That looks more like an insect bite.

To be clear - did you just see a bat high up in a tree and panic, or did it actually fly down and bite you?

If you were awake you would know.

Thatsnotmynose · 31/07/2024 07:12

Half term?

If you genuinely think you have been then go and get a rabies shot.

BoobyDazzler · 31/07/2024 07:12

Bats don’t attack people.

EBearhug · 31/07/2024 07:14

Bats are very unlikely to bite you unless you handle them. It would have been more interested in catching insects than a human. Insects, OTOH, have been biting freely, so I would suspect it's that.

Cadela · 31/07/2024 07:15

Well I’m sure you’d notice if a bat flew down and bit you. It looks more like a mosquito bite.

Bats only tend to bite when handled, I’ve never heard of a bat flying to a person to bite them.

But if you’re convinced go get yourself a rabies shot. You’ll need to have 3 over 28 days and if the gp thinks you don’t need one you’ll have to pay. It’s around £200 for all three I think.

birdsoeking · 31/07/2024 07:16

Are you sure that’s not a freckle.

CheeseWisely · 31/07/2024 07:21

You would know if a bat flew down and bit you, there'd be no doubt in it. Also, bats don't fly around biting humans outside of vampire novels.

longdistanceclaraclara · 31/07/2024 07:26

You know if it was the bat. 🦇 it's an insect bite:

LoftyBrickExpert · 31/07/2024 07:28

Are you sure it was Dracula?

2.5m long? Really? What country are you in?

StuffandFluff · 31/07/2024 07:34

I was bitten by a bat - needed to have a rabies jab because of it. Time is of the essence and you are better to take a precautionary approach.

You really didn't see a bat 2.5 m long! A bat is unlikely to have bitten you. That's an insect bite.

TeenToTwenties · 31/07/2024 07:50

According to Google the largest bats, flying foxes, have wingspan of up to 2m.

OP. Your original post reads just like my DD speaks who suffers from anxiety. She goes in an instant from 'this could have happened' to 'what if it did' and lands on 'I think this occurred'.

I really don't think you were bitten by a bat, but if you have anxious/intrusive thoughts often, please seek help.

Blinky21 · 31/07/2024 07:57

Do you run everytime you see a bat in the sky?!

vodkaredbullgirl · 31/07/2024 08:08

Hope the sun doesn't affect you this morning.

And in the extremely unlikely event it was a Flying Fox or another species of large bat then they're vegetarian so even less likely to be biting humans.

Unless you resemble a piece of fruit?

RubberyChicken · 31/07/2024 10:46

Was it wearing a black cape?

EBearhug · 31/07/2024 10:57

If you're in the UK, a bat is more likely to be 2.5cm long, though their wingspan are longer. Not metres long, though. If it were an escaped flying fox from a local zoo, I'm sure you'd have heard about it. I believe their diet is mostly fruit, though.

It's possible you saw an owl, perhaps? But their wingspan are not that big. And wouldn't bite/peck you.

I think it was a pterodactyl if it was that size.

Everyone I know I who's been bitten by one has started hallucinations within 24 hours...

How many people do you know who've been bitten by pterodactyls?

EBearhug · 31/07/2024 12:54

Still unlikely if UK...

You mean the hallucinations started 24 hours BEFORE they were bitten by a pterodactyl surely?
