I started feeling poorly Friday evening. Feel horrendous at the moment. What are people’s experiences of this latest strain - how many days of feeling shit should I anticipate?

Thanks everyone for your experiences and I hope everyone feels better soon!

I assumed it was a cold but realised I had a temperature this afternoon so thought I’d better test and it was an instant positive.

worst symptoms are joint pain which I think I had with it last time, but that was years ago so can’t really recall. I do recall fatigue and terrible weakness last time - I was ok sitting down but if I stood up my legs went from under me like bambi!

I hope you’re lucky but I think it’s a bit of a bastard. I had really bad body pain and temperature was raging for days. It’s horrible. Flowers

I started symptoms on Thursday, but as I am in Sarcoidosis flare up, I attributed it to that. Friday I had to leave work early as my headache was so bad, I was seriously worried about the long commute (over a mountain)
Saturday was fever, last night it was so bad I thought I had wet the bed, then started vomiting.
Tested positive this morning.

I hope everyone feels better soon, this is such a shotty virus

Are people still doing lateral flow tests or just assuming Covid based on the symptoms? I didn't test but had what could have been it this week. Started feeling rough on Monday, absolutely horrendous on Tuesday, fever, aches and pains, stabbing sore throat and fatigue. Mostly back to normal now.

My GP told me that even with a negative LFT, I had likely had Covid. I was really unwell for 5 days and it took about a month for me to be back to normal.

RainBow725 · 07/07/2024 22:18

5 weeks feeling really rubbish, including two secondary infections. About 3 months to be functioning normally but still got bad sinuses and vertigo months/years after previous infections. It's not fun...

Peclet · 07/07/2024 22:23

it was a creeper, felt crappy on Wednesday then Thursday felt terrible with swollen glands and sore muscles and joints. Same on Friday. Slept loads thur/fri and was so so hungry. I made double cheeseburgers on Friday! (I’m usually plant based/intermittent fasting) Saturday started to feel better. Today. Normal.

DH - felt worse earlier and for longer and still not quite right today. Joint pain and blocked nose.

Slightly different symptoms but both pretty floored for at least 48 hours.

house is a tip. Kids are surviving on freezer meals and toast!

Penguinsa · 07/07/2024 22:24

Didn't test but lost taste and smell. Roughly week and half for me and pretty mild which is good as in vulnerable category.

ReformMyArse · 07/07/2024 22:27

The headache and sinus pains have really got me with this strain. Also fevers and sweats and total loss of smell. Had some tests at home and was positive immediately. DC and DH also had it but a lot milder. I think I’ll need the week off work, feel so damn tired. This is my 5th covid and the worst by far, the first (pre vaccine) was so mild.

BeyondMyWits · 07/07/2024 22:28

Dh has had it 9 days and is just coming out of it. Temperature, fatigue, bloody irritating cough, (i know, i know .... he cant help it and i have been taking loving care of him)... hungry til a couple of days ago, now no appetite but cough and temperature gone.
Still fatigued, but that is improving. Feel so sorry for him as he is never ill.

BIWI · 07/07/2024 22:29

I started with symptoms on Friday. (Two weeks ago now). Felt OK-ish to go to the gym with my PT on Saturday, but had a rubbish work-out, such that we finished early. Generally felt like I had a cold until Wednesday when I decided to do a test. Not really sure why, as it really felt just like a cold - so was surprised when it was positive.

Main symptom other than general malaise was a really runny nose. By following Friday/Saturday I felt fine and symptoms mostly gone.

I'm up-to-date on vaccinations, and mid-60s.

Headachy Friday, had to go back to bed yesterday. Tested this morning - positive. DP has just had it, he was basically asleep for three days but is now up and looking after me. Most of it so far is exhaustion, joint pain, no appetite. I have to be at work tomorrow ( wfh) don’t know what I’m going to do.

3-4 days feeling really poorly in bed.
Another week of head cold / cough and feeling worn out.

