Apparently the only and right way to eat a meal is all your least favourite part, then neutral, then favourite last e.g peas, chips, fish. 😵
I think its normal to eat a bit of fish a few peas then a chip etc

Team DH. Get all the bad bits out of the way, make sure your last bite is the perfect one.

BarnacleBeasley · 07/08/2024 22:50

You're all right. You start by doing it your way, and as you get towards the end of the meal, you save the best bit to end on.

Absolutely team DH ! I've been doing this for years 😀.

Fairyliz · 07/08/2024 22:52

Team DH sorry!
Hope you haven’t told him you have started a thread; don’t want him to gloat.

Putting · 07/08/2024 22:52

Team DH here as well. Makes sense to get the less preferred food out of the way so it’s not hanging over you.

(The other alternative is to only make food you like!)

babybythesea · 07/08/2024 22:55

Team DH too - sorry! I might have the occasional bite of the nicer bits earlier on but the bulk of my favourite part is saved until the end.
The thing I save in its entirety until the end is my Yorkshire pudding. Especially if it’s home made. I save every last atom until the end and it’s sitting waiting for me like a little piece of heaven.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 07/08/2024 22:56

Eat the less tasty bits and save the good stuff until last was always my thing until I met the ex.
I'd save a bit of crackling or my last crispy roast potato to savour at the end and he would assume that I didn't want it so would snatch whatever it was.
Had to train him, a couple of well aimed stabs in the back of his hand from my fork soon sorted that out 😁

Devilsmommy · 07/08/2024 22:58

@itsgoingtobeabumpyride if my DH tried taking my roasters or crackling he'd be getting a lot worse than a hand stab with my fork🤣 OP it really is right to save the best for last

ItsAlrightDarling · 07/08/2024 22:59

Team DH here too!

MargaretThursday · 07/08/2024 22:59

Always dh.

MrsStottlemeyer · 07/08/2024 23:00

I eat a bit of everything, although as the main cook I don't tend to cook anything I don't like. Two DC eat like me.

DH and the other two DC eat 'first the worst'. For DH that stems from having to eat everything on his plate as a child or go straight to bed. My DC have never had to eat anything they don't want to but DC2 and DC3 definitely have an order of preference.

6ixThirty · 07/08/2024 23:00

I don't put things I don't like on my plate, so it makes no difference what order I eat things in.

DaisyFloop · 07/08/2024 23:00

Team dh

kfellover · 07/08/2024 23:02

Team DH, unless it’s potatoes or rice and then I leave it until last so I don’t get full too soon. I don’t think that even makes sense but I’ve been doing it for years.

Sunbird24 · 07/08/2024 23:02

Usually a bit of everything in turns, but always finishing with the best bit (though if there’s crackling that’s all saved to the end!)

Fellsbells · 07/08/2024 23:03

Team @PrincessHoneysuckle all the way. Everyone I know puts a bit of everything on their fork so you get all the flavours.

PoopedAndScooped · 07/08/2024 23:04

Life is to short to eat food you dont like

I don't put things I don't like on my plate, so it makes no difference what order I eat things in.

It’s not that I don’t like the things on my plate but I like some things more than others.
I like carrots, peas, cauliflower, broccoli and courgette. I might have them all with roast beef. There will also be spuds and a Yorkshire pudding. Of those things I eat carrot first. I like carrots but I like yorkshires more. It’s not to do with eating stuff you dislike - it’s to do with preference.

See also: a box of chocolates. Do you eat your favourites first or save them as the extra special treat at the end? If there are any chocolates I don’t like I don’t eat them (coconut…) but while I like caramels, I LOVE praline so save the praline ones until last.

All my food stuffs are equal but some are more equal than others!

CherriesBerriesAndBananas · 07/08/2024 23:06

You don’t want to eat say, your steak, and then have to go back to carrots. Yuck.

You can, however, have a little taste of the steak to keep you going with the carrots. To spur you on.

Next question though - ketchup all over your food or on the side to dunk? I am a dunker

LlamaNoDrama · 07/08/2024 23:07

Team dh. Very annoying if you get full though!

Crispynoodle · 07/08/2024 23:09

💯 team DH the roast potatoes are always last to eat on a Sunday dinner

Putting · 07/08/2024 23:09

On the side. Always.

Nesbi · 07/08/2024 23:12

Team PrincessHoneysuckle - it think it would feel a bit weird to me to compartmentalise my food and treat each thing separately, rather than treating it as a one single thing.
