Ninja Air Fryer Yay or Nay?

I’m thinking of getting a Ninja air fryer. Are they any good? I read a few articles about them potentially having a cancer risk but there seems to be little to no evidence to support this? I just want it for chicken , fish , veggies etc, are they good? Do you prefer them over oven cooked meat?

Presumably because of the coating of the air fryer drawer that food comes into direct contact with? I love my Ninja air fryer but do have concerns about this, although haven’t done any research so this concern may be unjustified.

No different from using a non- stick oven tray in a regular oven, surely?

I often use a silicon liner, anyway.

I thought toxic chemicals were no longer used on non stick coatings ?

I would have thought the real cancer risk came from the actual food you were cooking and ingesting.

I don't have a Ninja air fryer (was £50), but my god I love it anyway. I only use my oven for pizza.

Definitely yay! I love Ninja products, I own three of them and use them everyday, I never use my cooker anymore!

I have had mine for about a year. It is handy but I am not a total convert. What exactly do people cook in them? I think it is suitable for beige food. Chips from scratch cook much better in a big oven.

Yes agree, good for salmon fillets though

I roast a chicken in mine. Also chips, roast potatoes, salmon, pizza, garlic bread, bacon, eggs, pasta and sauce with meatballs, chicken goujons, burgers, baked potatoes. Loads of stuff.

Use it most days. I have the 2 drawer version, the flexi drawer wasn't available when I bought mine. If I need to get another one I would get the flexi drawer. I don't have a dish washer so just wash it in the sink, much easier than cleaning a big oven.

I just bought one this week, I'm a total convert! I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy one before, bit would have saved me so much time. Only thing that has been disappointing this week is I tried to make sweet potato fries with fresh sweet potatoes and looked up some random instructions online and they were not quite cooked and a bit floppy, so any hints on that one gratefully received!

You have just missed Amazon prime 2 sales days - several Ninjas reduced a lot but they were still expensive. Next sales will be December I expect.

Black Friday. Also keep an eye on QVC. They often have deals and a TSV.

Yes to an air fryer, no to a ninja. I ordered one directly from them; it arrived used and smelling of rancid chip fat Envy

GameOfJones · 21/07/2024 08:36

Definte yay from me. We have the Ninja dual version and it is excellent. We pretty much only use the oven for pizzas, big things like lasagna and at Christmas (and even then the air fryer is good for side dishes.)

Things cook quicker, it uses less electricity and meat stays really juicy.

The best things I use it for are:

Roast chicken. It can cook a medium whole chicken in an hour (30 mins upside down, then flip it over for final 30 mins.)

Mediterranean veg (peppers, onions, courgettes and cherry tomatoes) roasted in 15 mins.

I fill both drawers with baking potatoes and in 50 minutes have jacket potatoes to use throughout the week.

It is excellent at reheating food without it going soggy or burned.

It's just a mini oven, so whatever you cook in an oven, you can cook in an air fryer. Except, obviously, pizza - although I'm sure someone will come up with a method!

I did shepherd's pie last night, and when we have a roast, the meat and potatoes are amazing. I've never ever mastered crackling in a conventional oven, but it was perfect in the airfryer, with moist meat, not the usual slightly dry offering previously.

I've got two Ninja air fryers - the dual drawer and the one where you can divide the big drawer into two. It's handy when my vegetarian son comes to visit, as we can keep his food separate.

We've just had a new kitchen, and seriously debated having a conventional oven at all, as we didn't miss it all during the 10 months we didn't have a kitchen.

And I disagree re chips from scratch 😉

Yah

Chernobog · 21/07/2024 10:58

Don't be daft - cancer risk

Possibly if you burn EVERYTHING

Roast pork is to die for, the best crackling too. Sausages, jacket spuds, chicken. In fact the only thing I don't do is bacon and eggs