Same here

Pudmyboy · 07/07/2024 22:40

I was ill last week, horrible cough and high temperature (night sweats), now feel incredibly weak, fatigued by the simplest thing like putting a load of washing on! And I mean fatigued: have to sit down before I fall down!
Didn't do a Covid test as the spare I had was past expiry date, but I have lost my sense of smell which I understand can be a sign it was Covid.
The exhaustion is the worst part for me.

outdamnedspots · 07/07/2024 23:35

Dd (20): symptoms for 10 days. Never bed-bound but symptoms included aches, sore throat, headaches, nausea, bloating, exhaustion, loss of smell...

My out of date tests worked, lit up like a Christmas tree. Also verified on in date test

ShikShakShok · 09/07/2024 02:38

First time I’ve had it.

Currently on day 15. Still feeling exhausted, achy and have a bad headache. Still testing positive with a strong line. I am better than I was at the start but definitely not completely better.

honeysucklebelladonna · 09/07/2024 04:14

Two days feeling rough with a sore throat, coughing by day three really stuffed up and in bed, harder to breathe, joint pain, exhausted, temperature. I’ve been in bed for five days now, I got up to have a shower today and it exhausted me, I was out of bed for maybe 15 minutes. My temperature is still up and down, the headache dulls for a while then comes back with a vengeance, I think it will be another couple of days before I’m fit to be out of bed, it has absolutely floored me.

BIWI · 09/07/2024 11:34

Mine lasted for just over a week. Genuinely no worse than a cold. (I only tested as I was interested, and we had a spare test - I was very surprised when it was a positive result).

First two/three days just a never-ending runny nose and feeling a bit bleurgh. High temperature overnight on the first night. All gone a week later.

64, fully vaccinated. Presumably this is what helped to keep it at bay as much as possible.

Thanks for that, though I know that if you use out-of-date urine dipstick all the squares react (happened when I had a urine dipstick test with a practice nurse, she was a bit flustered till she realised the tub she was using had expired, she got a new in-date box and nothing showed on that test). So I would be concerned about a false positive though in your case you had a new test which showed the same result.
Whatever I have got, it's pretty lousy!
Hope you are feeling better!

IamOliveOil · 09/07/2024 14:53

I’ve had it 3 times before and managed to shake it off after a week. Just had it in June at 20 weeks pregnant and it took me 3 weeks to shift. Maybe it’s because I’m pregs this time or it’s a different strain, not had any jabs for a while tho not that it stopped me getting it but they probs lessened the effects.

Topsy44 · 09/07/2024 17:12

I think I had it at the beginning of June - I tested on Day One and was negative and didn’t test again as just accepted the test!

I needed to take 2 weeks off work which is absolutely unheard of for me. Ironically I didn’t have a cold but high temperature on and off for about 10 days, horrendous cough, sweating, exhaustion, muscle aches, no appetite whatsoever, Week 3 I went back to work but still not 100 percent and Week 4 was still very tired.

This is about my 4th dose of Covid - the previous 3 times I have felt bluegh but still able to work.

Having read the previous posts from a couple of others that have had it recently but also had their jabs recently and not feeling too bad I am really thinking about paying for the private vaccine in the Winter as having this as a lone parent was no walk in the park!!!

QuiltedHippo · 09/07/2024 17:18

Started suffering late Thursday, feel mainly human today but not tried doing too much. Day 2 and 5 were the worst in different ways!

HermioneWeasley · 09/07/2024 17:25

Thanks for keeping the updates going.

my cold like symptoms are better today, replaced by wooziness and headache. Joint pain better but not gone. This is day 5 of symptoms.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 09/07/2024 17:48

On my day 5 most of my symptoms had gone or were fading but I slept all day. Couldn’t keep my eyes open.

The next day I was practically better.

wavingfuriously · 09/07/2024 20:09

Day 9 and think I've had a set back, feel awful
