Would you like to join me at 8pm BBC1 to celebrate Michael Mosley and all he has meant to us? Perhaps with a glass of red wine or some nuts, dark chocolate and berries?

Like many of you, I’m a huge Michael Mosley fan – I’ve 8 of his books sitting on my book shelf as I type. He’s the one who introduced me to intermittent fasting, and to creating a healthy gut. His is the comforting voice that accompanies me on walks, inspiring me to do Just One Thing. I realise he is the public persona who has had the most influence on my life. I will miss him hugely.

There’s a 60 minute tribute programme to him on BBC1 8pm this evening: The Doctor Who Changed Britain.

I’m going to be watching with DH with a glass of red wine, a wee bit of blue cheese, some dark chocolate, nuts and berries. In moderation of course!! I love the idea of thinking of others doing this at the same time – a couple of my mates are in other parts of the country – Would you like to join us?

And perhaps share what he's meant to you.. I'd love to know more and hope others will take some comfort from the huge difference he has made to so many lives.

And from today I’m taking on the Just One Thing I’ve been meaning to do for a while – Standing on one leg while brushing my teeth. As well as dipping into the book with affection, and gently reintroducing some of the others – like walking backwards, which always makes me laugh.

ps my apologies - I've also posted on AIBU and in Fasting to reach more people, so yes, it is the same info....

Absolutely! What a lovely idea, I've been so upset and moved by his death and will definitely be watching xx

Onedaystronger · 14/06/2024 19:20

What a lovely idea. I've arranged to eat with a friend who I don't want to let down so I'll watch on catch up and pop back to this post later.

I listened to a final "just one thing" on radio 4 this morning. It was MM's last recorded one, on "living a good life" and it was a lovely listen, bittersweet in hindsight but I thoroughly recommend it.

CurryOnRegardless · 14/06/2024 19:23

I’ll join! I have dark dark choc, and red wine.

gymgoals2024 · 14/06/2024 19:27

Oh I'd love to OP. I was sort of struck by how his death felt like losing a friend, it stirred sadness and rage. He had a big impact on me - after years of yo yo dieting I found Fast 800, it was the catalyst for change for me, reeducating me about cooking and eating. I then had an excellent health check in my early 40s, the nurse said I was the best she had seen. I felt amazing, so energised and clear headed.

I transitioned out of F800 into strength training and now eat a higher protein diet with moderate carbs but still clean and Mediterranean and have sustained a healthy weight without the binge eating.

I still use some of the recipes, all so delicious. I decided to revisit lots of the recipes over the coming months.

Feels wierd for me to be sharing positivity when it's sad but he seemed such a positive person.

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 14/06/2024 19:27

I will.
I do daily squats in the morning, that dear Michael Mosley did with his wife. I think of her and can't imagine how sad she will be now x

StripedTomatoes · 14/06/2024 19:29

Nuts is the word!

WingingItSince1973 · 14/06/2024 19:29

SleepQuest33 · 14/06/2024 19:33

What a lovely idea! I don’t drink and it’s too late for dark chocolate but I’ll have some nuts in my yogurt and say a 🙏for him at 8.

lovely wonderful human he was!

Pinkfan2024 · 14/06/2024 19:39

I’d love to join you. I’ve already set the programme to record. I have chocolate and nuts but I’ll stick to water. Still sad but a lovely idea.

I'm getting the kids to bed but am planning to watch later. His death does feel like a real loss somehow, although I never net him, and I want to honour the good he did.

RoxieLoxy · 14/06/2024 20:02

A lovely idea for such a lovely man. I still feel so sad about it.

GameOfJones · 14/06/2024 20:05

I am joining you in spirit. I'm not feeling up to watching him on the TV just yet and I've paused listening to his Just One Thing podcast as I'm just too sad about his death at the moment. I will definitely watch the programme on catch up when I feel up to it.

But I have raised a glass to him just now and said a mental thank you.

He helped me a huge amount. Just small, inconsequential things but as I've said on other threads I now eat a handful of nuts and a piece of fruit every day specifically because of his advice. I also stand on one leg when brushing my teeth. It doesn't mean anything much to other people but it means a lot to me that I've taken tiny steps to improve my health specifically because of him.

So cheers to you, Dr Michael Mosley. I shall miss your positivity and infectious enthusiasm very much.

CurryOnRegardless · 14/06/2024 20:12

I agree with so many of these messages, but this one especially.

I will never quietly roll my eyes at others mourning a celebrity death again, when I have been so incredibly effected by MM's. I am still so desperately sad about it, and can't bring myself to listen to or watch him yet.

He was so inspirational and I loved his curiosity and zeal for life and knowledge. I too feel like I've lost a dear friend, and am (selfishly) sad for myself; that I'll miss the rest of what he had to offer to all of us.

I cannot bear to think of what his wife and children are going through, when I am sad and never even met him.

Enjoy tonight. I was so thrilled that the BBC was doing something for him. I'll look forward to watching it when I'm up to it.

ssd · 14/06/2024 20:19

PerkingFaintly · 14/06/2024 20:23

Joining you all with a Brew and some thanks.

“I will never quietly roll my eyes at others mourning a celebrity death again, when I have been so incredibly affected by MM's. I am still so desperately sad about it, and can't bring myself to listen to or watch him yet.”

Understandable. What comes across is his total generosity. He does these experiments and puts HIMSELF through stuff, in order to offer something to his audience.

Very different philosophy to many other presenters and journalists

Willmafrockfit · 14/06/2024 20:26

i dont have red wine or dark chocolate, sadly, but do have nuts

Flowery57 · 14/06/2024 20:31

What a lovely idea for such a lovely man who had had a big impact on my life … love his podcasts. I feel too sad to watch it this evening but with you all in spirit … with my dark chocolate x

HermioneWeasley · 14/06/2024 20:32

He seemed like a genuinely lovely man. How devastating for his family and friends

loveyouradvice · 14/06/2024 20:43

He so does... devastating for so many ... what moved me most was him wanting to live longer than his Dad (72) so that he could be there for future grandchildren and be fully involved in his children's lives for longer....

Yes, I do feel like I've lost a friend and can so understand those of you who can't yet listen or watch him, I couldn't until yesterday...it is heartbreaking

So deeply grateful to him ... and so very sad. Yes I am shedding a tear or two after watching that....

OP posts:
Willmafrockfit · 14/06/2024 20:49

it is still so sad and just Wrong

ssd · 15/06/2024 11:23

It is devastating, more so after watching the programme. He seemed such a lovely caring family man. He obviously did all he could to live a long healthy life with them, as that was denied his dad.
So sad he wasn't able to do this. But it feels he died in such a preventable way. Must be extremely difficult for his family to accept.
