You're staying in a holiday let -

Would it bother you if the bed sheets and towels were brand new out of the packet (so not yet used by anyone so far) but still hadn't had a machine wash or iron yet. Literally taken out of the packet and put straight onto the bed and into the bathrooms factory fresh.

If it would bother you - why would it?
If it wouldn't bother you - why wouldnt it?

No wrong or right answers, just curious as this happened to a group of relatives staying in a holiday home recently. Some were quite annoyed by it, others weren't bothered. Some want to knock a star off the review for it, while some of the others think that's out of order.

I'm not part of the group, but it did get me thinking whether it would bother me or not.

I wouldn't even give it a second thought tbh, I don't wash anything before I use it

I would prefer them laundered but would assume some kind of mix up at the laundry service which meant a last minute dash to buy new ones was the best option.

I certainly wouldn’t knock a star off!

Exactly this!

Fine with me. I don't wash new bedlinen before using it at home.

Same

Neither. I wouldn't like it, but I wouldn't rate them down, because I'd assume a mishap. Although we did have a friend who just supplied cheap new linen in his holiday flat for every let, because it was cheaper than paying the laundry, so not necessarily.

Please don't tell me he just threw each set away after every stay ...😳

Indeed he did! He had no system in place for laundry.

Im guessing its the younger generation that are happy for stuff not to be washed.

I'm in my 50s and it wouldn't bother me. 🤷

EasterlyDirection · 29/06/2024 07:27

Not mortally offended but definitely a bit ewww.

Sgtmajormummy · 29/06/2024 07:44

There was an episode of House where a teenager went into anaphylactic shock and one idea was a reaction to chemicals in his new jeans (admittedly they smell awful).
The only new clothing I’ve washed before wear was my newborns’ first outfits, so sheets would not be a problem. Towels work better after a wash but life’s too short!

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 29/06/2024 08:04

Wouldn't bother me at all. It was a revelation to me that some people wash clothes before the first wear (staying with a BF years ago and he bought something and his DM took it to put in the wash 🙄) I love that first wear of something when it's all crisp and new!

TwoShades1 · 29/06/2024 08:05

Very strong preference for washed prior to use. However I don’t think I would change a rating over it. Only if it combined with other minor issues. I might make mention of it in a written review/feedback form.

Gameofmoans81 · 29/06/2024 08:12

Knock a star off?? Madness. No it would not bother me

BigDahliaFan · 29/06/2024 08:12

In my 50s and it wasn’t till I saw it on here that I realised some people wash clothes bedding etc before first use/wear.

very posh friend’s of mine used to wash their heavy guest linen once a year regardless of whether it needed it or not…bleurgh.

towels Needd washed first.

ThePoshUns · 29/06/2024 08:13

It wouldn't bother me at all

rookiemere · 29/06/2024 08:16

Gosh some people are so precious.
No it wouldn't bother me at all, at least I would know they were clean.

Ohtoberetired · 29/06/2024 08:39

The bedding wouldn’t bother me at all, but towels need to be washed before use as they don’t dry you properly otherwise. I wouldn’t knock a star off for it though!

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 29/06/2024 08:46

Not in the slightest. We always use them straight from the packet.
