Do you call it a bag of crisps or a packet of crisps

I call it a packet. To me, a bag is something that you put things in to carry around.

Crisps come in a packet, all ready to eat and nicely sealed, ready for you to open.

It doesn't matter but I'm bored and was just wondering how many people call it a bag or a packet.

Bag of crisps.
Poke of chips

protectoroftherealm · 16/07/2024 14:23

Bag!

On another note, I know so many people who don't say the 'P' in 'crisps' and so make this crisssss sound and it absolutely makes my teeth itch.

GasPanic · 16/07/2024 14:26

Bag where I am from.

Probably largely because it is shorter than packet.

Wilsonwasmorethanaball · 16/07/2024 16:10

If I asked for a packet of crisps my family would die of laughter and pretend to talk with a posh accent. We say bag, innit.

Gowlett · 16/07/2024 16:12

Either. Mostly packet. DH says package?!!

midyearcrisis · 16/07/2024 16:15

Its obviously a poke of crisps, duh!

Melroses · 16/07/2024 16:15

I remember my DD having this problem with the computerised spelling "lessons" at school.

It wanted "? of crisps"
She was marked wrong by the computer and came home seething. 😤

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/07/2024 16:18

Probably bag but packet wouldn't sound wrong either.
Just asked DH and he says bag too.

You literally just said 'bag'

We do this too - so usually 'some crisps' !

Yes, you are right!

maudelovesharold · 16/07/2024 16:23

Have been known to use both bag and packet, but usually just crisps, without specifying the container i.e.’ pass me the crisps, please’ or ‘would you like some crisps?’

napody · 16/07/2024 16:24

Ineedanewsofa · 16/07/2024 12:39

Having never thought about this until now - I use both, but for different things! E.g I will say “pass me the bag of crisps” BUT I also say (far too frequently!) “put that bloody crisp packet in the bin!” No idea why…

I was just gonna weigh in with this!
Bag people: what's it called when empty?

Midlands here: use both but maybe packet has the edge...

ginslinger · 16/07/2024 16:24

packet
the important thing is - do we have to update the spreadsheets now?

DoYouSmokePaul · 16/07/2024 16:26

Packet or pack. Grew up in NE Scotland.

RaraRachael · 16/07/2024 16:28

Scottish - bag of crisps

pinacollateral · 16/07/2024 16:29

Pack o' crisp/ bag 'o crisp

(North West 😂)

protectoroftherealm · 16/07/2024 16:34

@napody an empty crisp bag!

LadyDanburysHat · 16/07/2024 16:36

I would say packet for the small ones, but bag for the share ones.

Packet. SE.

ImNotGivingAwayMyShot · 16/07/2024 16:43

I'm Scottish and say packet. I don't think I've ever noticed what others call it but I will now!

Davros · 16/07/2024 16:49

Bag. Lifelong Londoner

Benjilassi · 16/07/2024 17:23

Alwaystired2023 · 16/07/2024 12:36

Gosh I say both interchangeably

Same.

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/07/2024 17:37

I think I usually say packet. I'm form the SE. But I'm pretty sure I also say bag and wouldn't bat an eyelid if anyone said bag.

napody · 16/07/2024 17:41

protectoroftherealm · 16/07/2024 16:34

@napody an empty crisp bag!

One step too far for me! 😂
