Can anyone help me remember a song just going off an extremely vague description?

I want to say the song is probably 80s, but I may be way off with that!

As far as my brain is allowing me to remember it's sort of a similar style to ch-ch-ch-chaaanges (Bowie), and I get around-round-round (Beach Boys). The very vague memory I have seems to have a similar 'repetitive'/stuttered sort of sound if that makes sense.
I also want to say the lyrics include a suitcase... grabbing a suitcase from somewhere and packing? Packing up your bags? Just... packing? Again, may be completely misremembering or merging with another song entirely.
It's mainly the stuttered sound that's my most confident memory of it... particularly the beginning of the song.

Can anyone hazard a guess based on these very cryptic clues? Grin

'Sweet Jane' by the Velvet Underground?

Would I Lie To You (Honey)?
Eurythmics.

I've packed my bags,
cleaned the floor,
watch me walking
walking out the door !

Based on your description, it sounds like you might be thinking of the song "Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads. It has a distinctive stuttered rhythm and repetitive lyrics, and it was released in 1979, which fits with your sense of it being from around the 80s. The lyrics include lines like "Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit? Heard about Pittsburgh, PA?" and mention packing up and leaving. Does this sound like the song you're trying to remember?

What year did you sing it?

This one jumped into my head, too, thkugh I don't think it's the one. What I do know is that it's a earworm I will probably have to work at expunging for several days, now.

Sam Cooke "somebody have mercy " first verse
Somebody have mercy and tell me what is wrong with me
Somebody have mercy baby, and tell me what is wrong with me
Sometimes I don't know how I stand the things this woman do to me

Scott mills does this on his afternoon show in ratio 2! You call in and describe the bits of the song you can remember then callers try and work out what it is, he has quite a good hit rate!

Sorry, I'm back!

It's still not any of these but this thread is giving me some long forgotten bangers to add to my playlist!

I do remember thinking at the time that it's something my dad would have jammed to when he was younger and he'd think it was cool if he watched our performance, he's in his mid 60s now. So maybe 70s music included? He likes rock music.... maybe it's more of a rock vibe?! I'm sure it's about 'leaving', I think that's why I have it mixed up with suitcase/bag packing lyrics.

I'm just bloody googling songs with stuttered lyrics! It's really annoying, because I KNOW that I know the song and it's only not coming to me because I want it to!
