Taking tea bags abroad

I've been online and it says that its ok to pack them in your case. We are going to Spain on Monday. Do other people do this? My Son has just made me paranoid cause he said Customs might think they are drugs, told him not to be ridiculous.

I take tea everywhere too unless I’m going somewhere like Cyprus or Australia where proper tea is easy to get.

In the US I’ve found the biggest problem is getting hold of boiling water to make tea.

soundsys · 10/08/2024 21:40

A totally normally thing to do as Lipton tea is horrible 😁

Have done this for years to all sorts of places and no one has ever suspected me of drug trafficking

Twoshoesnewshoes · 10/08/2024 21:44

Always
i also take coffee whitener (don’t like cows milk) in little bags which looks much more suspicious, but I’ve never been stopped.

Reallybadidea · 10/08/2024 21:44

My son is into all kinds of unusual teas and this year took a block of leaves vacuum packed in foil. I thought it looked pretty suspicious but there was no issue.

I take tea bags and those sachets of ready prepared coffee, cappuccino/ latte that you just add water to so I can have a hot drink when I wake up until I can find a shop to buy milk.
I also have a cuppa tea on the plane and they usually give you a couple of sachets of milk, I keep the spares.
I take sweeteners too.

Superpinkglasses · 10/08/2024 21:47

lol. I take tea bags, a mini travel kettle, we buy two souvenir mugs when we get there, I have a tea spoon, two plastic plates, DH takes his super pen knife, I have half a kitchen sponge, tiny bottle of washing up liquid and half a tea towel.
as soon as I wake I want a decent cuppa.

magicstar1 · 10/08/2024 21:48

One of my favourite things on holiday is Lipton tea. I usually end up bringing it home with me.

Cyclebabble · 10/08/2024 21:48

I travel a lot for business. I take tea bags (Yorkshire of course) everywhere. Only place I had any issues was Australia, which is very strict on food products. Even then they said it would have been fine if they were pre-packed. I had put 30 or so in a freezer bag.

I take peppermint tea bags, and also coffee bags, in separate plastic sandwich bags. Never had an issue.

Talkinpeace · 10/08/2024 21:53

I never travel to the USA with less than 4 teabags per person per day

the liptons shit they sell over there is vile

ErrolTheDragon · 10/08/2024 21:53

I usually bring coffee bags and sometimes mint or herbals to U.K. hotels. And this time mugs as well - it's a Novotel we've been to before so knew it has tiny teacups.
I should have brought some teabags, I've already used the paltry pair of EB and forgot to ask for more before I showered.

franke · 10/08/2024 21:54

I've even taken teabags to China.

You'll be fine.

Lifeinlists · 10/08/2024 21:55

I buy my tea and teabags there to bring back.
Much better than most UK brands.

I have taken all sorts of homemade stuff into Australia. It’s always declared and I’m always a bit apprehensive but they have never shown any interest in it.

Always. Lipton tea is the work of the devil. I refuse to have a shoddy cup of tea whilst away.

Absolutely this!!

SuchGreatFun · 10/08/2024 22:33

Always take tea bags and a good size mug.

LovelyDaaling · 10/08/2024 22:35

We've taken tea bags abroad for years. I hate teabags with string.

BiscuityBoyle · 10/08/2024 22:36

mitogoshi · 10/08/2024 21:30

For some reason people do take them, no idea why - every hotel I've stayed in overseas for the past few years has twinings in the restaurant or just drink coffee

Just drink coffee? Wars have been fought over less!

Greytulips · 10/08/2024 22:39

I can’t drink coffee.

I take teabags, it take them to English hotels as there are never enough. I sometimes grab a few extra milks in McD’s to take as well.

mondaytosunday · 10/08/2024 22:40

I went to a relatives rural part of Spain this year and they had Yorkshire tea and PG tips! Bovril too...

StripedPiggy · 10/08/2024 22:40

If I was ever challenged about the box of Yorkshire tea bags in my bag, I would inform the official that, as a British person, it is my patriotic duty to take adequate supplies of tea with me wherever so travel abroad do that I may educate the local people about our culture & beverages.

DirtyCheeseBurger · 10/08/2024 22:42

This has cheered me up no end.

Overtheatlantic · 10/08/2024 22:48

I will never understand the obsession with tea. My old boss, in England, used to bring tea bags to work! And she was the office manager. Just buy what you want for the office ffs. But no she had to dig them out of a bag, and sniff, like the rest of us were feral. Of course I pop open my can of Diet Coke in reply.

Ginkypig · 10/08/2024 22:57

I don’t think it’ll be a problem!

I don’t go abroad really but if I’m staying I a hotel il quite often take the coffee I like with me and if I was going abroad I might also!
