Once it hits a certain temperature why do men have to take their tops off?!

I mean, everyone else copes but no the poor man has to show he’s extra hot by taking off his top

Yep agree, in the park or the garden it’s not too bad. In Tesco - bleurgh!!! I do not want sweaty chest hairs falling into potentially my dinner. Gross. Tops on inside please chaps.

Blackcats7 · 21/06/2024 15:49

Do supermarkets allow topless shoppers?
Genuine question. I’m housebound and not been in a supermarket for years.

Interesting
men in hot weather should only take clothes off to cool down if they’re tanned and muscular. Otherwise they should stay covered up?

No, it's just as repulsive whatever they look like. Bare skin is fine when you're by the ocean, not in the city. Especially when they're on public transport sweating all over the seats 🤢

I think some do from a hygiene standpoint, but many chains don’t have a specific dress code policy and just rely on local outlets enforcing as they see fit and using common sense.

Agree that public transport counts as ‘inside’.

Agree. Funny how it's never the lads who spend hours in the gym either.

I think that's just science though - unfit people are quicker to sweat, so it makes sense they'd be the first ones to struggle in the heat.

justforthisnow · 21/06/2024 16:00

This is an academic perspective on the issue which I hadn't considered.

scrapsontheside · 21/06/2024 16:03

It knocks me sick! Do what you like at home but out and about, nope put your top back on 🤢🤮

Theunamedcat · 21/06/2024 16:11

Pre covid there was an admirable person in tescos when confronted by a running armpit sprayed it 😳 she said its bad enough he is dripping all over the aisle he had the cheek to drip over me

Personal hygiene needs to be mandatory especially when your invading Personal space

He called security on her who laughed and said put some clothes on mate

Kinshipug · 21/06/2024 16:12

Yes it's so unnecessary! Women manage to not strip off at the first sign of sun. Why can't they cope in a loose cotton shirt and shorts!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/06/2024 16:14

When I worked at a doctors men used to come in top topless for appointments in summer.mmm sweaty armpit hair

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/06/2024 16:15

That was sarcastic btw

Churchview · 21/06/2024 16:18

This lunchtime there was a man (think Bernard Manning) in the pub garden showing off his hairy nipples which had 'mild' and 'bitter' tattooed underneath them.

Needmorelego · 21/06/2024 16:18

It's funny because I have seen dozens of women today wearing nothing but a vest style crop top (practically a sports bra), tiny shorts that are so tight you can see their pants through them or teeny tiny skirts that are shorter than tennis ones and a pair of flip flops.
All males I saw had tops on.
This is in London - not a beach resort.

MateysMusing · 21/06/2024 16:18

Fuelled by football fever as well at the minute. It's no different to flashing really, or that wanking in public thread, asserting their masculinity over the public. Nobody really wants to see it.

GennyLec · 21/06/2024 16:20

It's very Onslow, isn't it.

scrapsontheside · 21/06/2024 16:22

I used to work on a pub with a big beer garden, as soon as it was sunny blokes would be topless (manager never cared cuz groups of men put money in the till) once I started working there I made the rule no shirt no service ! The clientele definitely improved

RomeoRivers · 21/06/2024 15:18

If it was socially acceptable for women to do the same, then so would I! I hate wearing clothes when it’s hot 😂

To be fair there are many bikini tops that get you to as close to illegal as you can 🤣

Ideally yeah 🙂

pinkzebra02 · 21/06/2024 16:24

It doesn't actually make much sense because 1 light layer of clothing actually provides some shade for you skin whereas bare skin means you withstand more of the rays (the UV ones that burn you and the infrared ones that make you warm). So most of the time, being bare skinned in the heat makes you feel more hot.

Hoppinggreen · 21/06/2024 16:24

No idea, it seems to be a very British thing though as I have never seen it in other (much hotter countries).
It's also (waits to get slated) a certain type of man as well

scrapsontheside · 21/06/2024 16:25

Also it's not ever hot yet, today I wore leggings a sweatshirt and a denim jacket!

In batchit crazy britain there really should be equality on going topless. If a male can then why can't a female? Perhaps females have more decorum?!

AgnesX · 21/06/2024 16:26

It's generally a certain type of man. The kind that make Onslow and Rab C look athletic and classy 😁

Ithoughtitwasyou · 21/06/2024 16:39

The owner of a shop I used to work in was VERY old school. The shop sold fine china, lead crystal glassware, etc, and any shirtless man that attempted to cross over the threshhold was given short shrift!

This was in a grim northern industrial town, why the men would think it was appropriate to stroll about without a top on, always nonplussed me.
