Do You Have A Roast Every/Most Sundays?

I love a roast but can’t remember the last time I did one with all the trimmings. Sometimes we’ll have a mini roast midweek. Having bangers & mash tonight which reminds me I need to peel the spuds!

No but we did every Sunday growing up until me and sibling moved out. Roast then a nap on the couch to the sound of the football and washing machine... heaven

I used to do a roast every week for my husband and daughter but nowadays only do about one a month. My husband used to be a very very plain eater and I cooked separate meals for us most days for about 20 years. But he's gradually got much better and so we do eat the same most days. When I was growing up I hated roast meat and gravy, and the taste and texture or roast potatoes made me gag. I used to dread Sunday lunches and swore that I would never eat another one once I'd left home. Apart from roast chicken and Turkey, I've kept to that.

Lieslies · 23/06/2024 14:52

Not often, but I live on my own and it seems a lot of effort for not much gain. Part of the 'roast' thing is eating as a group, making an extra effort, couple of drinks. Feels stupid on your own. And a pork chop, or lamb chop, or steak isn't the same as a lovely big joint of meat.

Most Sundays in winter. I find it too heavy in summer.

LizLooney · 23/06/2024 15:02

I'd say three out of four Sundays we have a roast. The fourth Sunday we'll have another special meal, perhaps duck breast and dauphinoise, so not dissimilar. Most often chicken, sometimes slow cooked lamb shoulder. We love it, my DH makes fab gravy.

ThingsWillOnlyGetBetter · 23/06/2024 15:03

Often in the autumn and winter. Never in summer.

I would hate to be expected to cook one or be expected to visit family for one every Sunday. Too much routine and it would irritate me not to have control over my own time.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 23/06/2024 15:05

Nope, it's just me and a 4 year old who doesn't eat (at all) here so I can't be faffed with doing a roast for one.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 23/06/2024 15:16

Yep,.we have a roast most weeks. During the summer, we tend to have it on a Monday evening instead of Sunday.

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/06/2024 15:25

We have a roast most weeks. In hot weather I might serve t with new potatoes and salad and depending on activities we might have it on a Monday rather than a Sunday( those are the days that I have most time for cooking) .

mindutopia · 23/06/2024 15:34

We do it about once a month in the cooler months, sometimes for lunch but sometimes for dinner.

I actually don’t really like a roast. It’s a bit boring to me, very plain food. But everyone else loves it and we raise our own animals so have a freezer full of joints, so we do have one, at least once a month, sometimes twice, but not during spring/summer usually.

migraineagain · 23/06/2024 15:40

No because i hate cooking.

obsessedwithfreshbread · 23/06/2024 16:31

We only have a traditional roast 4/5 times a year, Always have one at Easter but rarely at Christmas.
We do the various elements like roasting a chicken but today it's done on the bbq will have it with salad and pittas, or we'll have roast potatoes as a side dish on something else.
I find a roast a little boring.

AuntieMarys · 23/06/2024 17:00

Never make one or a Xmas dinner.

icebearforpresident · 23/06/2024 17:05

I love a roast chicken with all the trimmings it’s too much faffing to cook more than once every few months. My mum did a roast every Sunday for the best part of 20 years and I have no idea how she could be bothered.

kitsuneghost · 23/06/2024 17:16

Never. Roast dinners are worse than McDonald's and that's bad.

K0OLA1D · 23/06/2024 17:18

Not normally. Maybe every other weekend in the winter. We're having cottage pie today. I made it earlier so it's just gone in the oven and the carrots and peas are cooking.

hopeishere · 23/06/2024 17:48

Yes. DH loves one. I don't mind it. Hate doing over the summer when it's hot though.

Kids don't like to so I cook two meals. ConfusedHmm

Dollmeup · 23/06/2024 17:53

I do roast chicken (I also like lamb but it's too expensive) a couple of Sundays a month in the colder months. I love it. My mum did one every week when I was growing up and there was usually a good pudding afterwards too.

purpleleotard2 · 23/06/2024 17:55

been a veggie for 37 years

Inextremis · 23/06/2024 17:57

We (2 of us) have roasts on most Sundays in autumn, winter, and spring. In summer (allegedly now!) I tend to cook something a bit lighter - though we had a roast chicken yesterday (Saturday). Today it's steak, chips, mushrooms, pepper sauce and salad. I love cooking, and a roast dinner is boring to cook - but not so boring to eat!

StripedTomatoes · 23/06/2024 17:59

I don't know anyone who regularly has a roast for their Sunday dinner. They're not really a thing in Scotland.

NetballHoop · 23/06/2024 18:02

Yes, every week. Partly because DH cooks so I don't need to worry about it and partly because the leftovers feed our dog for the next week.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 23/06/2024 18:06

I'm surprised so many think it's a faff to cook. I think it's one of the easiest meals to prep & and cook, that's why I cook it so often, plus my kids always want to be here for dinner when it's a roast.

CrushingOnRubies · 23/06/2024 18:16

In the winter we do!

My dp works away in the week a lot and a roast means he's can set off on the Sunday evening and not have / worry about an evening meal

In the summer we might do an bbq of the weather is nice or we go somewhere where he can get a more substantial meal and I can have something lighter.

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 23/06/2024 18:52

Thankfully, we rarely have a roast here.

H used to try and do one every couple weeks but it's a pain in arse as I hate them and Ds1 (ASD) won't even touch any aspect of it. Noone in our house actually wants one except H so it's a lot to do for a meal only 1 person wants/will eat.

Sometimes we go to MILs and she will make one but that's a couple of times a year and we take DS1s safe foods for him.

Honestly even the smell makes me feel sick.
