Question about the rioters

Just reading about the riots and how some rioters are in custody.

How does it work with those who are employed? Does their time away from work come out of annual leave, or is it unpaid leave?

Do some employers just sack them? Either for being in custody, or if they are simply known to have been rioting? Can employers even do that?

Just curious really.

I saw a lovely little thread on twitter where some scumbag was posting things about wanting to bomb Muslims and other such grossness and the twitter mob found his LinkedIn and sent his tweets to his employer. Hopefully the bastard gets sacked.

I agree. One should not make generalisations, but looking at footage it is possible some of them might be unemployed or in low paid jobs.

They do not all appear to be lawyers, hospital consultants, university professors or similar. I accept I may be making unfair judgements though.

I imagine some may perhaps be employed by people of a similar mindset. We had a couple of tradesmen in for a few hours recently. They did an excellent job but had the radio on and when there was a headline about people arriving on boats what I overheard from them was not pleasant. They had nearly finished the job, otherwise I would have told them to leave.

They are likely unemployed (probably unemployable), uneducated and very, very stupid and senseless. I do however think it's very unpleasant and really wrong to imply that "tradesmen" or people in more "menial" jobs are more likely to be rioters. It's about being a good, decent person/horrible scum, it's not about the job a person does. They may not be rioting but i'm sure some doctors and lawyers etc will agree with the "sentiment ' behind the riots

I'm always surprised at the number of young males who can seemly attend a protest on a weekday morning with little prior notice.

I do wonder if part of the issue is their lack of employment and opportunities- thinking that they have nothing to lose.
