Cheeky wipes/reusable wipes

OlympicBlue · 10/08/2024 21:54

Going to be doing disposable nappies but want to use reusable wipes. Are cheeky the go to ones and how many do I need what kind of set up? Think will use water wipes out the house for ease.

The close ones are good - mine are still going strong for hands and faces and my oldest is 7…

MissyBright · 10/08/2024 22:06

I’m still using ours 6 years on. I got cotton (white) for nappies and bamboo (rainbow) for hands and faces when weaning. Helpful to have different colours for different purposes so you can easily sort them.

OlympicBlue · 10/08/2024 22:10

Thanks both, good idea about colours/white. How many would you recommend?

We have done well with two full kits with 25 in each (colours for hands/white for bums) and an extra 25 white bum wipes.

Also get the luxury/deluxe wipes - they are much nicer than the standard ones.

We bought one set of 25 white cotton wipes for bum initially and then after a few months ended up buying another 25. Also bought patterned bamboo ones for face/hands once we were weaning. All still in perfect condition after 3 years of use. Highly recommend.

I have one set of basic white ones and one set of the more 'luxury' ones and I couldn't really tell much difference (and they all ended up mixed up with each other anyway). Mine were bought 2020 so may have changed since then.

I never used them for the nappy years. I used them as reuasable loo roll for a while (only for wees) as I had bladder issues and I went through loads. They’re still going strong and I think I’ve had them 8 years. I now use some for cleaning and the others we use for drying our bits and pieces after a shower so we can use our towels for longer (a week, dried between uses).

Isthisrealomgwow · 10/08/2024 22:21

I got a full set from Vinted for £25, to see how we got on.

We love them, better than wipes for cleaning newborn bums.

shockeditellyou · 10/08/2024 22:24

We bought the bog standard cheeky wipes for our first child, who’s now at secondary. Wipes still going strong!

The coloured / dual fabric ones didn’t last as long though. Pretty much all of the original lot are like new after regular use.

Thanks, yes I tell everyone with a cold to wipe a wet wipe on their face, they sting like fuck so imagine that on a sore face/bum! Which material type did you get?

I realise this isn't totally helpful but how many you need will depend on how often you wash them. We use reusable nappies so we're washing at least every other day and the wipes go in with the nappies. We probably have about 35 bum wipes, though we do use them out and about as well. We use cheeky wipes cotton but I'm sure other brands are just as good.

In terms of the 'system', for clean wipes we wet 5 or 6 at a time, wring them out and store in a lidded box from cheeky wipes. For dirty wipes, because we use reusable nappies we don't bother with the cheeky wipes mucky box, we dry pail the used wipes with the nappies. Again, I think how often you're going to wash will influence how you handle dirty wipes.

If you did want to try using them out and about, the best solution we've found is to store 4 or 5 pre-wetted wipes in a little sistema clip lid box. For backup you can have a stash of dry ones and a bottle of water!

DC1 is 9 next month and ours are still going strong.

We have white terry, which we use as face wipes these days.

we also have rainbow microfibre ones, that took an age to break in, but still come out and about with us - they came to the rescue after a very drippy ice lolly yesterday!

I have a slightly bigger wet bag, that I fit two tots bits wipes bags in, one for wet and clean, one for wet and dirty, and have a couple of dry ones in between the wet bags.

I run them under the tap, do a couple of rounds with bar soap then wring them out so not dripping and put them in the wet and clean bag.

“Organic premium white cotton” are the ones we’ve got. For us (22/23 purchase) there is a noticeable difference between those and the normal white terry wipes.

Marmite27 · 10/08/2024 22:30

Forgot to say ours are all cheeky actual wipes, bags are other brands.

Porridgeislife · 10/08/2024 22:32

Also my daughter has really never had nappy rash. It took us nearly 2 years to use up a single tube of bum cream! The only time she’s had a sore bum was during hand foot & mouth. Reusable wipes just clean bums so much better.

Isthisrealomgwow · 10/08/2024 22:34

I just got the Terry towel ones. I will be looking at some more.

Although not looking forward to winter when I can't use the sun to bleach the newborn poo stains out!!

mitogoshi · 10/08/2024 22:35

Job lot of 24 cotton facecloths off eBay (new though) 2 x 12 pack. Still in use 25 years later as cleaning cloths. Bought 24 reusable nappies (prefolds with separate cover) used for both children then sold for more than I paid initially. As long as you have drying space indoors in the winter it's definitely the way to go (I wasn't a martyr, I sometimes used disposables on holidays).

Agree with this. My DS1 had intolerances and pooed a dozen times a day for months. When we finally got to see a paediatrician she was amazed that he didn't have any soreness as she expected him to have chronic nappy rash given his issues. I credit the reusables!

lochmaree · 10/08/2024 22:48

We started out with cheeky wipes but my MIL buys giant bags of cotton hotel face cloths and gave us loads, they are sooo much better than any of the reusable wipe specific ones. If you get white then you can be ruthless with them and bleach if needed.

OlympicBlue · 10/08/2024 23:04

That’s interesting @lochmaree which brands do you use? I’ve found flat old school nappies look like they’ll be better than muslins!

Bamboo Cheeky Wipes all the way. Mine have dwindled to around 4/5 out of an original 25. 18 years old, 2 kids & loads of visiting cousins!

I use them for hands these days

pitterypattery00 · 10/08/2024 23:57

Agree with PPs that they clean bums so much better than disposable wipes (the one time I tried to clean up a poo with disposable wipes still haunts me 😂). But one issue we found was that the cheeky wipes leave the bottom wetter than a disposable wipes. Interested to hear how others dried baby after using them? (We tended to use hairdryer at home which baby loved but I can't imagine that's what most people do!)
