Anyone else hate Sundays?

I don't know what it is but it always feels slightly depressing, I've felt this way since I was a child and I can't put my finger on why it makes me feel the way it does...it just does! I don't work on a Monday so it's not the dread of work the next day, anyone else?

Sunday has an empty feeling to it as the day progresses. Though a day of rest wherever possible is good. A time for reflection. Yet most of us are starting up again tomorrow with our jobs so there is anticipation too.

Yes you're right, Sunday morning is okay-ish

I’ve always hated them too. A real ‘nothing’ day.

I totally understand what you mean OP.
It's probably something to do with the anticipation of school when you're a kid and that feeling stays with you as a habit as you grow older.

Oh god yes, Sunday as a kid was awful, it didn't help that I hated my school at the time so you're probably right.

Yes! Sunday's absolutely dire. The morning starts off well and as the day goes on it feels a bit like there is no momentum and nothing to do. Although I have one great Sunday memory. When I first came to Ireland I was doing a training course for my job and one of my fellow students asked me what I did on Sundays. I didn't really know anybody and I felt slightly sad and actually shed a tear or two while telling him that I didn't reallly do anyting. Next class, he invited me to his house (literally with only friendly, kind intentions) and made me a homemade lunch - starter, main and dessert, and we had great conversation.

It’s called ‘Sunday feeling’ in my house. We’ve all felt it. Interestingly, it went away when I started working for myself, working my own hours. I sometimes work on Sundays if I choose to. So all the days are my own to work/enjoy at my own pace. (Lucky I know)

I therefore have concluded it related to negative memories of having to go to school/work on Monday mornings.

blackpinkinyourarea · 14/07/2024 18:49

Yes I loathe them and always have from when I was a child. It doesn't feel like a proper weekend day even though it obviously is! You aren't alone.

Wintersgirl · 14/07/2024 18:53

Ah I'm not alone then! The Sunday feeling is very real..

Same here, I’ve struggled with Sundays since I was a child. Saturdays are full of promise, and if I’m ever off work mid-week it feels fine, but there’s just something about Sundays. Could we have two Saturdays instead?

Yes, and Saturday has a feel good factor for me I love it..

Depends on whether you work or not.

Fontainebleau007 · 14/07/2024 19:25

Another one here that hates Sundays which stemmed from childhood. That dreadful sound of the heartbeat theme tune playing, knowing it's nearly bedtime and there's school tomorrow 🙈

I definitely try to do something enjoyable and make something to look forward too, even if it's going for a walk, get something nice for dinner or hop in the car with the family and take a drive along the beach.

Luckyclover9 · 14/07/2024 20:05

Me too! There’s a name for it - the Sunday Scaries!

Revelatio · 14/07/2024 20:11

Hated them as a child. Love them now as I work all week and have a young child. Now Sundays are for exploring, relaxing, eating out at a weird time so we don’t have to bother with both lunch and dinner, bbqs, splashing in the paddling pool, late afternoon cocktails - absolutely love Sundays now!!

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 14/07/2024 20:18

I understand that feeling of dread from school. But you don't work Monday's and it's not clear if you dislike your job.

My advice would be to take ownership over your Sunday's. How do you like to spend your time? What would make the day better for you? If you don't work Monday then really Saturday is an extended Saturday. Make the most of it!

Jobs fine, someone up thread said the feeling comes from school days, I think the feeling of dread from when you're a child never really goes, no biggie though, I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same
