Just been announced he is to appear in court tomorrow.

OP posts:
MalteserGeezee · 01/08/2024 12:33

Reporting restrictions lifted, he has been named

HansHolbein · 01/08/2024 12:33

Very glad to see it’s been named.

Bjorkdidit · 01/08/2024 12:35

He's 18 next week according to the BBC website.

BiscuityBoyle · 01/08/2024 12:36

And there we go. Not the name that was bandied around on Twitter.

CantDealwithChristmas · 01/08/2024 12:36

Mainoo72 · 01/08/2024 12:30

Everyone in the area knows who he is. He was expelled from school for carrying a knife.

Jeez I'm not in the area and even I know who he is. It's available online.

The Times gave further identifying details this morning.

There were 2 names on twitter, the fake one and the real one
He was named on there yesterday

Normallynumb · 01/08/2024 12:45

I think they were bound to name him after his appearance, especially as he is on the cusp of 18

That’s because the name circulating so quickly was not even a name, it was completely made up.

Someone linked to the DM apparently they applied

‘But after a successful application to the judge by the Mail, Rudakubana's name can now be reported.’

Although he’s 18 in less than a week anyway

And it was made up to make him sound ‘Muslim’ and to get the EDL arseholes out their rioting.

PassingStranger · 01/08/2024 12:51

What was behind this does anyone know?

bombastix · 01/08/2024 12:52

I hope his plea is guilty. It would save agony and possibly further violence.

Behind naming him? He's 18 very soon and also, everyone already knew.

I want him to get proper full justice and no danger of mistrail.

bombastix · 01/08/2024 12:57

I don’t fancy his chances in detention; I expect he’s going to be isolated.

Maybe not on twitter but his real name was certainly widely available on TikTok...

It's been everywhere since yesterday morning.

I hope, now that he's named, all of that will close down. Justice has got to be done for the victims.

Marseillaise · 01/08/2024 13:09

Please don't post messages that assume guilt or give potentially prejudicial background information. If you prejudice a fair trial there will be no way of achieving a satisfactory conclusion through the justice system, and it would be a dreadful thing to do to the parents of the deceased and injured children.

rainbowbee · 01/08/2024 13:23

Sky news have just named him.

There's something doing the rounds but it's not worth losing my mumsnet membership for and, more importantly, DEFINITELY not worth prejudicing the trial for.

Due process done transparently is what we all need.

Do remember that information ‘doing the rounds’ can be planted by people wanting to create tension or push ideals.

I also want to know why, whether or not we get any answers remains to be seen. I imagine the parents of the dead children will also want to know the same.

He may say nothing and we'll have to wait for the trial.

I find your use of "we" here odd. Haven't RTFT so maybe this isn't a unique thought, but unless you're personally involved, how are "you"'owed answers. It's bizarre.

This is obviously a terrible case, but people are murdered every day here and in nations all over the world... do you feel owed answers about their deaths too?

Comicalanatomical · 01/08/2024 18:36

Ponkpinkpink15 · 01/08/2024 01:22

I want to know what he had to say for himself. I want to know WHY & why there?

It won't make the 3 girls any less dead or the others uninjured or untraumatised..

Well you’re not going to know that today if ever. It’s a plea hearing not the trial. We are unlikely to ever know the why.

Sorry I said 'we', I meant the public are not likely to know anything about the guy before trial, maybe not even after.

I think that is right, he is only seventeen and if his details are given out it sets a precedent for other young offenders to be exposed, maybe even younger than him, who have committed lesser crimes.

None of us would be better off for knowing his name. He'd just become a hate figure and a source of documentaries and interviews with experts. We have enough of that already (in my opinion), and it fosters unhealthy interest.

I can't help wondering what motivates a person to do something like that. However, I'm not a psychologist or criminologist, they are the people who have to delve and it must be very difficult not to say harrowing. I doubt I'd be able to sleep if I did that.
