Any other short women on here who need very little cals to lose weight?

moneyinthebinthatsmrtim · 16/06/2024 07:56

I am 26, and 5'2.

I maintain if I eat anything over 1300.

To lose a pound a week, I can go to 1200.

To lose 2lb, I need to eat a bit less than 1100.

I know this because I've seen it for myself and it's really shocked me. It isn't about to calories, is it! I tried upping calories and no, that doesn't work. I have to stick to very little

There's so little wiggle room.

My H can eat 2200 and not gain any weight at 6'3 Envy

Sorry, that should say 'it isn't a lot of calories, is it

I should add that I don't have an eating disorder but this is just factual from seeing it and the results (and non results) each time with these sums

It's also worth mentioning that I could add another 150 cals if I did intense workouts but I don't and haven't got the time, sadly.

I’m exactly the same! On an average day where I’m working and can’t exercise I only burn 1500. One big meal and I put on weight!
It’s really hard.
I try and focus on eating 1200 consistently and exercising when possible.
But I definitely envy my taller friends who can eat a lot more than me!

This is my situation too op. With activity included my maintenance kcals are 1650 per day. I need to stay lowish fat with food as well as well.

I've just lost 2.9 stones in a year by just learning to eat less and letting the weight come off slowly.

It sucks , but I do eat the same foods as I did when I was heavy , just in smaller portions.

AmandaHoldensLips · 16/06/2024 08:10

I'm knee-high to a grasshopper and it's totally unfair.

ViciousCurrentBun · 16/06/2024 08:11

Yes I’m small. It wouldn’t matter but I live with 6ft 2 DH and 6ft 5 DS who obviously need to eat a lot. They have remarked with a is that all your having? on more than one occasion. I love food and enjoy cooking I just have to have much smaller portions than them. I had some lovely fresh ravioli with sea bass and roasted vegetables last night. I had a third of the pasta, it was so nice I would just have liked more of that taste.

MrsBurtMacklin · 16/06/2024 08:11

I'm the same OP. It took starting mounjaro and weighing daily to recognise that anything more than 1200 is too much.

ilovethenoise · 16/06/2024 08:11

I'm 5:1 and I can eat 1400 cals but only if I do around 8-10k steps. I used to try and do 1200 but I was just so miserable and tired from missing out.

Also, I gain weight SO easily. Even though I know in theory it is 'water weight', I can enjoy a big roast and a few glasses of wine and the following day be 5lbs heavier on the scales. It comes off gradually during the week if I drop back to 1400 but it feels as though I have to pay all week for one day of eating outside my calorie limit.

user8800 · 16/06/2024 08:13

Yep
I'm 5'5" and currently trying to lose weight on 1300 cals per day
I'm so hungry by bedtime
:(

Unmute · 16/06/2024 08:13

Yes, same here. I've realised I don't need many calories to maintain a healthy weight, so I've stopped eating breakfast and lunch.

I have a substantial snack mid-afternoon and then a big dinner. I loosen up at the weekend and have coffee and cake out, and a nice breakfast roll.

My weight has now stabilised but I will basically be on a diet forever.

tangoboxing · 16/06/2024 08:13

Yes, 5ft here (& nearly 50 too 😭); I can lose 1/2-1lb a week if I stick to 1000/1100 calories. It completely sucks.

HowDidJudithSurvive · 16/06/2024 08:15

I feel your pain OP, I am 5ft 2 and to actually lose weight I need to eat tiny amounts. I have found building a bit of muscle has helped though, muscles raise your BMR a bit by just being there. I am not a bulky body builder or anything, I just had zero muscle mass before, skinny fat as they call it.

Yep, that is me!

When I was in my teens, I had an eating disorder. And think it started from watching family it huge amounts and I was never able to, I'd gain weight. It sucked.

I now have a healthy relationship with food BUT the reality is I can't eat much food

RandomMess · 16/06/2024 08:31

Yep 5' over 50 and DH well over 6'

Sad

Oh and genetically have high cholesterol.

I eat a lot of veg.

I am overweight.

ProjectEdensGate · 16/06/2024 08:40

I'm also 5'1" and the amount of calories needed to lose weight is miserable TBH. Ive started using Huel for breakfast and lunch. It's the only thing that fills me up for so few calories.

