Has anyone been on this for anxiety type problems? Any luck with it? TIA

My partner did and unfortunately it wasn’t good. He seemed worse, and it made him so drowsy he could barely get up in the morning. When he came off it I said it felt like I had ‘him’ back. Neither of us would touch it again.

SquashPenguin · 23/07/2024 13:03

I tried it about 12 years ago for a few months and absolutely piled on the weight. It sent my appetite through the roof so I stopped taking it.

SossijRoll · 23/07/2024 13:38

I’m on it and the weight gain is awful. It works really well for anxiety and helping me sleep but I’m wondering if to change or come off it to try and lose weight.

Weight gain & feeling sedated. Duloxetine much better for me.

thursdaymurderclub · 23/07/2024 17:07

horrific stuff.... i'm most definitely allergic to the stuff! hot flushes.. and anxious.. and kept me awake all night

Madisnttheword · 23/07/2024 17:12

I'm on it now about 6 years. I love it. Has really helped and helped my sleep too. No weight gain

blackcherryconserve · 23/07/2024 17:27

I've been on it for two years. Definitely put paid to my panic attacks and overwhelming anxiety. Until very recently I'd agree with pp that it helped my sleep. My depression though is another matter.

blackheartsgirl · 23/07/2024 17:43

Awful for me, made me feel drowsy and slow and my temper went through the roof on it, I was demonic.

my friend swears by it but her weight exploded whilst she was taking it

Frosty1000 · 23/07/2024 18:01

I'm on it for anxiety and insomnia from peri menopause as I can't take hrt.

It's saved my life and no issues whatsoever, yes I'm a bit tubby but menopause does that as well. My anxiety disappeared overnight and no set backs either since.

Personally I wouldn't take an SSRI but that's a long story so I'm glad this one is available and is helping.

PavingStoneWeeding · 23/07/2024 18:44

Thanks all, this is very helpful.

At the moment, the weight gain would be a positive for me, as anxiety is making it so hard to eat.

@Frosty1000 I also don't want an SSRI for various reasons. Hence looking into this....

I take it and sleep properly for the first time in 20 years. Highly recommended. It does cause sugar cravings but I'm very active and a healthy weight

flowertoday · 23/07/2024 18:51

It is very sedating and causes weight gain. I wouldn't take it again. I think there are better options. But that said everyone is different.

PavingStoneWeeding · 24/07/2024 13:19

If anyone's still around... how soon did you feel effects when you started it? TIA

I agree but I'm still taking it as it worked to alleviate panic attacks and anxiety. No help with depression though.

OP I felt the effects pretty quickly firstly with my sleep pattern which improved and I now sleep a full 8 hours, sometimes more.

PavingStoneWeeding · 24/07/2024 17:37

Thanks @blackcherryconserve . That's encouraging. Did your GP prescribe it, and did you suggest it or did they?

My GP prescribed it due to increased frequency of panic attacks and ongoing anxiety. I have put on weight though and still need help to alleviate depression as I stopped taking Citalopram after being on it for a number of years and finding it ineffective now. Mental ill health is a PITA but I have a very proactive GP thankfully. Wishing you well x

IncessantNameChanger · 24/07/2024 17:48

I took it. I only take the odd tablet now and then now if I want to stop waking up early full of panic. I think it does make you tired and acts like a sedative. I took one for a funeral last week to numb off a bit. I think it's great.

MsLavender · 24/07/2024 17:52

Did nothing for me other than make me gain a fuck load of weight and made me lose a ridiculous amount of hair. Needless to say I came off it pretty quickly before I ended up looking like Matt Lucas which wouldn't have done much for my anxiety.

Sisterdeloris · 24/07/2024 17:55

Low dose supposed to help sleep, 15mg i think. Double that ore more for anxiety and it loses its sedative qualities. Can also give you restless legs and bung you up.

Bluevelvetsofa · 24/07/2024 18:12

Sleep improved straight away, but I had vivid dreams and felt zombie like. Weight gain was dreadful and took ages to lose. Every other antidepressant made me feel so ill though, that I couldn’t take them.

Killerpinkflamingo · 24/07/2024 18:46

Absolute lifesaver for me! I had such bad insomnia that I was going days without sleep, I was completely exhausted and my life was honestly falling apart. I resisted Mirtazapine because of the weight gain side effect, but eventually things got so bad I didn’t really have a choice but to take them.

Honestly, I wish I had taken it earlier! Straight away I slept, and within a week I felt SO much better. I have been taking it for 7 years now and my life has improved 100% in that time. I sleep, I feel energised in the day, I feel motivated, I feel hopeful… all alien feelings to me before!

I did put on weight and that has upset me at times - but the way it has literally turned my life around makes it worth it. Little miracle worker pills they are for me.

PavingStoneWeeding · 24/07/2024 19:23

Really helpful - thank you all so much.

Agree word for word with @Killerpinkflamingo

I’m at the point where I am considering tapering off but I’m also a bit worried as it has been a wonder drug for me.

claireymrsd · 24/07/2024 19:31

I have and really rate it, have been on it for several years now.
It did increase my appetite at first but that side effect didn't last long.
I was a bit 'foggy' at first in the mornings but that disappeared too after a couple of weeks.

BBCK · 24/07/2024 19:32

Been on it for several years. Really helped my sleep pattern although I still
don't have perfect sleep. I work full time and cope with some broken sleep, am happy and slim at 58
