Taking tea bags abroad

I've been online and it says that its ok to pack them in your case. We are going to Spain on Monday. Do other people do this? My Son has just made me paranoid cause he said Customs might think they are drugs, told him not to be ridiculous.

I always take my tea bags in my case. You can't get a decent cup of tea anywhere else IME. I worked in USA for a while and my family sent me tea bags and chocolate. Everything else was fine.

I like weak milky tea as well. But there’s weak Yorkshire tea and insipid dishwater which is Liptons 😂

unsync · 10/08/2024 23:09

I always take tea and porridge oats. One underseat holdall is dedicated to these two items. Lipton is not tea.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 10/08/2024 23:09

I used to be cabin crew many moons ago and I used to pack my own tea bags. Liptons English Breakfast tea doesn’t quite cut it 😳

Soakinguptherays · 10/08/2024 23:11

Always take Earl Grey teabags, decent ground coffee, collapsible filter, filter papers and a travel kettle, unless I’m sure there will be a kettle. Can’t start the day without Early Grey and reuse to drink instant coffee.

I drink a LOT of tea. There’s never enough tea in the hotel room and it’s never Yorkshire tea. I’m fussy. And I even pack my own mugs as the cups are never large enough. 🙈🤣

The supermarket in France where I am on holiday have Yorkshire tea, but it’s €€€, so I can’t imagine many Yorkshire folk buying it! I am a Twining’s EG person and take them everywhere. In desperation once I bought some in France but they aren’t the same!

TerfTalking · 11/08/2024 05:55

I’ve also taken Yorkshire Gold all over the world. It’s been fine, I even sought out customs after landing in Australia to tell them I’d got it, I’ve watched too many Nothing To Declare, she just smiled when I said it was tea. They weren’t interested in anyone on our flight from the UK.

Thank you the the reminder, I need to get a small box to take with me in a couple of weeks.

FWIW Twinings catering tea in hotels here and abroad is also crap.

edited to add - I never take them loose, an unopened box of 40 is what I take.

Exactly. Even if you can find your preferred brand of tea abroad, it's likely to be expensive and most committed tea drinkers will probably have a plentiful supply at home at all times so it's just easier to fill a sandwich bag with a week's worth to take with you.

Why wouldn't you? Tea bags weigh nothing, don't go off, and it saves having to search round for them when away.

But no-one's going to mistake them for drugs, or even if they do suspect it at first glance, the sniffer dog or that testing machine at security will confirm otherwise.

AlisonDonut · 11/08/2024 06:11

Here in the South of France, Yorkshire Tea Bags are a second currency. We brought 960 back with us at the weekend.

OneRealRosePlayer · 11/08/2024 06:56

I travel with tea but i always make sure i have them in the box. Then if im asked they can see the box and the ingredients

ManyATrueWord · 11/08/2024 08:05

Not only do I take Assam teabags I also take little sachets of milk from Lakeland. They are much nicer than those horrid little pots.

Enko · 11/08/2024 08:09

pizzaHeart · 10/08/2024 21:23

and the rest 51% do it as well but keep quiet just in case.

I always pack black tea bags and sometimes travel kettle as well.

Nope

Never have never will. I drink what is available and if I don't like the tea coffee local I drink something else.

I cant stand the so-called great teas like Yorkshire pg tetly anyway and dont drink them or even have them at home. So why would I bother to take them somewhere else?

ZoeyBartlett · 11/08/2024 08:38

Absolutely fine to take. I take a kettle and sometimes a teapot as well!

Justleaveitblankthen · 11/08/2024 08:50

CissOff · 10/08/2024 21:10

Always. Lipton tea is the work of the devil. I refuse to have a shoddy cup of tea whilst away.

It really is!
Whenever I'm abroad, the locals always proudly announce they have Liptons, as though I should be whooping for joy and that's what we all drink.
It's insanely expensive in the supermarkets too.

reallywhywouldyou · 11/08/2024 08:53

Always take Yorkshire tea, in fact my husband is just making me a cup at the moment ( I'm sitting by our villa pool ). We often travel under bag seat only, never had a problem at security. Also take our own airport sandwiches!Grin

LaraThot · 10/08/2024 21:31

How dare you! We're British!

Only joking, I have never taken teabags abroad ffs its only a week. Drink some orange juice or water or something!

But it's a holiday week, I want to enjoy my morning tea .

I'm all for eating like a local, will have olives for breakfast, but only after my tea!

deplorabelle · 11/08/2024 09:04

Overtheatlantic · 10/08/2024 22:48

I will never understand the obsession with tea. My old boss, in England, used to bring tea bags to work! And she was the office manager. Just buy what you want for the office ffs. But no she had to dig them out of a bag, and sniff, like the rest of us were feral. Of course I pop open my can of Diet Coke in reply.

Do you drink any old supermarket brand of cola that's available though? Or does it have to be diet coke? It's all the same fizzy brown phosphoric acid after all...

I thought I was doing well with a travel kettle, but your teapot wins😂

I’ve always taken tea and coffee, mainly because I’m tight and don’t want to spend my holiday spends on it…And I can’t STAND Nescafé!

Misthios · 11/08/2024 09:25

I would imagine Spanish customs officers are well-trained enough to distinguish between PG Tips and cannabis.

There’s a very funny episode of the inbetweeners where they try to buy cannabis and are given tea instead - reminds me of this 🤣

ineedtogwtoutbeforeitatoohot · 11/08/2024 10:05

Always

DancingFerret · 11/08/2024 10:25

A box of Yorkshire Gold is just about the first thing we pack for trips abroad and in the UK. Tetley seems to be the tea of choice in quite a few hotels and B&Bs in the UK, so I suppose many people like it, but it's just not for us - too weak and dull.

FetchAPail · 11/08/2024 10:39

@DancingFerret Tetley has a hideous perfume smell/taste. I didn't drink tea growing up as Tetley is horrible and that's all my family bought.

NancyJoan · 11/08/2024 10:43

I always do. And a mug. A teeny teacup of wishy-washy tea is never going to cut it. In all other things I embrace the food/culture of wherever we visit, but my two mugs of PG are what gets me going in the morning.
