After persevering for years with different models of Dyson that I was never impressed with, I bought a 'shark' and have been very impressed with the suction and performance.

Filters easy to clean too.

Same. Went through loads of dysons and they were all rubbish after the initial week of good suction. Plus I wouldn't give Dyson any more of my money after he sold us down the river on brexit.

My shark is amazing and has been for several years.

Couldn't live without my Henry which is now going strong even though I once set fire to it (woodburner ash removal incident - unwise). Made in the UK and very repairable - you can get all the spare parts and accessories very cheaply - although I've only had to replace the hose and filter (due to hot ash scorching) in 20 years. It will suck up anything you can think of even rubble and stay completely clean inside thanks to the excellent hepa filters. Get an extra long hose for a few quid off Amazon and you can do an entire small room without ever moving it.

They are very cost effective so you can get a cordless vac for lighter work too. And they've got faces!

Oldhippyflower · 13/07/2024 17:33

Shark for sure, we had a Dyson but very disappointed in it, however I do feel a corded one is a better bet for consistent suction

itsmylife7 · 13/07/2024 17:36

Henry or Hettie or Charles depending on what colour you like.

Amazing for hair as it sucks anything up and doesn't get clogged up.

SingingSands · 13/07/2024 17:45

Bought a Henry 17 years ago and it's still going strong, I love it. Was brilliant when we had the upstairs of our house renovated - sucked up all the plaster rubble with ease. The filtered bags are brilliant and so easy to deal with. Honestly think I'll have my Henry for the rest of my life as absolutely no reason to change!

Nannyfannybanny · 13/07/2024 17:48

I have 2 long hair dogs, used to be 3,,plus lo Ng hair cats and kids. I have had 3 Dyson, now had a shark pet corded 5 years. I love it. My youngest son who is disabled plus OCD bought the upright model recently and loves it.

Sprig1 · 13/07/2024 17:50

I second this. Brilliant vacuum.

Sonolanona · 13/07/2024 18:01

I recently bought a Henry Quick.. cordlless rechargeable (but has bags..I hate cleaning filters) The suction is amazing!

It replaces my Miele (RIP) and my Shark liftaway (great until it literally went bang) as I have arthritis now and wanted something light and portable. Very happy so far! I have a double coated dog and a cat and so far it's doing a great job.

BruceWillissDribble · 13/07/2024 18:17

This is what MH should be all about. Get yourself a Shark corded and all your dreams will come true.

Keirisannoyinganddisingenuous · 13/07/2024 18:25

Interesting thread. Henry fans - what do you have to do with the bags? Do you empty and re-use (no idea sorry - having been bagless for years)?
Shark fans - are they really good re- hair (my Dyson just gets hair wrapped around brush and gradually becomes worse at picking up)?

YouBelongWithMe · 13/07/2024 18:26

Can't see beyond Miele. Indestructible and powerful.

JanefromLondon1 · 13/07/2024 18:28

Sebo Felix. Fab German engineering and excellent for allergy sufferers.

Helloworld56 · 13/07/2024 18:30

Henry for sure. The suction is amazing and there are lots of accessories. We use it in the house, and to valet the car. You can't do that with an upright.

Flossflower · 13/07/2024 18:30

We had a Sebo (2nd one) for about 12 years. The first one lasted about the same time. It broke recently and we did a bit of research. My husband said he didn’t want to get a Dyson as he doesn’t like James Dyson. In the end we got another Sebo. However it is very heavy and is only used by my husband. We also have a cordless shark - the one that folds in half and I love it. So my husband does the vacuuming for the weekly clean with the Sebo and I use the small shark in between.

Edited

You change the bag when you feel the suction is weakening, but the bags last months. Watch a YouTube video on how to change them.

Henry hoovers are for tradesmen.

Hair always gets trapped round the rollers of others, i think its unavoidable.

Flossflower · 13/07/2024 18:31

Sorry upright Sebo X7

OfDragonsDeep · 13/07/2024 18:31

Eufy, I haven’t hoovered in a year, love it!

OpalSpirit · 13/07/2024 18:36

Had a shark which I got less and less pleased with, hair wrapped and easy to clog.
Bought a Miele which wouldn’t work day two and have swapped for a Dyson animal so we shall see how that plays.
May well go back to Henry.
