Hairdresser refused to do my hair ....

tbstandsoff · 21/06/2024 20:34

Been going to her for 7 years now.
Go every 6 weeks
I get a t section highlights and the rest of my hair just cover the grey roots.
I was there a month ago and booked for today for my appointment (holiday in a week)

I got there and said "just the usual t section and roots"
She said "sorry I just put you down for roots ,I thought you wouldn't be wanting highlights again after just getting them done a month ago"
So I said "oh yeah I do as my hairs so naturally dark, and grows fast"
She said "sorry I don't have time,I can do your roots and cover the greys but no highlights"
So I said "well can you just do the t section and il do my roots myself "
She said no I don't have time.

I'm annoyed
She didn't ask what I wanted done
She booked my appointment as normal
So now I have dark /grey roots for holiday
Would you be annoyed ?

I’m confused, she said she’d do your roots so why do you still have dark roots?

If it helps I think your hair looks nice

rubyroola · 23/06/2024 20:58

@SmudgeButt you were in the wrong.

OP sounds to me like she had not left enough time so tried to make you do something you don’t normally have to save herself time/effort. I wouldn’t be going back after that given the info in your updates.

Hairdresser refused to do my hair ....

I get you @EasyPeelings , hairdresser appointments are meant to be like a pampering session, but yet are mostly stressful.

I tried doing my own hair bit unfortunately, back problems mean I can't do it well.

You're lucky to avoid it all. I'm back having to deal with moody, slow or too loud hairdressers. They are good but I pay for in in more than just money.

If it's easy to fond another hairdresser OP, then do but if not, maybe give her another chance.

We all have bad days.

PorridgeEater · 23/06/2024 22:03

There are plenty of hairdressers - surely you can find another one if you want to?

Ariela · 23/06/2024 22:13

Am I alone in thinking what's wrong with what you've got? Looks fine to me. By the time you've sat in the sun 5 minutes it'll all have blended in anyway, won't it? (Well mine would). (How on earth do you afford the time let alone the cost for hairdresser every 6 weeks anyway?)

Harmonypus · 24/06/2024 00:51

I wouldn't be that bothered about it for a holiday, no-one will be looking at you. Just make sure you get what you book next time.

Find another hairdresser

What a lot of fuss and bother! I'm so glad that I stopped going to hairdressers several years ago. My hair is now its natural colour and I cut it myself when needed, I just chop an inch or two off the ends every few months.

I don't have the kind of hair I can cut myself. Lockdown proved that.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/06/2024 06:52

Your hairdresser sounds awful @tbstandsoff. I think I'd have compromised though and had the roots done.

I go every seven weeks and my hairdresser decides what my colour needs. She's fab though. She would also bend over backwards for me. I have been her customer for 25 years and I tip.

You may not be in a big city, but your hairdresser sounds very reasonable, I pay £180 for highlights and a root tent.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 21/06/2024 21:55

I'd be annoyed with myself that I didn't state what I wanted when I booked the appointment.

After SEVEN YEARS of the same treatment you would be unreasonable to be annoyed at yourself for allowing your hairdresser to book as she always does.

dunkdemunder · 24/06/2024 07:01

@PJsandbiscuits

If I read your post correctly you didn’t get your roots done? I think if you had, it would have helped to blend the colour and not leave you with dark roots.

😐
Doing the roots is putting dark colour to match her roots so the greys are covered.

Of course this will leave her with dark roots.

PJsandbiscuits · 24/06/2024 10:37

Hmm. I must have a different hair treatment then, as when I get my roots done, they are lightened/coloured to match the rest of my hair.

It's all about the root melt nowadays

@Jimmyneutronsforehead no it was at 1.30pm
It makes me laugh as once she ran a hour late
There's times she's left me at the sink for a hour too

I think you need to find a new hairdresser/hairstylist. I understand having the same person to go to can be easier, but I’m sure you can find someone you can go to regularly who won’t do this to you. I hope you spoke to her after she left at the sink for an hour. I understand people can run late etc.

She said there wasn't a lot of contrast and the dark would of blended
I'm not going mad am I ...you can clearly see dark roots ?

Sorry... I'm a natural blonde and this is what hair does look like as your roots don't usually get highlighted from the sun as much. I suspect your hairdresser was using their experience to say that you shouldn't/don't need highlights and that it would look awful. If you're going on holiday your hair should highlight naturally anyway.

I don't understand. Is this with the roots done? I can't see any grey at all. The roots look darker but it still looks good, a month seems very early to go back unless you are going away for a few weeks? I'm sure you'll look great in holiday pictures.

S0livagant · 24/06/2024 14:50

tbstandsoff · 22/06/2024 10:58

I wouldn't normally go every month
Normally 6 weeks to the longest 3 months
I only left it a month (well 1 day short of 5 weeks actually when I did the calculations " because of holiday and wanting to look nice and not have grown out highlights

If you've left it three months before then her assumption makes sense, you could just have it done six weeks later and it still wouldn't even be as long as you'd left it before. She should have checked but then she likely would have been asking if you were sure you wanted it redone after such a short gap.

jackstini · 24/06/2024 14:51

I would be annoyed as she obviously got it wrong

However, it is feasible she would not have considered you were having more highlights only 4 weeks after the last lot, as that could be quite damaging

Are you going somewhere where your hair will see a lot of sun and chlorine? If so, might be safer to not put bleach on only a week before. You will go lighter naturally anyway

I can't see any grey on your roots tbh and the dark is not that bad, but you could always take a temporary root spray or powder with you plus a highlight spray if you feel self conscious.

Cheap solution then see how light you are on your return?!
