I am 26, and 5'2.

I maintain if I eat anything over 1300.

To lose a pound a week, I can go to 1200.

To lose 2lb, I need to eat a bit less than 1100.

I know this because I've seen it for myself and it's really shocked me. It isn't about to calories, is it! I tried upping calories and no, that doesn't work. I have to stick to very little

There's so little wiggle room.

My H can eat 2200 and not gain any weight at 6'3 Envy

I'm 5ft nothing and I need to eat about 1000 calories a day to lose weight! Which is of course impossible and why I will never be slim 😁

makeanddo · 16/06/2024 20:46

Does it suck though or actually is all upf making us want to eat more and feel we are depriving ourselves.

My grandparents and parents hardly drank. Plates were smaller, meals slower (eaten around a table at meal time), no sauces, no crisps, small amount of chocolate snacks etc.

Don't get me wrong, it's hard, I need to go 8-900 low carb to lose (5 ft 2). However I think the mindset of depriving ourselves is born out of the crap that's available to us and that crap is moorish and tastes so amazing as opposed to thinking that depriving ourselves is not having all the delicious colourful good stuff.

I am 5 foot and I have to eat about 700 -800 calories to lose weight.

I have been doing Herbalife so completely calorie controlled at about 1200 and I lost ….nothing in eight weeks. Last week I decided to try Dukan again …800 cals a day made out of the delights of protein mainly - finally weight loss this week.

I think I must’ve been incredibly active in my 20s and early 30s because although I was aware of calories I didn’t strictly calorie count for the most part and maintained a weight of 9stone give or take half a stone while regularly eating cakes and cookies and large dinners. I must have been eating around 2,000 calories a day!

Most of the time my activity wasn’t the gym or any kind of deliberate exercise, it was just commuting - walking to and from train stations etc and I’d often stand in my work which was teaching.

Nowadays I’m finding I don’t lose weight unless I do 1200 calories a day too and I’m 5ft 2. I WFH so far more sedentary than my younger days, but even when I used to exercise for 1 hour a day from home - sometimes more - I still had to cap my calories at around 1400 calories.

I’m in my late 30s and have lost 2 stone since the pandemic and just under 11 stone now, but it’s been slow going and still got more to lose.

I totally agree, especially your last paragraph. I am SO sick of people saying that weight loss injections are 'cheating'. I feel like saying to them, you try living on 1000 calories a day for months on end,and only manage to lose a couple of pounds for your efforts, feeling constantly hungry, weak and washed out. Even my own GP more or less said that I should exercise more will power to lose weight. I think he's under the impression that I'm stuffing my face with sweets and cake all day long, when the reality of it is I can't actually remember the last time I ate either of those things.

I have a friend of a similar height who lost 4 stone in less than a year by walking her dog for hours every day and doing OMAD (one meal a day) I think she eats two meals a day now to maintain and still walks a lot.

I’m considering doing the fast 800 just until I get the weight down a bit more, but worried my weight will spring back if i go back up to 1200 calories after eating 800 calories for a sustained period of time.

Sorry,my above post was meant to have quoted lawnseeds post,it disappeared for some reason.

I'm 4'11" and if I stick to 1200 and an hour of hard cardio 6 days a week I loose too much weight once it starts to drop off.
If I do all the exercise and try to maintain I can each humungous amounts of food.
Now I have trouble with cardio (asthma and can't get through warm up without coughing my guts up) I've gained on about 1500 a day. So I've turned into a Roly poly and have given up.

ShowOfHands · 16/06/2024 21:20

I lift very heavy weights several times a week, rarely touch a dumbbell under 8k, do squats and deadlifts and similar with 30k dumbbells. I also run a few times a week, average 18k steps a day, cycle and do yoga three times a week.

I don't drink alcohol or sugary drinks and eat a plant based diet predominantly. I drink lots of water and an earl grey once a day.

I gain if I eat over 1400 calories a day. I used to be a size 8, but struggling to maintain a size 10. Perimenopause and being short is the bloody pits.

tigerbear · 16/06/2024 21:23

Thank god I’ve found you all!
I’m 47 and really struggling to lose weight.
Am 5ft 2 and just over 9 stone, with all the fat round my middle.
Been training with a PT for the last 8 weeks, who seemed to think I should be on at least 1400 calories a day. Not a chance!

Like PP, the only way I can lose weight is by going low carb. Have tried the Fast 800 for a couple of days last week, and felt lighter within 3 days, but have fallen off the wagon this weekend, with lots of gin, roast potatoes, dessert etc 😩

Goldenmemories · 16/06/2024 22:18

Lift weights!

30 min x 2 a week. Life changing. I'm 5ft 1 and can eat loads now because of the increased calorie burn even when I'm asleep.

I learned to lift at body pump classes and now do it alone at my £29 per month gym. Good technique is essential.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 16/06/2024 22:20

I'm 5'3 and need to eat 800-1000 to lose. I'm currently eating roughly 1300-1400 and maintaining.

It's soul destroying, honestly.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 16/06/2024 22:23

Similar height to you, and similar kcal too. It’s crap.

you should see what happens when you hit 40 though 😩

AlltheFs · 16/06/2024 22:25

Yes, but I don’t give a shit, I still eat what I like. I’m not bothered what my weight is. I like food more than I like being thin.

Trewa · 16/06/2024 22:34

4ft8 and have pcos, I always struggle with weight as I really need to go really quite low to lose, nice to find my people!

Fraa · 17/06/2024 07:32

I did a version of the Fast 800, but did 1200 calories instead. It was still really effective (and I was 48, post-menopausal, I'm 5 foot 2 and don't exercise beyond walking).
