Do You Have A Roast Every/Most Sundays?

I love a roast but can’t remember the last time I did one with all the trimmings. Sometimes we’ll have a mini roast midweek. Having bangers & mash tonight which reminds me I need to peel the spuds!

Yes, every week. Partly because DH cooks so I don't need to worry about it and partly because the leftovers feed our dog for the next week.

Same here!! If we have chicken, beef or lamb, DDog eats well for a couple of days via the leftovers. I do one probably 3 weeks out of 4 from about October through to Easter, then after that it’s more likely to be quiche or chops, chicken portions, new potatoes and salad. Can’t stand the kitchen with the oven on for ages when it’s hot outside.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 23/06/2024 18:54

Sadly no. I used to cook one when the kids were younger but they are now of an age where there’s other stuff like work, social plans, romantic plans… that prevent it from happening.

Yes I'd say 3 out of 4 Sundays I'll make a beef roast with all the trimmings, it's my favourite meal in life!!

Most Sundays yes, I like the tradition. Reminds me of growing up and my lovely grandparents

BeaRF75 · 23/06/2024 18:59

Never cooked one in my life. I am 59 years old. And very proud of both facts 😂

ajanifear · 23/06/2024 19:01

We rarely have a full roast for just the two of us, and tbh it’s just a bit shit compared to my mum’s. She cooks a roast pretty much every Sunday for her and my dad, my grandparents and any other waifs and strays around (me/DH, siblings + partners, passing family, next door neighbours, friend’s aged parents when friend is away, the local vicar, etc. etc.) she says it’s the best meal to stretch at the last minute

God no. Everyone would moan if I said that's what we were having.

Sundays are for afternoon drinks then a takeaways before work on Monday!

Not often, but I live on my own and it seems a lot of effort for not much gain. Part of the 'roast' thing is eating as a group, making an extra effort, couple of drinks. Feels stupid on your own. And a pork chop, or lamb chop, or steak isn't the same as a lovely big joint of meat.

Same here it seems like a lot of faff , but I've been fancing one all week so I had the full works today.
Beef , brocoli, cauliflower, roasties , new spuds , carrots , stuffing and Yorkshires. 🙂

macshoto · 23/06/2024 19:08

We did most weeks. More recently it has probably been every third week.

Squashinthepinkcup · 23/06/2024 19:10

About two or three times a year I reckon

LorraLorraShite · 23/06/2024 19:12

I love a roast dinner but it doesn't taste the same on a warm sunny day. I could happily eat one every day in the winter.

louderthan · 23/06/2024 19:20

I go to the pub for one sometimes. Can't be bothered to make it just for me.

emmetgirl · 23/06/2024 19:27

Yes but I go to a local restaurant after work and they cook it for me otherwise I wouldn't!

HauntedCosmos · 23/06/2024 19:30

Yes, most weeks we try to.

Ispywithmylittlepie · 23/06/2024 19:31

We love roasts. We haven't had one since about March time. Seem to have them religiously in winter and not in summer.

allaboardtheplaybus · 23/06/2024 19:32

Only if we go out these days - dc have left home but we always had one when they were here.

CMOTDibbler · 23/06/2024 19:32

Just about never. We've always got stuff going on at the weekends so no being in the house for extended cooking

Sunnyside4 · 23/06/2024 19:38

No, I work Sundays. DH is good enough to cook, but 90% of the time it's a rice dish, which he knows I'm not fussed about. Saves me from cooking though.

DelurkingAJ · 23/06/2024 19:44

Almost always, unless we’re out for lunch. When it’s the four of us sides are fairly limited (roast potatoes, Yorkshires and two or three steamed vegetables).

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/06/2024 19:46

I put them away in the summer because none of us want that big meal, but we do like our Sunday roast in the colder months. When there isn't an R in the month we'll be more likely to be eating something else, though I'll admit that it will often feature a roast chicken or a pile of roasted vegetables

Cuwins · 23/06/2024 19:50

No. As a kid we never did as both parents worked shifts so one was nearly always working on a Sunday. We occasionally would have a roast on another day- maybe once every couple of months but it wasn't really a regular meal.
So I guess it just never occurs to me to do it plus seems a lot of faff/washing up.
Tried a couple of times but it didn't come out very well.
However today we actually did! I guess not technically roast as it was whole chicken in the slow cooker, with air fryer roast potatoes, broccoli and gravy. I had a stuffing mix I had intended to do but forgot

Oblomov24 · 23/06/2024 21:08

No, only a few times per year.

TippedOverTheGravyJug · 23/06/2024 21:12

Yes I'd say most Sundays between end September and May. Also a midweek one kids love it and always ask for one

Summer not so much. We hate cooking indoors in summer anything that takes a bit of time. So unless kids go on and on for one then we probably have 1-2 a month

Springwatch123 · 23/06/2024 21:15

Yes, during colder months and barbecues in summer.

TheChosenTwo · 23/06/2024 21:26

Most Sundays we have a roast of some description.
this evening we had a roast chicken, roast potatoes, salad and focaccia - this is more typical of summery Sundays. But there are 5 of us, we all eat together and dh loves cooking. I’ve never made a roast!
