I really enjoyed "The Gilded Age" it's on NowTV & there's two seasons with a new one coming soon

Redpriestandmozart · 04/07/2024 15:23

I loved The Gilded Age, written by Julian Fellowes. Set in the United States during the gilded age, the boom years of the 1880s in New York. The costumes are amazing. I recommend it, just waiting on them to finish making the third season. You can geta trailer on youtube.

Don't you think we need to meet Cora, or her mother or brother in Rhode Island??? I REALLY want that to happen. Or a least a conversation about her getting married or having babies etc.

However the timeline fits.

But - to your question op.

Julia is an excellent show staring Sarah Lancaster. It is about an American cook who started the whole whole television cookery thing.

Absolutely, a cross-over between the programmes would be great. I do love how some of the characters existed in real life, so well written.

LadyCrumpet · 04/07/2024 15:29

I liked Belgravia.

When I went to New York last year I went to some of the houses - they are by and large museums now. The staircase in the Carnegie mansion is jaw dropping. I glided up and down a few times. 😁

OMGsamesame · 04/07/2024 15:32

Upstairs Downstairs ( the original and the Keeley Hawes remake).
Belgravia
The House of Elliot

ha! They are great and rewatchable. I could add Gosford Park and Mr Selfridge too. I really love this genre! I quite enjoyed The Halcyon, shocking that only got the one series.

That party was based on a real party thrown by Vanderbilts in 1883. In todays money it cost approximately 6 million dollars! There are some good articles on line about it - fun to read and uncomfortable too - the level of spending.

mynewusername2023 · 04/07/2024 15:42

Belgravia is good as well. Binged 4 episodes on my flight to New York last year. The gilded age is a firm favourite of mine , cannot wait for the third season.

this is great and I haven’t seen most of these (House of Elliot possibly if it’s the one I watched 20 odd years ago) 🤣🤣🤣

Was about to suggest the same. I believe it is also written by Julian Fellows.

Billyballyboo · 04/07/2024 17:18

Some historical stuff like The White Queen and The White Princess might appeal. Lovely costumes, good plot etc. Also Wolf Hall.

Twotimesrhymes · 04/07/2024 17:22

Oh I see House of Elliot was 1991! Yes I’ve seen it. How is that 32 years ago 😕🤔

I loved The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, mainly for the frocks.
