I am glad Donald Trump was not associated but I think there are real questions about his behaviour after the shooting where he appeared to be alive to the optics of the attempted shooting and how to use them to his adavnatge.

Am I mistaken that Trump maybe slowed the security detail to fiat pump the air and mouth something to his supporters? Obviously I am not an expert on security service protocol in such an event but it did appear that Trump was dictating things a little and he wasn't covering under the security operatives which may have been expected when leaving the stage? Was Trump so determined to appear an alpha male fighter that he may have put himself in danger of a theoretical second shooter?

Any way it's a big PR win for Trump and maybe a step closer to the white house.....

The photograph of Trump face bloodied punching the air while surrounded by hunched security personnel is iconic, perhaps historically so. If a leader ever wanted an image portraying strength this was it.

There is something politically visceral of a nation's leader showing courage in face of danger and I really think this is a Trump win.

Its probably 50/50. Trump's reaction is the reason a lot of people are saying that this was a planned publicity stunt. Which will go against him. Especially as people died.
I'm not saying it was, I seriously doubt it actually, just that people tend to believe what they want to believe.

Apart from the fact it's ludicrous to suggest Trump's team would set up an assassination attempt resulting in 2 deaths and 1 serious casualty, why would they have to when he is leading in the polls by having to do absolutely nothing but sit back and watch Biden commit political suicide?

This won't go against him at all and if anything, will bolster his popularity

The thing with trump is, that it would not surprise me one bit if in the near future it is found for be one big publicity stunt for him. I believe he would stop at nothing to get what he wants.

MN is truly shocking. If someone stands for a role they think they are wrong for they say these crazy things about it being a stunt. The man was nearly killed. Would that satisfy you?

Shame on you. Biden is a walking nightmare. Others would have been better to stand against Trump but the left wing knew better. They have clearly covered up Biden and his capacity for the position. I am no real fan of Trump. But he stood up after an assassination attempt and this will not have done him any harm.

Given his reputation for being a bully, I thought he'd be visibly scared and shaken. Even normal, non bullying people would be after all.

However, the shooter was known by the people on the stage to have been shot dead by the time he stood up, raised his fist and instructed his followers to fight fight fight. They were very confident that the shooter was a sole agent and were probably very confident that the threat was over.

Those who are saying MN is terrible and how dare we speak ill of a man who got shot. A civilian has died. Meanwhile Trump supporters have made commemorative t-shirts of the event. Even BBC breakfast was showing photos of the deceased blurred out at 8.30am this morning.

His running mate has previously made comments about the UK being the first Islamist country to get nuclear weapons. Sadly, there are truths about extremists countries that worry people and Trump feeds those worries.

Right, so are you seriously suggesting that he risked having his brains blown out by staging an assassination, to lose the top of his ear and that some 20 year old kid volunteered to go along with it and be shot dead. I don't think it was staged, I believe it to be a real assassination attempt in which Trump was very fortunate to come out alive and a father sadly lost his life.

i dunno... there's just something just not sitting right with me? i all seemed a little too 'staged'. from the camera angles i've seen, he could have been shot in the head many times on his way from the stand to the car and the security guard holding his hand over his head? wtf is his hand going to do?

I think his reaction in the aftermath will absolutely have been fuelled by adrenaline and I don't think he can or should be criticised for that however abhorrent we find his political views.

Knowing, as we now do, that two people died and others were seriously injured, I think any political capitalisation of the incident should now be judged very harshly. People are grieving.
