Many many funerals including my father and in-laws and sadly baby grandson

Singleandproud · 17/06/2024 13:47

2 weddings
0 funerals
Mid 30s

WhatNoRaisins · 17/06/2024 13:48

So far weddings but I think going forward it's going to be funerals. Not everyone gets married but everyone dies.

ItsFuckingBoringFeedingEveryoneUntilYouDie · 17/06/2024 13:51

About 7 funerals that I can think of, and no idea how many weddings, probably at least 3x that number.

Now reaching the stage where it is the next generation marrying, and more elderly relatives are reaching their time.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 17/06/2024 13:52

15 weddings that I can recall but I'm possibly forgetting a few.

Lord knows how many funerals but I'm Irish so I've been to loads where I didn't know the deceased so parents of work colleagues/neighbours/etc.

Mouldyfoodhelp · 17/06/2024 13:53

1 wedding as a child about 5 funerals

1 wedding as a child about 5 funerals

And I'm early 30s

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/06/2024 13:54

In my mid 50s now, it's probably about an even split.

Upminster12 · 17/06/2024 13:57

Far more funerals. In the past 3 years I've been to 4 funerals and 1 wedding. I'm only 40! It's my family, which is very top heavy - my generation is small, no cousins, but there are loads of older relatives. I also have a friendship group that doesn't seem very inclined towards marriage for various reasons.

It's similar. Until maybe the people who are children at the moment get to marrying age I don't actually have anyone in my circle likely to get married.

AsYouWantToBe · 17/06/2024 13:58

Funerals. I'm Irish, and it's culturally entirely ordinary here to attend funerals of childhood neighbours, colleagues' parents etc.

IDoLikeToBeByTheSea · 17/06/2024 13:59

4 weddings and 20+ funerals. Am mid 30s.

drspouse · 17/06/2024 14:07

Weddings but the first of my parents' siblings died recently and my own children/nieces are too young to get married so I'm due for an uptick in funerals.

LifeofBrienne · 17/06/2024 14:09

Just counted all that I can remember, and I make it 30 weddings and 9 funerals.

Crunchymum · 17/06/2024 14:09

As an adult

Funerals (6)
Weddings (4)

DelurkingAJ · 17/06/2024 14:13

Many more weddings. We averaged about six a year for about five years in our late 20s/early 30s. And all my many cousins weddings as a child. Funerals, I think 11 so far. And this year, for example, in my mid 40s it’s one family funeral, two weddings. Long may the trend continue.

iggleoggle · 17/06/2024 14:14

A lot more funerals, but playing the organ for them was a gig for me during the uni years. But even of ones I’ve been to in a personal capacity it must be 15+ (quickly counted up 14).

Weddings, probably a similar number.

LakeTiticaca · 17/06/2024 14:15

Quite a few of each actually.
Only 3 family funerals but I used to be a home carer so sometimes went to pay my respects to a client who I got on well with

pinkspeakers · 17/06/2024 14:17

Definitely weddings. I don't know how many weddings I have been to (tbh, it is not that many!). But I've only been to 8 funerals (parents, two grandparents, FIL, two friends, one friend's parent) and it is definitely more than that. I think 8 just family weddings, before I get to friends.

I'm surprised how many people have been to more funerals. I'm in my 50s. I imagine the balance will shift towards funerals as I get older, but most people here are younger than me I think?

Twotimesrhymes · 17/06/2024 14:19

It’s the norm where I love fo go to funerals of work colleagues and friends of friends or neighbours etc so several more funerals than weddings

longdistanceclaraclara · 17/06/2024 14:19

Weddings, but the funerals are starting to ramp up. Ditto divorce.

FuckTheClubUp · 17/06/2024 14:20

Weddings and I’ve only been to two weddings….

peachgreen · 17/06/2024 14:21

Weddings. Before my DH's I'd only been to my grandparents' funerals. I've had a few more since then but I hope it will be weddings for a bit longer as I'm not even 40 yet!

Chocolateorange22 · 17/06/2024 14:22

More weddings definitely, DH has some large circles of friends.

Think I've been to about 8 or so funerals but 20+ weddings I'd estimate at

Anotherdaydone · 17/06/2024 14:22

26 weddings and 7 funerals