I know so many people say you can't out run a bad diet, but I have personally found that exercise makes a HUGE difference for me with my weight. I have always lost more when exercising as well.

I also don't have a 'healthy' BMI and have given up trying to maintain one. My happy weight is around 10st-10st 7lbs which is still over weight but I look alright.

olderbutwiser · 16/06/2024 08:45

5’ 2” and 65.

Evolution thinks I’m redundant and if I want to live then air and scraps are enough for the likes of me unless I’m doing the work of a carthorse.

FriendsDrinkBook · 16/06/2024 08:51

@ProjectEdensGate I just landed at 10 stones 6lbs after a year of cutting back portion sizes and fat intake , it still leaves me with a high bmi apparently (27 down from 35) , but I feel healthy and know that I can maintain this weight without yoyo-ing. Sure , I could make myself hit bmi 24 , but it'd be miserable , short lived and totally pointless.

MichaelAndEagle · 16/06/2024 08:51

I think you have to accept its half a pound to one pound a week weight loss, rather than 2 pounds.

It is frustrating. I'm 5'2 and absolutely feel your pain. I'm losing weight very slowly.

Greaterorlesser · 16/06/2024 09:02

I think we have all lost sight of what we actually need to eat to maintain our weight. Somewhere along the line the 2000 calories a day became believed to be the number we need a day. It certainly stuck in my head for years. But as a child in the sixties I know that what I ate then is nothing like what I eat now. Portions were smaller, puddings were only for Sundays. There weren’t takeaways, apart from occasional fish and chips. A day’s menu would be for instance - Cereal for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, boiled potatoes, a chop and some veg for tea. Maybe some fruit (an apple or banana) and sometimes a biscuit with a cup of tea if my mum had any in the house.

We were ravenous when we sat down for dinner and that was fine. We’ve been unaccustomed to living with hunger now. I maintain weight on 1500 calories a day and I’m very active for modern times, but compared to the sixties I’m sedentary.

Yep this is my situation. I CAN lose 2lb a week by living off carrot sticks and plain chicken and water but it's a miserable existence and as soon as eat normally again it all comes back.

Instead I'm losing incredibly slowly (1st in 6 months) but it's sustainable for me and the weight has crept off as gradually as it came on.

Small changes - much smaller portion sizes of the same food. I've stopped snacking generally by brushing my teeth straight after I've eaten my evening meal, always choosing to walk, use the stairs if its an option. I do yoga once a week and run 3k 2 or 3 times a week. My diet wasn't THAT bad in the first place it was just too much.

Like another poster for me the biggest difference has actually been exercise. Although the increased exercise hasn't really changed my weight it has changed my shape - everything is a bit more toned and although I'm still overweight (BMI 28) I can tell I'm fitting into clothes in a very different way.

JMAngel1 · 16/06/2024 09:08

That does seem low given that you’re so young - it gets worse when you get older!

I’m 5 foot 2 and very small boned. My BMR calorie requirement for the day with moderate exercise is only 1200. That will maintain me. It’s so little but I have got used to it now (2 meals a day - one a huge salad with protein and the other a large bowl of Greek yoghurt with nuts fruit and seeds) . But I am 52 - at your age I could eat pretty much anything I wanted and not gain weight so I would go and get your TFTs checked just to rule that out.

gamerchick · 16/06/2024 09:13

Doing weights guarantees you being able to massively up your calories over time. I couldn't cope with such low calories now. You have to eat.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 16/06/2024 09:18

Also short and also require very very few calories. And I have to move a lot to earn more.

I have a Fitbit with my height and weight details logged, and I have to do so much to hit 1,900 calorie burn. I rarely make it, and I average 16,000 steps a day. (That level of activity puts me at around 1,700 on the fit bit but I think really is more like 1,600 from my own judgement of what is maintenance).

StellaOlivetti · 16/06/2024 09:19

I am 5’3”, which is bad enough. I then became both 5’3” and post menopausal, and the amount I can eat without putting on weight is frankly terrifying.

Oblomov24 · 16/06/2024 10:12

Same. So unfair. Both my boys can eat 1000's, literally with boxing or rowing some men need to eat 5000-8000. I eat an extra 100 and I put on a lb!
