Where do you put your clothes at bedtime

And how do you stop having a floordrobe?

Has any non-tidy/disorganised person happened on any top tips, easy habits to create that would help me from being overtaken by clothes that are in the 'wear again' pile in the corner of our bedroom?

Everytime I reorganise the drawers and wardrobes, they stay neat for a few days then the piles just build back up worse than ever.

DH is tidy, poor thing, but he's fighting a losing battle as I'm encroaching on his clothes territory,

I just do not and never have had a system. If you have, could you share pls?

Any easy tips welcome.

Everything goes in the washing basket. I cook two meals a day so I feel as though everything I'm wearing smells of cooking (it does, I'm not imagining things!). It's a lot of washing but on the plus side, my floor is always clear.

You need a chair, and to be ok with never sitting on it.

Yes, I have a chair and fold and pile up worn once.

swapcicles · 13/07/2024 22:14

Less clothes to start with and clothes to be worn again go on hooks on the back of a door, same with towels as they don't get washed each use.
If I leave clothes on the floor they'll be used by the cat as a bed so will end up in the wash anyway!

With this ridiculous weather we are having recently my chairdrobe is out of control! I wfh and one day I’m wearing lightweight trousers and top, the next I need joggers and hoody, then I might go out for lunch and wear something nice but only for an hour or two so that doesn’t need washing straight away…

XenoBitch · 13/07/2024 22:15

Side of the bath usually, or if I get undressed upstairs then they end up on my bedroom floor.

CabbageBearGoat · 13/07/2024 22:16

I'm another one with a set of "over the door hooks". It's right next to the laundry basket. For me, the trick is to get in the habit of clearing the hooks when I do laundry (which in this house is weekly). When you do laundry you're dressed for the day so clearly not wearing anything on the hooks. Remove everything from the hooks and either wash it or put it away. If you're a "washing on every day" sort of house then just pick a day of the week that you clear it. Hooks for clothes only. Done.

I'm heartened to read that I'm not the only one making use of the floor but I'm sure most of us would prefer not to!

I don't understand why it is a problem? If it mattered you wouldn't do it.

Yes! This is probably part of my problem - no real theme to the clothes at the moment.

Straight in the wash basket.

Alicewinn · 13/07/2024 22:17

In a basket

TheFloorDrobeHasGotMe · 13/07/2024 22:17

@bergamotorange

Hmmm:: I'm not sure my brain works like that, sadly!

I have a small ornamental chair that I put them on. If it’s something that will get creased, I sometimes put it on its coat hanger hanging on the outside of the wardrobe door. But it’s my chair I use normally and have done since I was a young child.

Yes but why does it matter?

You say you are 57, you've lived this way for this long and no harm has come to you!

Tbry24 · 13/07/2024 22:20

Never on the floor or I’d not be able to wear it until I had washed it.

really dirty clothes and underwear straight in the laundry basket. Clothes to wear again, not usually the next day as I like them to air a bit, folder up really neatly in a wicker open basket on top of my chest of drawers. It’s usually leggings and tops I can wear again to do the cleaning and other things get washed. I did used to have a small drawer to put clothes to rewear but I’ve run out of space. Oh and hoodies and cardigans are always worn a few times hung on hooks on the back of my bedroom door. my pyjamas get worn a few times so go in drawer next to my bed with my book etc.

I like everything organised and in place…unlike my DP!

FangsForTheMemory · 13/07/2024 22:20

I have hooks in the bedroom and bathroom specifically for clothes I'm going to wear a second time.

CandidHedgehog · 13/07/2024 22:22

I have a clothes chair. Anything I’m going to wear again goes on there. I’m pretty sure it has literally never been sat on. Clothes to be washed go in the laundry basket.

TimeWheel · 13/07/2024 22:22

Laundry basket, or if I'll wear it again, I fold or hang and put in the wardrobe.

DancinOnTheCeiling · 13/07/2024 22:24

Thanks @PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich

Lovesgotme · 13/07/2024 22:25

Do what I did!

I put up a row of coat pegs at chest level. Anything I intend to wear again I hang sloppily on a peg so it gets a bit of an airing. (Mine are on the wall at right-angles to the window, which is always slightly open.) I also hang my nightie on there after I get up in the morning.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 13/07/2024 22:25

In the wash basket or on a hook on the back of the door if its still clean enough to wear again
Occasionally on the back of the chair

If I'm wearing something different the following day, I put it away properly when I'm getting my new clothes out for the day.

TheGodOfSmallPotatoes · 13/07/2024 22:25

I’m surprised at these answers, 90% of my clothes need to be washed after wearing!

Anything that could be worn again gets hung up or folded away before bed. I do have diagnosed OCD though 🤔

AnnieMcFanny · 13/07/2024 22:27

Straight into the laundry basket if it’s dirty, hung on a coat hanger and aired in my bathroom for a couple of days before being spot cleaned and pressed and put back im the wardrobe if being worn again. Very little is actually worn twice though.

Debs2024 · 13/07/2024 22:27

It’s an ongoing problem We have so many clothes it does not matter what is in wash not good. Wash what has been worn no piles chances are it doors need washing if not sportswear worn once or jumpers Get rid of clothes not worn often

Normallynumb · 13/07/2024 22:29

Tops on a hanger on wardrobe door
Jeans folded on top of chest of drawers
Underwear in basket
I do have a chair but dog uses it to jump
on the bed!

savethatkitty · 13/07/2024 22:30

Knickers, dirty clothes basket for obvious reasons. A dress I've only worn that day - hang it back up in closet. Exercise clothes, if I've been sweaty etc, dirty clothes basket. Just depends what I've worn, for how long. But typically, I hang things back in my closet as soon as I've taken it off
