how to paint watercolours - I am totally non artistic, but really enjoy it. I say taught - I read one page on how to prepare the paper, and then just went for it. Initially I googled images on the internet for watercolour paintings, and then just tried to copy them. I find birds are the easiest to do - either cartoon type or a sort of fuzzy type. The three cartoon ones were my first attempt and the others were a week or so later. It is really satisfying! I have stopped during the summer months, but looking forward to restarting later on this year. Honestly - give it a go! I need to get brave and start creating my own ideas and not copying those of other people - I will get there (eventually!).

And do ALL the physio stuff recommended by the doctors but do not push yourself more than they say as this can cause way more damage. Don't be a hero ...

I ruptured mine several years ago and had a cast for the first 2 weeks then I got a boot on -life changing as could walk normally and even drive as had an automatic car and it was my left leg.

Fingers crossed they give you a boot soon then you can be mobile.
