Mattress when sleeping on sons bedroom floor

My son has never been a consistent all night sleeper, which I have no problem with. Lately I've had to move into his room and sleep on the hard floor from 4.00am....what do people use as a mattress?

I don't have lots of money or space but I need something as my body hurts! Coosleeping or bed sharing is not an option.

Thanks

What type of bed does he have? Is there space to keep a blown up bed underneath his which you can just pull out?

Ishagonnaland · 18/06/2024 21:21

I'm guessing an actual mattress isn't the answer, for some reason?

Folded up double / king size duvet?
Seat cushions from the sofa?

If no space then I'd get a decent camp bed. But we just have a double bed for my daughter and roll her away once asleep.

imnottoofussed · 18/06/2024 21:22

What about one of those beds that has a single that pulls out from underneath

IOYOYO · 18/06/2024 21:23

I shoehorned a cheap IKEA mattress into my DS’s room at this stage. It was a lifesaver and worth the sacrifice of play space.

darlingsweetpea · 18/06/2024 21:24

I should have mentioned he is in a cot bed and not ready for a bigger bed. He's 2 years old.

I think I need something that folds away as I don't have anywhere to store a mattress.

You can get a chair bed from Ikea, so a sofa bed but single?

Honestly I'd just put him in a single with a trundle bed underneath and a gate on the door. Neither of mine have ever slept in a cot.

I was looking at those dog beds for adults earlier and thought they looked mega comfortable.

This is why I put mine in double beds from the cot. Was just so much easier during the times I needed to be there overnight.

reluctantbrit · 18/06/2024 21:41

Get a single bed with a trundle. If you are worried about him, get a bed guard. DD slept a lot better in a single bed than her cot bed.

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/06/2024 21:43

There is a range called Jay-be that is worth looking at.
Get the best one you can afford for comfort.

I put mine in a single bed and slept in it with him at that age.

WYorkshireRose · 18/06/2024 21:44

DS was in a double bed as soon as he outgrew his side sleeper for this precise reason, though he was generally a terrible sleeper so it was very much a needs must scenario for everyone to get some sleep. Do you have space for a sofa bed?

SadieSue29 · 18/06/2024 21:46

I do the same with my 2 year old, every morning 3am. I just have some blankets and a spare duvet folded in his wardrobe and get them out and lay on the floor.

We do have a fold out chair bed but it's pretty uncomfortable and the carpet is softer.

It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one :)

I used to do the same too OP and it isn't comfortable. As PP has said, I used a double duvet to almost make a sleeping bag for myself.

When we could afford it we bought DS a double thinking one of us could get in with him, and he chose that point to start sleeping through again 😂

GreenTrees00 · 18/06/2024 22:17

Same here. I bought (second hand) single beds for them with bed guards. The bed has space underneath for a small single, soft foam mattress. I pulled that out and slept there most nights for months! Better than the floor.

PiggieWig · 18/06/2024 22:21

In a pinch, Aldi have folding gym mats (the thick ones) in the middle aisle this week. On another thread a poster wamtwd to take hers to a festival so they must be pretty comfy.

Or shove an airbed under the cot bed.

I spent many a night on two beanbags but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Yup, I have one of these, actually really comfortable.
