getting on the tube after Taylor Swift, Wembley

sorry, it's another Taylor post!
Did anyone attend the London gig last night and what was it like getting back on the tube afterwards? I've seen some crazy photos of mad queues at Wembley Park at 12.30am and now wondering if I miss my tube, how much will it cost to get an uber to Paddington (where our cheap for London hotel is)
Would love to hear from people who attended the London concert yesterday.

Not for Taylor but have seen a couple sell out shows at Wembley before. It does take a while to get into the station, but it’s managed pretty well and I’d be surprised if you end up missing the last train.

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 22/06/2024 11:39

It always takes a while to get to the tube after gigs at Wembley, but it's very well organised with a good atmosphere and the queue moves as quickly as possible. You will be fine.

I saw Blur at Wembley last summer and it was very well managed getting into Wembley Park tube station. There was a good atmosphere, people singing etc
As above, it took a while but we were moving, albeit slowly. They hold people back from getting into the station so the platforms don't get overcrowded but it does just seem to work.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/06/2024 11:48

If it's tonight will there be night tube?

Brandyb · 22/06/2024 11:50

I went with my daughter and a friend. (It was amazing, but it's a marathon 3hr 25min set so be prepared!) It was a total logjam outside at the end. Probably worse for us because we were high up in the stands and even getting out of the stadium took 20-30 mins. It must have taken another 45 to get on a tube at Wembley Park, and even then the Metropolitan line was only going to Baker St. (Although that would be fine if you're only going to Paddington - we had to get to South London. Concert finished at 10.45pm - we got home at 1am!) There were stewards managing the crowds and only allowing through a certain number at a time. I guess any way you do it, getting 90,000 people out of a space at once is going to be tricky.

I did wonder afterwards whether we should have just walked up to Preston Rd, the preceding stop on the Metropolitan line, which is about 25 mins walk but in the other direction. Or walk somewhere else away from the gridlock and get a cab?

colouringindoors · 22/06/2024 11:51

I've seen Coldplay at Wembley and like others have said, its slow but well managed and good humoured. Unlikely to miss the last train. Enjoy! I'll be there too 😁

YouveGotAFastCar · 22/06/2024 11:51

It took an hour from the steps to the tube last night, or thereabouts.

It's faster if you leave a couple of songs before the end, but understandably a lot of people don't want to do that!

Gerwurtztraminer · 22/06/2024 11:51

The Jubilee line is a night tube so runs all night Friday & Saturdays. So even if you are too late for connections onto other lines just go to Baker St and walk or taxi to Paddington hotel from there.

But other posters are right that it's very well managed and the crowds disappear remarkably quickly.

Nannydoodles · 22/06/2024 11:53

Tubes are managed very well, they hold the crowds back to prevent overcrowding on the platforms but trains are one after another so moves pretty quickly.
You will be lucky to get an Uber I should think and the price will be high even if you did.

sundaysathome · 22/06/2024 11:54

we're going on a Thursday, just trying to plan ahead! Thanks for the really helpful advice. I'd leave during the encore but my daughter definitely won't be up for that!

You might struggle to get an Uber and there will be surge pricing. If your DD is old enough to stay up later, I would head somewhere like Boxpark for a late night snack and drink while the crowds die down.

inmyheadimthequeen · 22/06/2024 13:12

There is no encore OP, Karma is the last song and she won't be back on after it.

I can't help with your original question sorry, as I'm not from London.

tempted by this but worried that the crowds will still be there and they'll close
the tube. If there are still hundreds of concert goers at Wembley trying to get across London, do they keep tube going until crowds have got
on trains?

If the tube lines work we took a walk to Wembley Central and got straight on a tube after Bon jovi.

MistyHedgehog · 22/06/2024 16:25

They don’t keep the tubes running later on event days but the last train is at 00.32. You might end up missing the connecting train to Paddington but it’ll be a thousand times cheaper to get the metropolitan line to Baker Street and then an Uber / black cab from there than all the way from Wembley.

BobandRobertaSmith · 22/06/2024 16:30

Have you looked at overground trains too? No idea if that would be more or less crowded…

The last tube on Thursdays is half past midnight. Worst case scenario, if you missed that, you would be able to get an Uber more easily or a night bus.

Tubes run every 3 - 6 minutes. They hold 1600 people. Approx 50 trains will leave Wembley Park station after the concert so enough to carry 80k people. There is also the overground and Bakerloo line nearby, buses, taxis, and some people will drive or even walk if they are staying nearby. Wembley only has a capacity of 90k. It shouldn’t be an issue.

TFL does sometimes run extra services if there are big events but not ad hoc “until everyone has gone”.

BobandRobertaSmith · 22/06/2024 16:34

Where are you staying in Paddington? Near the station? It’s an easy and safe walk from Baker Street to Paddington, and there are plenty of buses and cabs if you miss the last connection.

RuntoReno · 22/06/2024 16:37

I went last night and had no issues getting on the tube. I had general standing tickets, made my way to the back of the crowds during the penultimate song but stayed until the end of Karma. Headed straight out and hotfooted it to the tube. Made it all the way to just outside the tube before getting stopped for crowd control but was on the tube within 10 mins.

Yeah similar to me. Standing tickets and we moved to the back and up the stairs during karma so we're leaving as the show ended. Walked straight to Wembley station to avoid the tube and we're on a train to Marylebone within 5-10 mins of concert end. Then train only takes 10 mins and then we switched to tube

However, I believe there's no trains tonight/tomorrow night so queues are going to be much worse for the tube

keeptryinggirl · 22/06/2024 20:39

are you permitted to bring in any food at all? i am thinking… a small pack of sushi and an apple kind of thing

yes but did you bring them in yourself or buy them once entered?

RuntoReno · 23/06/2024 20:53

@keeptryinggirl stopped by Aldi near the tube station and brought them in myself.
