Breakfast, only have kettle

Hello!

I'm going on a trip soon and looking for recommendations on breakfast things I can take that don't require cooking/heating/refrigeration (though I will have access to boiling water but that's all). To complicate things I have coeliac disease (gluten free). So far I've got porridge pots with nuts, dried fruit and then potential toppings like nut butter/honey.

Can anyone think of anything else? At home I exclusively eat porridge with fresh fruit which I won't have access to.

Thanks!

Boil eggs in the kettle?

mynameiscalypso · 25/06/2024 21:02

This may sound a bit...odd...but you can get self-stable yoghurt pouches for kids which doesn't need to be refrigerated. Could you put some of those in a bowl?

Maraudingmarauders · 25/06/2024 21:02

I'd take a tin of fruit compote (prunes, apricots etc in a spiced juice). Doesn't need to be refrigerated. Lovely with porridge or by itself. Alternatively take some dried fruit like prunes and soak in boiling water then add to your porridge.

Where are you staying, camping or a premier type venue?

Bread and jam / peanut butter
Porridge pots made with water or 50:50 long life milk
Pick up some ice and put it in a cool box / sink and buy some yogurt / milk and keep it cool overnight, add granola/seeds
Tinned fruit in juice not syrup.

Will you have room to store stuff or will you need to carry everything? Will you be in a hotel room or a tent? Any shops nearby? How long are you away?

RedPanda2022 · 25/06/2024 21:06

Those little long life brioche if available gluten free
bread & peanut butter

tiggergoesbounce · 25/06/2024 21:06

Porridge pots or eggs maybe

MumChp · 25/06/2024 21:07

I also have celiac disease.

I often bring bread and small packets of jam. And dried fruit.
You can make porridge when you have a kettle. Can't you buy fresh fruit?

Mammma91 · 25/06/2024 21:08

Tinned fruit might be a good option and you get a mix of various types of fruit. Although I’m unsure if the juices in the tinned fruit are suitable for a celiac. Do you like granola? I ate it like popcorn when pregnant but I’m not sure it’s to everyone’s taste.

RobinHood19 · 25/06/2024 21:08

If you’re heading somewhere like a hotel for work, just pack some fresh fruit or buy at a supermarket on arrival. It’ll stay fresh for a day or two and can be added to porridge.

Cereal (GF) or fruit bars?

Any favourite crackers? Things like protein crisps might not sound breakfasty but can be filling and nutritious if you’re after anything savoury.

Breakfast biscuits like this. OR cereal bars, like Rice Krispie ones.

You can get breakfast biscuits from Aldi and Lidl for half the price of BelVita

Not gluten free ones!

dudsville · 25/06/2024 21:14

Are there portable options for your other meals? If so, then i would forego the notion of your usual breakfast for this short period of time. Sainsburys do some nice seasoned beans and pulses, or some jars of olives, cherry tomatoes, etc.

BobbyBiscuits · 25/06/2024 21:14

@FeelingHotHotHotFeelingHotHotHot I love those strawberry and cream belvita, but they're definitely not GF!

Not gluten free ones!

But you can get GF similar. I often bring them if I am invited out fir a cup of tea.

Thegreatgiginthesky · 25/06/2024 21:16

I enjoy apple slices with almond butter for breakfast which is pretty portable.

Kelly51 · 25/06/2024 21:22

Are you going to prison? 👀

YouAndMeAndThem · 25/06/2024 21:24

Why can't you just have what you always have? If you exclusively have porridge and fruit, then porridge pots and tinned/pot fruit, or dried fruit will be fine. Why complicate?

Yes, there are, but that's not what that poster was suggesting!

But the idea of breakfast was fair.

Jordans fruseli bars are gf, and pretty tasty. They have 4 flavours.
It's not very breakfasty but cup noodles? Or no drain tuna and squeezy mayo with bread?

GalacticalFarce · 25/06/2024 21:28

Just have your porridge with fruit and nut every day.

Blouson · 25/06/2024 21:31

Go continental with meat. Well sort of. Peperami!

Judellie · 25/06/2024 21:32

Can you get gluten free Scotch pancakes? Or rice cakes (Organix do a lovely bag of apple rice cakes, found in the baby food aisle of all places).
Or snack a jacks as they're a bit like a rice cake (not sure if any of these are gluten free tho)

Frusli bars are not gluten free!
