Hairdresser refused to do my hair ....

tbstandsoff · 21/06/2024 20:34

Been going to her for 7 years now.
Go every 6 weeks
I get a t section highlights and the rest of my hair just cover the grey roots.
I was there a month ago and booked for today for my appointment (holiday in a week)

I got there and said "just the usual t section and roots"
She said "sorry I just put you down for roots ,I thought you wouldn't be wanting highlights again after just getting them done a month ago"
So I said "oh yeah I do as my hairs so naturally dark, and grows fast"
She said "sorry I don't have time,I can do your roots and cover the greys but no highlights"
So I said "well can you just do the t section and il do my roots myself "
She said no I don't have time.

I'm annoyed
She didn't ask what I wanted done
She booked my appointment as normal
So now I have dark /grey roots for holiday
Would you be annoyed ?

Sounds like she was worried about the health of your hair if you usually get it done every six weeks but this was four. A misunderstanding on both sides. However you’ve shot yourself in the foot a bit as she offered one of the services but you chose none

It sounds like a one of misunderstanding. If you like her then just move on from it. We're all human

Totally agree. If more people took this attitude to what is just a simple miscommunication then we'd all have an easier life!

Never assume. If you're wanting something particular then specify it on booking.

tbstandsoff · 22/06/2024 10:16

@Shan5474 not really ,it was a waste of time her just doing roots and leaving the dark at the front when the main thing I wanted doing was the highlights
I feel awful with the dark roots at the front
I wasn't paying £80 for roots and blow dry to then need to come back and pay £70 for highlights etc when it should be £100 for both
I would of been paying for two blow drys

I don't think it was a genuine misunderstanding in this case, because the OP always gets the same thing done. I also don't think concern for the OP's hair has caused the stylist to deliberately book her for a different treatment than she wanted.

I think it was either a simple fuck up and too many customers booked, so nudge some into shorter processes, or (unlikely) a policy to try and increase business by booking different processes separately. Either way the OP was right to leave, and if she sticks with them should check when booking exactly what is being booked.

I’m confused, she said she’d do your roots so why do you still have dark roots?

This.

stayathomer · 22/06/2024 10:44

She might be extremely busy though, I’ve had hair appointments where the hairdresser flitted between a few people and heard people complaining

Londontown12 · 22/06/2024 10:49

4 weeks for high lights is not really enough of a gap tbh ! 6 weeks it’s quiet often I’m not gunna lie ! (Hairstylist ) I think u should maybe find a new stylist and change your colour service have a chat what u wud like and change it because what your having done every 6 weeks is excessive! Why not go for a low maintenance blonde with a root shadow ? X

tbstandsoff · 22/06/2024 10:58

I wouldn't normally go every month
Normally 6 weeks to the longest 3 months
I only left it a month (well 1 day short of 5 weeks actually when I did the calculations " because of holiday and wanting to look nice and not have grown out highlights

She said there wasn't a lot of contrast and the dark would of blended
I'm not going mad am I ...you can clearly see dark roots ?

You are not going mad. She said this because she wanted the easiest path for her. Builders do the same - tell you to do something different than what you asked for because it is easier for them.

It wasn't what you wanted. Well done for not being coerced and walking out.

What a lot of fuss and bother! I'm so glad that I stopped going to hairdressers several years ago. My hair is now its natural colour and I cut it myself when needed, I just chop an inch or two off the ends every few months.

That's amazing. Everyone should just do that then.

🙄

And does everyone clap when they see you?

KvotheTheBloodless · 22/06/2024 12:07

OP, YANBU at all, that's really shit planning on her part. Sounds like she's not good at time management.

Can you find another hairdresser at short notice and at least get a strip of foils down your parting before your holiday?

MessyHouseHappyHouse · 22/06/2024 12:23

Definitely time for a change as she’s now taking your custom for granted.

Find another hairdresser and book in to get your parting lightened at the very least as that will be the quickest option if they don’t have time to do the full T section.

Wow you're amazing

PJsandbiscuits · 22/06/2024 12:46

I see my hairdresser every 7 weeks and get my roots done to cover the greys and get highlights every 2nd or 3rd visit. My natural hair is quite dark and I found getting highlights every visit was too much -my hair started to look brassy -not to mention expensive. The tint does help to blend my roots in even without the highlights. But my hairdresser is a great colourist so I trust her.

If I read your post correctly you didn’t get your roots done? I think if you had, it would have helped to blend the colour and not leave you with dark roots. But it sounds like you’re not happy with your hairdresser, so find someone else.

@Jimmyneutronsforehead no it was at 1.30pm
It makes me laugh as once she ran a hour late
There's times she's left me at the sink for a hour too

I don't think that she values you as a customer, Op.

Oh, I don't think most people would want to though, would they? I think most like to go to the hairdressers and have their hair done. I don't like it so decided not to do it any more. What others do is up to them. I'm just glad not to have to bother about it.

EasyPeelings · 22/06/2024 19:19

KvotheTheBloodless · 22/06/2024 12:06

And does everyone clap when they see you?

Hahaha! No, I've never mentioned it to anyone. It's never come up in conversation. I'm not sure if anyone other than my family is aware, probably not.

EasyPeelings · 22/06/2024 19:21

bananaphon · 22/06/2024 12:27

Not really. I'm afraid I'm not at all good at it! Fortunately I have the type of hair that I can get away with just lopping a bit off. 🤣

Nopeandno · 22/06/2024 19:23

She double booked/over booked herself

I would find someone else tbh

AmelieTaylor · 22/06/2024 19:28

She should have valued you as a regular customer, and rebooked later appointments.

i hope you can find someone to fit you in before your holiday!!

whynotwhatknot · 22/06/2024 19:56

souns like she made a mistake i would have just done my roots still

SmudgeButt · 23/06/2024 18:41

Could be worse....I had booked an appointment for a cut which most times takes 15 minutes at most. I was a bit late for the appointment (5 minutes) which left 25 minutes til they closed. No, too late, can't do you at all. And this on the day before I was leaving on holiday so had to go with a shaggy mop head. Never went back of course.

AstonMartha · 23/06/2024 18:47

@EasyPeelings do you realise that they are taking the piss out of you?

@tbstandsoff I agree with pp, it sounds like a genuine lack of communication. If she’s over wise a good hair dresser then don’t loose her due to this.
