Do dehumidifiers work well to dry clothes?

Recently moved house and delighted to now have a utility room with a pulley (as well as outdoor drying space).

However, our glorious west of Scotland climate means that clothes take aaaages to dry when the weather isn't perfect (rare) or the heating isn't on (also rare, because parsimonious).

Please don't suggest tumble dryers, I don't like them and don't want one (don't have the room for one anyway).

Have been looking at dehumidifiers, specifically those with laundry modes: do they make a significant difference?

We love our Meaco, it was a gret purchase last winter and we use it everyday

Hello! Thought I'd update this thread following our first full winter in the new house.

The dehumidifier was, as PPs promised, a GAMECHANGER and simplified life considerably.

Highly recommended, although very pleased that we're now in line-drying season.

Thanks to all!

Yes it works great. I put it with the racks in the enclosed space of my foyer.

You'll want to close off the room so you're not dehumidying the whole neighbourhood!

Yes I have a Meeco and it’s a godsend in the winter . When hanging clothes though don’t hang them too close together as the air needs to circulate.

Using a basic table fan to move the air around your wet washing also makes a huge difference. If you combine it with your dehumidifier it will speed up drying even more.

Add an electric fan, it solves that problem!
