If you love healthy food where do you buy quick lunches?

I'm on mounjaro - I've spent my life hating veggies and craving fatty, fast food. I'm often caught out and need to buy lunch out and have spent my life picking up a McDonald's or KFC.
Since the medication I can't stand the thought.

I was in London yesterday and it was swamped with quick easy interesting salads. I live in a small town, I can't seem to find anything I want to eat.

Where do you buy your quick healthy lunches?

most meal deals (Boots, Sainsbury’s etc) will have sushi, salads, fruit bags, boiled eggs, carrot sticks, protein drinks.

Limejellytoast · 04/08/2024 14:48

i am a ‘healthy’ person but if I am out and about- I will grab a KFC or McDonald’s!

you just need to reframe your thinking around what you have to get. Doesn’t need to be a meal. Doesn’t need to be large.

i just grab the wrap of the day with a coffee. It’s usually under 500 calories which is fine for a lunch. Breaded chicken, salad, wrap. Chips aren’t needed. Nor is a big drink or a shake.

KFC do a twister which is the same thing.

If I’m going to have a pizza or something for dinner and I want to eat lighter- I’ll grab some hot chicken from
the supermarket counter or some sashimi.

I always take it that eating outside the house won't be very healthy. The so called healthy things from supermarkets are very bland indeed.
The best thing to do is make something.
A quick and easy lunch that I like is beetroot and lentil salad. You can buy pouches of grains/lentils already cooked. Just add cooked lentils to chopped packaged beetroot, chopped spring onions, lemon and choice of oil. That's lovely with feta, smoked salmon, ham hock (you can get that shredded in packets) and then some bagged salad greens.

LadyKenya · 04/08/2024 15:03

I would just make something at home, and take it with me. I have all sorts of containers to enable me to do so. I also have a large opening flask, that I fill up with pasta etc.

minipie · 04/08/2024 15:08

M&S has a good pre made salad range
if there is one in your town. I like the Super Nutty one.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 04/08/2024 15:09

I don't buy healthy lunches, I make them. Anything quick and bought is likely to unhealthier, but the lesser of the evils would be sushi or salad without a horrendously oily or mayonnaise based dressing.

Peonies12 · 04/08/2024 15:12

I’d generally always make something; so much cheaper and you know exactly what’s in it. Look at BBC good food website for salad ideas.

Malahide · 04/08/2024 15:14

I live in a small city, usually in this situation I’d go to M&S or one of our local delis - they do some beautiful sandwiches/salads.

KFC/McDonald’s wouldn’t even cross my mind to be honest. It’s an absolute last resort for me - the food doesn’t feel real or satisfying nor does it fill you up.

MissyB1 · 04/08/2024 15:15

I would almost certainly go to M&S and grab an egg or prawn salad, or something with grains. I rarely eat a bought lunch in town though, too expensive and I could do better at home.

Thanks so much everyone, I suspect this was the answer (to make my own) I just couldn't find the imagination to know what to put in it but I'll try this.

I used to buy supermarket pasta salads etc but find now that they're loaded with sauce and I just can't take the taste of them now.

The M&S pesto pasta salad is lovely - I’m not a big sauce/dressing fan either so it’s one of their few things that caters to my taste 🙈

Pret and Leon. Pret for a salad, Leon for a cooked lunch.

Neither in my town - it's why I was so impressed with how easy it was in London Smile

I usually buy a small pack of leaves, plus a pack of poached salmon or chicken bits and then empty the salmon into the bag of greens
I might supplement it with a pack of cherry tomatoes or a cucumber, taking the leftovers home. I don't like prepacked salads or pre cut veg in those tiny packs, I remember reading bout the processing ingredients they use but don't have to put on the label so never buy pre cut. I would also buy a pack of berries, and a kefir, maybe a single bread roll to have with it all.

Ah gosh yes, they are the big city options. London is easy. Sorry I missed the point a bit. Lying in bed with covid not understanding much.

Onlyjams · 04/08/2024 15:53

The salmon and potato one 😋

bryceQ · 04/08/2024 15:56

Pret
Leon
Itsu
Tossed
M&A (but not the pasta salad the super green one)

If you have a poor selection locally I think you need to try and prepare at home otherwise it's not going to be feisble . Or just have something unhealthy as a one off and balance the day.

Allnewtometoo · 04/08/2024 15:57

Sainsbury do a really nice chicken and pepper Poke bowl in their meal desl.

M&S have some nice options too.

BaronessBomburst · 04/08/2024 15:59

We make our own lunches but keep a few things like this in the cupboard for emergencies, which can be grabbed along with some fruit.
If I'm out unexpectedly and need lunch I'll just get an apple and some raw almonds to tide me over. I don't know if any of this fits with Maunjaro.

If you love healthy food where do you buy quick lunches?
Droolylabradors · 04/08/2024 16:06

On occasions I'm totally stuck such as travelling a long way without taking lunch with me, I stop at a big supermarket and have

Bag of sugar Snap peas, a couple of boiled eggs and some pre cooked meat.

Mini Fage yoghurt (but I don't eat the sweet fruit at the bottom)/pot of kefir yoghurt and a tub of blueberries from the fruit aisle

Or I get sashimi or sushi if there is no sashimi.

I can't imagine a single occasion in the last 20yrs where I've thought that takeaway food was the best or only option for me.

Droolylabradors · 04/08/2024 16:06

Oh yes and a bag of nuts. Lidl do the best cashews, Aldi and tesco ones are grim.
