So if he has cognitive decline, what happens to him a few years into his office? What happens to him in four years? If its being brushed off now, what then?

LunaNorth · 12/07/2024 08:32

The USA is a failing state at this point, isn’t it?

kiterunning · 12/07/2024 08:42

So Starmer had a meeting with him that lasted an hour and didn't notice anything?
Righty ho.

If Biden said he was going to supervise your toddler alone for a day would you let him? Or Trump?

This is so true. No I wouldn't.

It's interesting watching the end of a power in real time

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 12/07/2024 08:48

What's bizarre about the American system is that there seems to be no way to force a candidate out.

Here - once the election was called it wouldn't really have been possible to replace Sunak/Starmer, but that's a 6 week period. Before then, the parties can force it. But in the US you've got months where it seems no one can actually do anything.

ZenNudist · 12/07/2024 08:51

I'd vote for a bin lid over that orange faced rapey felon. Americans need their head read if they put Trump in charge. I'm pretty sure Trump would go for a third term!

Also it's "senile". Which Biden is not, he just mixes words. I do it and I'm not old or thick. Mind you, the debate performance was bad.

I have that where I totally forget what I'm supposed to be saying. I say "3 things: firstly.... secondly.... " then I forget thirdly so I waffle and repeat firstly or secondly.

Democrats should find someone else though. He's toast because Americans be stupid.

separatedornot · 12/07/2024 08:51

That's because the candidate is voted for in the primaries.

The American system is very different to our system.

Edited

Then you shouldn't be president, either.

He has been seen by Parkinson Disease experts and I wonder if he knows where he is and what he is doing, as it looks like someone, somewhere, is pulling strings for an outcome we are not privy to. Can you imagine this scenario in any other walk of life, anywhere!!!!

Righty ho.

I think that no sensible foreign leader would openly criticise the mental competence of another, whatever the countries involved are (unless they're at war and they're criticising, say, Putin). I'd bet that none of the leaders who were there for the NATO summit and who spent time with Biden will come out and say he's incompetent.

I understand that. I just think it's odd to have a system where it's a case of "once you've been picked, you can pretty much do whatever you like and the party cannot remove you as their chosen candidate."

Well I'm not but I do advise on multi million pound transactions.

I don't think he should be the candidate either but I'm saying Trump is much worse.

It is rather like the Devine Right of Kings - don't go slagging off another ruler or killing them, or that makes it open season on you too!

Happyinarcon · 12/07/2024 08:58

If the democrats wanted to run someone else they would. They haven’t. They could quite easily claim to have found porn on his laptop or something and remove him but they haven’t. It’s understood nowadays that presidents have very little power to do anything anyway so technically forest gump could be president and no one would be able to tell the difference

Starmer might well have noticed something wrong but he absolutely has to be diplomatic. Whoever the US president is the UK prime minister has to try to get on with them and shouldn't openly criticise them as it isn't in the UK's interests to do that.

Obviously Starmer can disagree with policy or decisions but to openly state that Biden is losing it and Trump is an arsehole would be an error even if that's what he probably thinks.

FFSWherearemyglasses · 12/07/2024 09:11

Waiting here for Statesmom to come along and tell us all how wonderful “Amurica“ is …”people” 🙄🤣

Tracker1234 · 12/07/2024 09:12

Hold on. Those who are saying he deosnt really have any power? Really? I remember when Bush was told the US was under attack when he was visiting a school - what would Biden have said? Poor Zelensky. Being called Putin is the ultimate insult.

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 12/07/2024 09:13

That the party of Harry Truman, JFK and LBJ has come to this.

It makes you want to weep.

Tracker1234 · 12/07/2024 09:15

I was in the US recently. The view is that Biden really really feels that he is the ONLY one who can win. He brushes off any critisism. Its rather like a Viking who must die with a sword in their hands.

Collexifon · 12/07/2024 09:16

Well, if I had stood up and mistakenly introduced Zelensky as Putin, I would have cringed myself inside out and probably retreated from society and gone to live in the woods somewhere.

Amazing that people just carry on as normal after that.

Tracker1234 · 12/07/2024 09:17

He will excuse his gaffes. That is what illness does to you. That and denial. Shame on his family to allow this to go on. This is what he will be remembered for.

BeyondMyWits · 12/07/2024 09:24

I cringed watching him on the news. Not for the first time. He is, unfortunately, an embarrassment to his office. He is not fit to lead. (neither is Trump)

Of course not! It would be a major diplomatic incident and a slur on the USA.

What are you on about who's Amanda Harris ? You do know there is a whole administration that runs America Biden is just the "front man" yes he is an elderly man with possible cognitive issues but he isnt going to try and set the world alight !

Still important for the top dog to not have major issues though isn't it. Also important to not call Zelensky the name of the dictator who is destroying his country. It's beyond a gaff and should never have happened.
