Can you diagnose me?

Georgethecat1 · 17/06/2024 19:22

I’ve seen a GP and they weren’t very helpful just kept asked me if I was depressed.

My main issue is tiredness all the time no matter how much I sleep. I’ve always been a good napper but this is taking the biscuit nowdays. I slept 9 hours and had a 1.5hr nap today, already looking forward to bed.

Also feel sick (every day or every otherday) or am sick (Prob 1-2 weeks)

I drink quite a lot and am thirsty but diabetes has been ruled out

I bruise easily and platelets dip to 100ish but come back upto 200.

I have a lot of IBS stomach issues, can go to the toilet multiple times a day. Sometimes the cramps are so painful but other times manageable. I have a constant small to large intestine pain bottom right.

Iron is sometimes low but currently it’s back up, B12 is fine and thyroid. I have some raised liver function tests but nothing the GP is concerned about. I had IBD ruled out with a stool sample.

Can food allergies cause all these symptoms? Any other suggestions? I’m loosing the will to live with thr tiredness and I feel like my GP doesn’t care

The most common symptoms of coeliac disease in adults include:

  • anaemia.
  • bloating and flatulence.
  • diarrhoea or constipation.
  • fatigue, weakness and lethargy.
  • nausea and vomiting.
  • stomach cramps.
  • weight loss – although weight gain is also possible.

I have had a coeliac blood test and it was negative. I might try gluten free to see if it makes a difference regardless….good ideas!

Were you eating lots of gluten containing foods for at least 6 weeks before the Coeliac blood test? A diet with not much gluten can give a false negative result.

ghostbusters · 17/06/2024 20:47

Before going gluten free, it might be worth looking into the FODMAP diet for IBS. Don't embark on this yourself, ask your GP for a referral to the local NHS dietitians who should offer this service. It can be tricky to follow yourself.

Gall10 · 17/06/2024 21:04

Please don’t ask for medical advice on a message board…everyone’s purely guessing.
See GP again.

But my GP just asked if I’m depressed which I’m not and honestly they are useless. I wanted some ideas so I could research myself and go armed with suggestions.

I’ve tried FODMAP and there seems to be too many things that upset me…left me even more confused

I can’t remember and I’m sure I’ve been tested…..I can’t find the result I will have a dig through my test results when I get a chance tomorrow.

Have you any siblings or close relatives with coeliac disease? I had a negative blood test but because my sister has CD, they sent me for an upper endoscopy anyway. As it happens I don’t have CD, but my sister who does also had a negative blood test but was later found to have it after she had the endoscopy and biopsies taken.

I do, however, have ME/CFS and some of your symptoms are similar to mine.

DaisyCat33 · 17/06/2024 21:50

Thyroid? Just to note, mine was underactive and a doctor said it was "normal" when it definitely wasn't, it just wasn't bad enough for them to do anything (and the bar for bad enough in this country is much higher than others)

MumofCrohnie · 17/06/2024 21:52

People with untreated Crohn's will tend to have slightly high platelets.

Could it just be chronic itp? Immune thrombocytopenic purpura? That will cause fatigue.

TiredArse · 17/06/2024 22:24

H pylori?

Surreymum947 · 17/06/2024 22:31

Look up ITP

Singleandproud · 17/06/2024 22:36

I can't diagnose but I have a Garmin which tracks sleep and gives insight onto your body battery which is fairly accurate. It will say whether my sleep was long but not restorative likely to be because I had body stress late in the day or wasn't active enough. It will suggest how long my body battery will last and suggest when to take a rest to recharge etc which is quite useful at helping you be mindful about how your body is doing.

Gluten is hiding everywhere, be sure to check all labels.

Blood tests aren’t always accurate, neither are biopsies. If you are ever offered a biopsy, be sure to eat gluten in the weeks leading up - the test checks for reaction/response/inflammatory markers.

What about Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?

DilemmaDelilah · 18/06/2024 07:10

I was extremely unwell after my first round of chemo and my magnesium and potassium levels were very low. Have these been checked? Once my magnesium was up to a decent level I felt much stronger. There are loads of magnesium supplements available, you could try that.

Yes I have some family with coeliac so it’s definitely a thought. I think I might try it for a good few weeks and see if it makes a difference. I have nothing to loose right now, I can’t be more tired 😂

Coeliac disease?

Would by my guess too. GPs often overlook it too.

Mine started after a bad bout of Covid!

It might be worth pushing for a referral before you cut out the gluten because it will probably give you a false result otherwise. Or if you cut out gluten and feel better, just remember you’d need to reintroduce it for 6 weeks before any biopsies.

Sunnysummer24 · 18/06/2024 09:06

Do you have you actual blood test results?
