It's winter you're sat in front of the fire with a picnic, what's on your list?

For me it's various meats, local cheeses, artisan crackers, sourdough, baked Camembert, chutney, pickles, crudités crisps and dip.

Is anything missing?

An Advanced Search would show the OP as having posting history.

In addition the language used is not that of AI and there's little traction in posting in 30 Days Only.

HearTheMessenger · 04/08/2024 01:06

No, I mean that indoor picnics are generated by AI.

echt · 04/08/2024 01:06

Oh.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 04/08/2024 02:09

I love French Onion Soup but it does not agree with me.

Mine would probably include some pork pie, a scotch egg and decent pickle.

Glitterandglue · 04/08/2024 02:19

Thanks OP, this gave me a lovely sudden memory of an indoor picnic during lockdown #47 when it was snowing really heavily. The kids decided to play Dare or Dare and ended up putting cream cheese on their noses. It was really fun.

My ex and I called it 'going on holiday'! We had a 1 bed flat but would make a bed from sofa cushions / duvets in the sitting room and watch a video / television.I think it normally involved a takeaway because him eating in our actual bed would drive me bonkers.

Aah! I thought you meant fire outside! But it's nearly winter where I am, only 3 degrees last night.

Reindeer burger
Crusty bap
Little sprinkling of crumbly blue cheese
Red onion jam

Pudding
We've got these biscuits here that are a round shape, but taste exactly like cow biscuits from UK. I have no idea what they are called (or actually they true name for UK cow biscuits either!), butvthey have a picture of a moose on and are half dipped in chocolate.
Anyway

2 Chocolate moose biscuits with toasted marshmallow in between for a superior s'more.

Baileys coffee (coffee roasted in my Espegard coffee pot on the firepit)

Malted Milk biscuits?

I'm sorry, but a picnic is egg mayonnaise sandwiches and ham salad sandwiches wrapped in foil, a packet of crisps each, tiny cartons of Ribena or orange juice, a thermos of hot stewed brown with one plastic cup to share, and maybe a Club biscuit. Eaten outside, with the wind whipping your hair into your mouth, and the dampness from the apparently dry bench/grass seeping inexorably through your trousers towards your bum. It's not my fault — those are the rules.

WildFlowerBees · 04/08/2024 05:14

Carpet picnics are definitely not AI, they've been around for years. Dh and I love them when we're feeling too lazy to cook.

I never have room for pudding so I'm going to have to put less on the board to make space for a crumble and custard!

Even better when it's chucking it down with rain and you're inside, fire crackling, wintery scented candles lit, nowhere to go and no work the next day.

Cheese, cheese and cheese with bread and crackers. Salami, pate, salmon paste, cornicons, some sweet jellies, grapes, stuffed peppers. Omg I'm salivating!!

I might need to start a thread asking for help getting baked Camembert right. I’ve never mastered it.

LifeInTheRaw · 04/08/2024 05:55

I remember my early married days back in the seventies, when I was striving as a new (naive) wife to make married life fun, even if money was tight.
So I made a carpet picnic for when then husband arrived home from work... I finished earlier, so gave me time to put the effort in.
Don't think it was winter tho', coz I made two plates of salad.
I "designed" the ingredients of the salad so that it looked like a multi coloured sunflower....
Trouble was, the plate looked so beautiful before eating, that I asked him to eat the "flower" in a way so as not to make the pattern "wonky"....
I've never done it since (my efforts weren't appreciated at the time) but years later, long after he became my ex, this post is inspiring me to do another carpet picnic, but Autumn rather than winter.
Long live indoor picnics, they can be a bit uncomfortable when you're as old as me, but it'd be fun to at least start on the floor, then if cramp hasn't set in, we could then crawl to the sofa !
I think my food of choice would be various Asian or Chinese dishes to pick from.
Oooo, it's making my tum rumble in anticipation.

JLT24 · 04/08/2024 07:14

I’d add a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a few different blue cheeses, aioli, olives and pate.

I’m so looking forward to this after pregnancy!

FloofPaws · 04/08/2024 08:09

Yummy! Literally going to say the same thing !!

Wine
Pate
Chili jam
Melba toast
More wine 🥳
... oh and Ryan Reynolds

WildFlowerBees · 04/08/2024 09:03

Sounds absolutely lovely @LifeInTheRaw time to do another!

Chili jam isn't one I've tried so I'll put that on the list.

Mini filled Yorkshire would be nice too, so many choices.

This is idiotic.

@WildFlowerBees this is a really sweet and lovely thread. Would it possible to convince you to have it moved to chat so it doesn’t disappear in 30 days? 🥺

Thewheelsonthebusgoroundandround · 04/08/2024 09:44

Glass of ice cold champagne.
Baked camembert with caramelised red onions on the side.
Freshly baked crusty sourdough and butter.
Ricotta stuffed bell peppers
Huge juicy olives.
Really vinegary salt and vinegar crisps.
Nigella’s homemade melt in the middle chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream.

mondaytosunday · 04/08/2024 10:17

I'd want it hot if winter, and not sure about the picnic aspect. So hot sausages, would be in that list for sure.

Woollypullover · 04/08/2024 10:21

Picnics are eaten outdoors.
You're just asking what to have for tea.
Not a picnic.

I don't see why not, didn't think it would be popular talking about Autumn/winter in August. I was waiting for the 'it's still summer ffs' lot 😃

What about homemade warm sausage rolls?
