If you've given birth...

Do you wee when you cough/sneeze/jump on a trampoline? Or similar.

And how many children do you have, what was your birth like?

I have one DC, vaginal forceps delivery. I don't have any urinary incontinence, however I was 18 when I had him.

I'm finding myself worried about having more children, and the effects it will have on my body now that I'm not an elastic teenager!

One child, ELCS when I was 36. Never had an issue. I've always had a strong pelvic floor and it has stayed the same after pregnancy.

SackofSweets · 15/06/2024 21:43

Hate when people say leaking “isn’t normal” yes it is. Some women might be able to cure it but many might only be able to help or reduce it, like me. I am not abnormal. I am 1 of 50% of women who experience pelvic organ prolapse.

MamaBear2210T · 15/06/2024 21:46

Have a DS who is 2. C-section delivery after an induction. Don't have any issues with wee.

Yes, any sudden movement or running. Had a third degree tear though

PenelopeBridgerton · 15/06/2024 21:55

And forceps! It's much worse in the week before my period though so there is def initially also a hormonal trigger

DryFebEmma · 15/06/2024 21:56

I have 4, all natural births - 48 next month and have zero problems with urinary incontinence. I have never ever leaked and as a theatre nurse go hours between toilet visits (unless on my period when I feel like I need a wee quite frequently, but always have - hormones?)

YellowHairband · 15/06/2024 22:06

No, I don't.

I've had two vaginal births

I say that - and it's true. But I don't think the type of delivery is that relevant. Pregnancy itself affects your pelvic floor much more.

Two dd here. I'd say I leaked a lot after dd1 during exercise, I started doing weights and this improved. After dd2 I've continued with weights and I do a lot of yoga and I e managed to pretty much get a good pelvic floor back. Only time I leak now is if my bladder is full and I sneeze. A little bit will come out. It is totally normal op but it is unlikely to improve on its own with time. Honestly yoga has totally changed my core sinew having the kids, I just do videos off YouTube at home 😁

The phrase I hear is it's common but not normal, meaning many women do leak but could be helped by pelvic floor exercises. With the sense that calling it normal suggests it can't generally be improved and should just be accepted.

Where does your 50% statistic come from?

spikeandbuffy · 15/06/2024 23:05

I think with coughing it depends how bad it is too. I've never given birth and have a strong pelvic floor (horse riding 30 years)
Normal cough is fine but I lost control of my bladder with covid totally! The hacking cough meant I just had no control whatsoever

I have a 5 year old and 9 week old and I'm 36. I had 2 vaginal deliveries no tears or anything. I've not had any issues at all with leaking - although admittedly I don't jump on trampolines much lol

papadontpreach2me · 15/06/2024 23:53

2 cesareans and yes I do leak on the trampoline.

I know someone who hasn't had a child and she does the same on trampolines.

harleo · 16/06/2024 00:23

I've had 1 vaginal birth (no tears or stitches) and 2 elcs. I can jump on trampolines without leaking although I only go on briefly (to join in with dc). Coughing and sneezing are usually OK but I had an awful cough earlier this year which lasted weeks (may have been Covid - didn't test) and I was leaking every time - I ended up sitting on the loo every time I needed to cough. My general fitness is OK but I don't do any strength training or core exercise, just lots of walking.

its over their lifetime. The percentage is higher the older someone is.

Many women won’t know they have a prolapse until later on as they aren’t symptomatic.

Yozzer87 · 16/06/2024 09:20

I've had four c sections, no vaginal births and I sometimes leak when I sneeze suddenly. If I coughed or sneezed during my third and fourth pregnancies I would sometimes full on wet myself. Both those babies were large weighing over 10 pounds and I am quite small so I think all the pressure was too much for me.

Insegnante · 16/06/2024 09:28

No. I had one traumatic vaginal birth and one csection with twins. However, I did find that my pelvic floor suddenly got worse around the menupause, years sfter giving birth which scared me into actually doing the exercises!

Insegnante · 16/06/2024 09:30

Aldo I don't actually know about the trampoline as haven't been on one in years!

TwoShades1 · 16/06/2024 09:57

One child I had her aged 29. Straight forward vaginal birth. No interventions. And everything is absolutely fine.

I could jump on a trampoline while desperate for a wee and be completely fine. No issues with coughing or sneezing which is good as I get sick very often and have hay fever allergies.

yumyumyumy · 16/06/2024 12:27

C section. Never had any leaking. I didn't know you could get leaking after a c section but I had a premature baby (34 weeks) so there probably wasn't much strain to my pelvic floor.

CatchHimDerry · 16/06/2024 12:32

One DS, CS delivery. No pee or poop problems but for some reason issues with farts escaping if I laugh, cough etc

Very strong and weight lifting etc beforehand so don’t know where it’s gone wrong but I find it v. embarassing!

missnevermind · 16/06/2024 12:43

4dc. At 40 1 traumatic EMC after lots of failed intervention. 1 absolute dream birth and no intervention. 1 vontouse after long labour plus stitches. And first wasbstraightforward with stitches after.

No problems whatsoever. Exercises are important but I never went overboard. Always did a few while boiling the kettle or standing in line somewhere. Still do at over 50 and have a bladder like a camel.
