Thank you so much for giving your time and energy yesterday. You showed that racist thugs are totally outnumbered by normal decent people. You are heroes

Better safe than sorry. I live in Walthamstow and I am so proud of my community. A show of support isn't a bad thing anyway.
I love that the banners in Brighton said 'Don't hate...gyrate!'

It's so heartwarming. I too have been dreading checking the news.

Thank you to all the brave people who took their families out to this

Who 'guarded' the refugee centres

I proper welled up at the sight of the thousands In Walthamstow who turned out FlowersFlowersFlowers

And thanks to the police too for being amazing during all of this

I particularly loved the comment from a copper who said to the anti-fascists guarding a refugee centre 'you can all go home now, it's just you here' Flowers

Amazing!

Thank you to all the people that turned out.

Hopefully, the people that were scared to leave their homes for fear of attack over the last week will now feel safe in the knowledge that the far right will NEVER win

stronglatte · 08/08/2024 10:58

You made us all proud !! Well done ! Very proud to be British today xxx

stronglatte · 08/08/2024 10:59

And a special mention for Nans against Nazis !! Love it xx

thestudio · 08/08/2024 11:02

Thank you and how lovely.

I went to the biggest London one and I'm really pleased I did.

There was a real feeling of 'not in our community you don't' - but from a personal perspective,I think it was the fact that individual businesses/organisations and therefore individual people were being terrorised that meant I absolutely had to go. It really did feel like actual fascism.

Yes it true *@Gorgonemilezola *- you just put a link to the X post I had already posted and as I said no doubt in his mind and the mind of others it had the desired affect you seem to agree with that, but still GP surgeries were closed, hospital appointments were cancelled, shop and pubs were closed according to reports that I read all because of this 'hoax' what worries me and should worry you and @3WildOnes is that the reason why not many far right protesters turned up is because the real organisers of these groups knew full well they were not planning any protests in those 100 locations, but that does not mean they are not planning more in other locations and on other dates

alrightluv · 08/08/2024 12:00

@Oldsu they definitely will be. Such frightening times.
Hopefully communities will continue to stand in solidarity.

3WildOnes · 08/08/2024 12:02

They didn't turn up in large number because they don't have the numbers! They were vastly outnumbered so most went home. In some areas where there werent huge numbers of counter protesters they did still turn up. The 'organisers' of the riots can't keep these things on the down low as they need to spread the message to get as many people as possible to turn up. They rely on numbers so there is no way that they could have secret groups that have enough people to cause a riot but not be infiltrated. All of their telegram channels are being watched by anti racist groups now so it is very unlikely they would turn up somewhere and it be a surprise. I think you are overestimating their intelligence and planning skills.

So it was deliberate to turn gullible people into a hate mob on line when there was no need at all for the waste of police time etc
.
Do you not see that this was all part of the 'nudge' to get people to react in a certain way - many of those protesters against the 'fake' protests knew full well there would be no 'riots' so of course they turned out in great numbers.
Resulting in the PM and the government looking 'good' when it was all a deliberrate sham.

What has the integrity of this country become.

I would only thank the hoards of 'protestors' with their placards for stoppiong the 'riots' if it had been a real threat .
Shame on the liars.

No, your post stated 'I agree well done for turning out but it now seems that the list of 100 planned riots given to the HO were actually a hoax by Hope not Hates Nick Lowels' which isn't true, is it.

Nick Lowels appears to think the list was created and circulated by a far right agitator keen to stir up even more trouble.

3WildOnes · 08/08/2024 12:23

@ruby1957 what are you on about? Shame on who?

Everyone that I know who went to a counter protests went in the hope that if enough of them turned up the rioters would go home. Their second aim was to show support for refugees and to show that there are lots of descent non racist people.

You are right I have just done some digging I will try and get admin to delete my post as there is too much misinformation on posts about the riots from both sides

CheerfulBunny · 08/08/2024 15:35

Wow. I thought I was seeing things when I saw the news report last night. Truly a beautiful thing. Restores your faith in humanity and perhaps shows how society may be changing positively on a spiritual level (if you believe in such things as I do).

It's interesting to compare the number of posts on this thread to the sheer number of threads on posts yesterday about fear and hate - which proves negative bias is a thing, I suppose.

iwishihadaname · 08/08/2024 15:40

jennylamb1 · 08/08/2024 09:41

It was hugely stirring watching enormous numbers of ordinary people standing together in solidarity against hatred, racism and the attempts of a small minority to intimidate. Oswald Mosley and fascist black shirts tried the same in the 1920s and 1930s and it's good to see the population standing against it still a century later.

I was at Oxford anti racist protest. While I was there I found out some important oxford history. The battle of carfax when oxford run out the nazis out of Oxford in the 30s

jennylamb1 · 08/08/2024 15:49

Yes, it's interesting Iwishihadaname isn't it. I'm studying a socialist figure for my PhD and reading about anti-fascism- from the International Brigade members from Lancashire and Wales who fought in Spain to the battle of Cable Street. The vast majority of British people will not stand for oppression and yesterday was history in action again frankly.

Curlyhaired · 08/08/2024 15:49

Thank you so much. We were travelling back to our home town yesterday through London and as a mixed race couple with two children were anxious. This has restored our hope. ☮️

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 08/08/2024 15:56

Like other posters I feel better and relieved at the turn out for the counter protesters.
I do believe people are good and I'm thankful to see it in action.

PToosher · 08/08/2024 16:12

I was very pleased to see Labour councillor Ricky Jones speaking out in Walthamstow.

Cheers Oldsu. That all were so honest and sensible.

DuckonaBike · 08/08/2024 17:36

I was really cheered to see this too. It’s so good to be reminded that however awful the rioters are, they are just a small minority. I’m grateful to everyone who turned out.
