She's been complaining about pain between her ankle and down a bit towards under foot. It's the strangest location, doesn't hurt evry day.
Doc appt 2 weeks time.

Any ideas??

Under ankle and towards back of heel.

Look up Severs disease. Could it be thst? My nephew had it and it caused heel pain. Once he stopped growing, he didn't get pain anymore but he did get some inserts for his shoes and some exercises from the physio to help.

Disguise her heel under ankle foot?? Is that just a jumble of words?

Yes sorry it was supposed to say "DIAGNOSE" BUT my phone changed it.

@BACA thank you so much.

Could be severs? My son suffered with this and was on crutches on several occasions. He does seem to have grown out of it now.

StarieNight · 08/07/2024 22:33

@BACA that sounds spot on and she's 11 nearly 12.
It also mentions a vit d lack of!

@ConsuelaHammock well I'd never heard of it till now!

It's been on and off over a while, she's really limping today. Is there anything they can do for it?
Can she get notes for pe etc! She does martial arts and dance.

I had never heard of it either. No treatment as such but he did need crutches when it was really painful. He had to give up rugby training for several months to rest it. We got him inserts for his school shoes and asics trainers. The following year he had it in his other foot but it didn’t last as long.

ConsuelaHammock · 08/07/2024 22:40

My son was excused from
games when it flared up. Ask for an X-ray as that’s the only way to diagnose it properly. She will be ok but it will take time.

Noseybookworm · 08/07/2024 23:13

My son had ankle/heel pain and it was achilles tendonitis. He played a lot of football, physio said it's a common sports injury. He saw a physio and had exercises to do and wore arch supports in his shoes/trainers. Took a few months to clear up completely.

StarieNight · 09/07/2024 08:44

@Noseybookworm did they mention this severs to you?

Or do blood tests re vitamin d?

She's really hobbling today and we have doc calling, I'm not sure what they can do or suggest.

@ConsuelaHammock did they mention vitamin d deficiency? On NHS this is mentioned

If she does martial arts and dance, is it not possible that she has strained / torn something?

It might be worth going to a sports physiotherapist.

Dahliasrule · 09/07/2024 09:25

Plantar fasciitis can cause heel pain spreading under the foot.

StarieNight · 09/07/2024 09:25

It's in such an unusual place it doesn't seem to me to be near any obvious muscle but I'm obviously not knowledgeable.

StarieNight · 09/07/2024 09:55

I wonder how they can diagnose this and esp on such a strange area? Our doc is notorious for not proactively investigating

OP posts:
Foxxo · 09/07/2024 09:58

I've sprained my ankle a fair amount, the once i sprained it and that area hurt like hell randomly.. i described it like the underside of my ankle locked up.

My daughter has the same issue post twist/sprain

If she's ever twisted/sprained or injured it, she may be having the same issue.

Afraid to say the only thing that fixed it for me, was re-spraining it, and it healed better that time :/

Foxxo · 09/07/2024 09:59

no muscle there btw, there are ligaments and tendons that can get tears.

fairlygoodmother · 09/07/2024 10:05

My son also had severs, it often occurs in children who do sports because of pressure on the growth plate. Physio really helped very quickly.

StarieNight · 09/07/2024 10:46

@fairlygoodmother do you know the procedure are we expecting the doc to prescribe physio and severs first or book a physio?
No one in my family has ever had physio.

No they didn't do a blood test or mention severs which I've never heard of 😳 the GP initially thought it was plantar fasciitits but the physio knew it was achilles tendonitis straight away.

Foxxo · 09/07/2024 11:11

i have plantar fasciitis, that's more under the foot, back of the arch/start of the heel/inside of the foot rather than outside.. and its VERY noticeable when you massage the arch, you can feel the sore spots, and its constant.

I also have achilles tendonitis, and thats the back of the foot, the big tendon down the back.

Yes, my foot is a mess... 10+ sprains, ankle arthritis, every tendon is a mess.. welcome to being disabled, lol.. it's all knock on from being hyper mobile and having a permanent limp that messes the whole ankle/foot up relating to a bad back, sciatica, hip pain...etc.

StarieNight · 09/07/2024 11:17

@Foxxo oh dear... Good point re hyper mobile, dc 1 is extremely hyper mobile! I don't think dc 2 is however..

Phone call only with me, no eyes on dd

Doc said perennial tendinitis and try topical gel
