spikeandbuffy · 03/07/2024 13:36

Just being nosy really. Health issues that cause fatigue but I'm like a permanently exhausted night owl
Last night my sleep thing says I had 5hrs 22 mins and of that 52 mins was deep sleep

I'm shattered Grin

I need a good 7.5 or 8 hours of actual sleep (so 8 or 9 hours in bed) to feel well, though. I know some people are fine on less!

Prapsfound · 03/07/2024 20:43

I think my ‘cut off point’ is around 6 hours, anything less I feel like utter shite. Although weirdly when I was breastfeeding both my newborns I felt pretty fresh on 4-5 hours, it was as if my body adapted to less sleep 🤷‍♀️

Ratfinkstinkypink · 03/07/2024 20:43

Last night I got 1 hr 41m, the night before was 4hr 53m with 41mins of deep sleep. 5 hours is a good night, there are very few nights no nights where I get 6 hours or more. I have small child with complex medical needs who has seizures at night, needs medication through the night and needs turning. At first I felt like shit on less than 6-7 hours but it is my new norm and it's OK, I function OK on it.

Bad. Although 52 mins deep is pretty good for me. When I had a newborn 5 hours was basically the base level of what I could survive on, and it was hard but manageable. 6 is much more humane.

typicaltuesdaynight · 03/07/2024 20:46

I do permanent nightshift and am awful at sleeping through the day, I feel sick most of the time it's really not good for you . Hopefully when ds starts high school I can move onto dayshifts

JohnnySoda · 03/07/2024 20:48

Fitbit says my average is 6.5 hours a night, and I don't usually feel tired on this. Even on holiday I don't sleep longer than 7, so that must be the amount I need.

5 hours would be OK as a one off.

BoobyDazzler · 03/07/2024 20:52

Pretty normal for a couple of days and then I’d have a really long sleep to reset.

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/07/2024 20:52

Pretty ropey on 5 hours but I'm sort of used to it.

Last night I had 3 hours, then 4 hours awake, then possibly another hour before the alarm went off, not sure. So 4 hours max, more like 3. I'm a chronic insomniac.

I felt like shite all day on 3 hours sleep, now (as usual) getting my second wind and awake again.

MrsHamlet · 03/07/2024 20:59

I'd be bloody delighted. I've had three hours since Monday night. Death would be a blessed relief.

MotherofWagonWheels · 03/07/2024 21:00

I average 5 hours a night with a baby and a toddler.

I feel okay day to day. But I know I'd feel a lot better with an extra two hours.

CosFuckThatGuy · 03/07/2024 21:01

I'd be fine. The last few years my sleep has been sketchy so I'm usually somewhere around 6 hours now.

ArcticBells · 03/07/2024 21:06

The max I ever get is 5 hours due to long working hours and commuting. I'm in my 60s and permanently exhausted - I sleep a lot at the weekend. I worry about the long term effect on my health as I've read that lack of sleep results in many problems later in life including dementia but I still need to pay the bills and can see no way out at the moment.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 03/07/2024 21:08

I lived with undiagnosed hyperthyroidism for a very long time so I am qualified to say: fucking dreadful, and same goes for 4, 3, 2, 1 and the dreaded ZERO hours!

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 03/07/2024 21:09

I feel utterly crap on less than 8.5hrs

Funnily I slept my best when on nights!
I would get home, eat, watch a bit of TV and then sleep 9-5 solidly

Spikeandbuffy lucky you I wish I could sleep I get to bed at 9 and the most I ever sleep till is 1pm , it's awful on my nights off I go to bed at 8 and get up about 8 . I have a blackout blind but I just struggle I've done nights for 18 years

TheHighPriestess1 · 03/07/2024 21:26

This is pretty much my norm, can often be 2-3 hours. Hit the coffee up until 12pm and I get through the day, just about.

heybearx · 03/07/2024 21:26

Would love 5 hours of full sleep! Not sure how I'm surviving on less!

sabadoo · 03/07/2024 21:28

I'd be tired on that. I need about 7 hours to be ok and 8 hours is best for me.

BrendaSmall · 03/07/2024 21:28

I’m lucky if I sleep 4/5 hours
I’m always up at 5/5.30 for work, I work 9 hours a day
I don’t get hardly any REM sleep and apparently that’s the sleep to make you feel better and it’s more beneficial for you

SummerWillow · 03/07/2024 21:53

My average is about 6.5 hrs, I manage on 5-6 without too much problem (have disabled DD who sometimes wakes at night).. I use a CPAP machine due to sleep apnea. Since using this, I feel clear-headed and energetic even with relatively short sleeps!

OrdsallChord · 03/07/2024 22:09

Tired, but able to function.

motherofonegirl · 03/07/2024 22:18

I get up at 5am but often don't finish work/house hold tasks until 9.30/10pm so like to unwind on the sofa before bed for a while. Probably average 5 and a half hours sleep a night during the week with an extra free hours on weekends mornings. I'm tired but managed fine.

Echobelly · 03/07/2024 22:20

A single 5 hour night is not a problem - 2 I'd be pretty tired but able to operate, more than two I think I'd feel pretty shattered.

SirChenjins · 03/07/2024 22:21

That’s about average for my peri insomnia. I’m knackered a lot.
