I met Billy Bragg at a CND demo in the 80s before he turned into a mysogynistic twat (or when he was hiding it better).

Noel Fielding apparently at a hotel in Stoke pre Bake Off - I didn't know who he was.
Gary Glitter hanging out of his dressing room window sympathising with us bunch of 12 year olds who couldn't afford the quid to get into his concert in 1972. He then mentioned us in an interview with Disco 45 magazine. We really thought we were the bees knees🤣🤣🤣🤮🤮🤮

Oh dear🤭

Maddy70 · 31/07/2024 00:10

Lots as my family and friends ate in TV and music. They are just normal people. It's generally quite hideous being famous absolutely no privacy. In a constant gold fish bowl.

LouLouVonSchnickleburger · 31/07/2024 00:19

I quite often see Suggs and Barry McGuigan and have said hello in passing
Janet Street Porter is a force to be reckoned with but I actually quite like her 🤣
Faye Ripley is lovely

Not exactly - Mel B (actually might have been Mel C) lived a couple of streets away from me growing up but I don't remember seeing her around.

I once saw James Sutton (Hollyoaks) in my city centre having a break between filming. I was going to approach him but he looked up at me and smiled and I left 😂

SinnerBoy · 31/07/2024 03:06

Crikey, I met Gary Glitter in 1990, near Carnaby Street, a bunch of us went down for a (not his) gig. One lad went, "Fuck me! It's Gary Glitter, no, it really is!"

We all got photos with him and he offered to buy one girl's platform boots. He autographed a tenner for me, which I ended up spending the same weekend.

Like Fizzadora - now bleurghhhh.

useitorlose · 31/07/2024 03:11

Colin Firth and his wife - I taught their eldest son.

Littlepinkstarsbyradish · 31/07/2024 03:14

One of the best moments of my life
I was a little tipsy and had a massive "round" to order at the bar. When i got there i was trying to remember it, but i saw a woman that i recognised and assumed was part of the group. When she looked at me i barked "wait, wait, wait - i'll get these drinks in and then you can add on the end, be patient!"
I gave my order then turned to her and said "right what do you want?" But then i realised....
"Oh my god, you're Barbara Windsor!"
She cackled that lovely cackle laugh and i got her a small wine, we ended up having a lovely chat and she was every bit as delightful as you'd expect

What is “met”?
Queued up at a book signing?
Sheepishly asked for a selfie at a restaurant?
Spent an evening chatting?
Brought over their life soda?

These are all very different types of “met”.

That's what I wanted to ask.

So - Charles and Diana at their first and second trips to Australia (Charles made a joke second time);

Ivan Hutchinson (film critic, TV presenter and music director - we had a chat in a music shop about what had become of the actual 84 Charing Cross Road shop);

Terry Pratchett at three book signings (had a bit of conversation there, too - I was in my Goth days and Carpe Jugulum was about to come out);

Phil Cleary (footballer and campaigner against MVAWG);

Brian Dawe (actor, writer, political satirist - we sat together by chance on the train going home when we lived in the same area, and had a few conversations that way).

Omlettes · 31/07/2024 03:45

Albert Finney Jack Thompson, Nick Cave, Minnie Driver and Geoffry Rush.
I shared a spliff with the last two in separate scenarios.

My dad was part of the guard when she was at the Melbourne Cup.

Cool!

Onestarlitnite · 06/10/2024 06:40

I met Princess Alexandra at an event and she asked about my sex life.
Met and worked out with Colin Jackson, Linford Christie, Sally Gunnell.

MadeleineMummy · 06/10/2024 13:17

For some strange reason while looking through old photo albums from my parents, I seemed to have lots of photos of my parents as well as my sister and I with Martin Landau and Barbara Bain over several years including for my 7th birthday. I did not know who they were, because they were not people I remembered, so asked my aunt who told me they were Hollywood actors from the “Mission Impossible” TV series. She could not remember why my parents knew them.

Cosycover · 06/10/2024 13:30

I met 3 members of Girls Aloud in a club toilet. Probably 2004/5 I think.

cassiefromlondon · 06/10/2024 13:34

I use to be a podium dancer so I've met a lot of famous DJs and MCs I've worked in some clubs in London used by A list celebrities. I didn't really talk to any because I was working but was only meters from them

MadeleineMummy · 06/10/2024 13:39

I met Martin Freeman at an event and he was an arse and full of himself.

Also met Paul Sinha at a dinner party with his lovely partner and he was funny, erudite and really polite. He was literally the life and soul of the party and kept the table amused and was empathic, listened to people and very down to earth. I have a lot of time for him.

Also met Lewis Hamilton, OK enough but he acted like a bit of a chav and dressed inappropriately for the surroundings.

penguinbiscuits · 06/10/2024 13:39

A few. I was on the Raya app before I met my husband. Met a few famous people through there.
Crazy to think I almost got together with one really famous DJ. But I couldn't leave my job to go and live with him in LA for a bit, so we parted.

Some stories I think I'll be thinking about in my rocking chair at a nursery home. I'm nearing 40 and very happy and settled with my husband and child.

OverthinkingOlive · 06/10/2024 13:46

Never met but saw Prince Harry coming out of Westminster Abbey surrounded by his bodyguards. Jumped straight into a car and was blue lighted away. Before he met MM.

I saw some celebs on TV once.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 06/10/2024 13:56

I met Marty Feldman in a hotel bar in Brighton,
Well, I didn't really meet him, but I think he was staring at me - but you could never be quite sure with him!

Have you met any celebrities?
boulevardofbrokendreamss · 06/10/2024 14:00

A few but Brian May, Anita Dobson and Norman cook were my faves

GirlOfThe70s · 06/10/2024 14:06

Ant & Dec, Michael Barrymore, Richard & Judy, Ardal O'Hanlan, Paul McCartney, Sting, Letitia Dean, Julian Clary, Martin Kemp, that's just off the top of my head at the moment.

BobbyBiscuits · 06/10/2024 14:07

Johnny Borell from Razorlight was an utter tosser. The rest of the band were really nice.

Chris Evans just blanked me. But I mean I was just working on a reception for his party so I didn't exactly expect a hug. I also went on his show TFI in the audience but didn't meet him then. David Mitchell was working in the cloakroom though?!
Obviously I didn't know who he was then as it was the 90s.

I met Amy Winehouse's scummy boyfriend before. He was awful.

I know a few people who've met Pete Doherty but I thankfully haven't had the pleasure.

I met Brian May once and gave him my friends demo tape.

I met glamour model Jodie Marsh when I tried to chat up her boyfriend. Lol

I met Supergrass when I went to their house party and disgraced myself.

I think there's a couple more but I forget...
