Gift for my DD who has just found out that she achieved a first

So bloody proud.
Our DD got the result today, she achieved a first. Unbelievable considering her subject was maths and she caught Covid 4 times in her first year.
What be a suitable gift/reward?

Maybe I'm old, but it never occurred to me that anyone should give a gift for the first class degree I got.

Is this a thing now? I'd have thought that forking out for graduation was enough.

Oh FGS.

bruffin · 13/06/2024 19:06

We always planned to get DD a present for graduation what ever she graduated with, as it was she got a first.

We bought her a necklace from Clogau as she went to a welsh Uni and we do have welsh roots as well.

Oh dear. I didn't buy my daughter anything for her First, her masters or her PhD. How crap am I?

And another one. Seriously, why come on the thread just to be an arse?

If she has ADHD, perhaps not a keepsake like a pen as there's the added pressure of not losing it.
I think a tattoo sounds like something she'd really appreciate and wouldn't be able to lose!

OrlandointheWilderness · 13/06/2024 19:07

Holy cow that's impressive, a first in maths! You know her best OP - what do you think she's love?! Sounds like a tattoo is potentially a really good one. You must be so proud of her!

Pretty crap to be fair, all that work and you didn't mark any of her successes at all?!

Both of those posters have managed to boast about themselves and then try to shit on others.

Embarrassing really.

Maybe you could just give some cash OP, then she can choose something herself.

TerfTalking · 13/06/2024 19:17

I bought DD a solid silver Leeds Uni crest charm, her graduation outfit and a celebratory dinner with champagne. She got a 2:1 but it was still a huge achievement as far as I’m concerned.

Topseyt123 · 13/06/2024 19:19

My DD doesn't have her results just yet but will in the next week or two because graduation is on 27th of this month. Looking good though.

I took her shopping today and we bought her suit for graduation. We'll get drinks and a meal out on the day.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 13/06/2024 19:20

Lots of reverse snobs here. I think jewelry is a nice idea.

AdoraBell · 13/06/2024 19:20

I would by something like diamond pendant or earrings if she likes jewellery.

beeswain · 13/06/2024 19:21

What about something practical like a good watch or a bag/luggage/rucksack?
Be bloody proud op!

Whatabouterry · 13/06/2024 19:21

Well done your DD! That is an amazing achievement.
I think a tattoo sounds perfect.

Parker231 · 13/06/2024 19:25

Congratulations to your DD. My parents bought me a watch when I got my 1st - I still wear it everyday. DT’s both got 1st and we bought them both watches as well

This advert appeared in the middle of the thread and I thought for a moment someone was recommending it as a graduation gift Grin

CassandraWebb · 13/06/2024 19:27

I think as she likes tattoos then a tattoo sounds perfect Smile

purplecorkheart · 13/06/2024 19:27

I was given a beautiful necklace from a relative when I got my first but they knew that I loved this particular designer and they got it made especially.

I think the tattoo idea for your daughter sounds like an ideal gift for her.

Ilovelurchers · 13/06/2024 19:36

Tattoo is a nice idea.

I think if this was my daughter I would buy a small keepsake gift (based on what she likes - mine would like a weird freaky goth ornament or a notebook or a phone case or something) to show I had thought about it and picked something, but then also say, I will spend such and such an amount on you (whatever I could afford at the time and seemed reasonable) - you pick what you would like with that, be that a weekend away or clothes or vouchers or whatever.....

Hurray for your DD - she sounds epic and I understand why you are so proud....m

Mydogisagentleman · 13/06/2024 19:38

Tattoo it is then.
Goodness knows where she will put it.
I just want to grab her, squeeze her and say how proud of her we are.
Given the obstacles she has overcome, she is a superstar

You're an awesome parent, may I just say?

MavisPennies · 13/06/2024 19:43

That's an amazing achievement! Well done to her! What about a bit of jewellery? Whitby jet is good for an alternative vibe. I think the fact she knows you're proud and that she's got the first are the main thing though.

nicky2512 · 13/06/2024 19:45

@Mydogisagentleman Congratulations to your dd! Tattoo sounds perfect if that’s her thing.

We are in the same position today with dd except a first in Spanish and French. My dd loves jewellery and loves brands! I was thinking of either a necklace or earrings but she def isn’t expecting anything.
Grandparents are buying a Waterstones voucher which is usually her favourite gift!

Nice to have something to keep (which a tattoo def is!).
Enjoy her graduation.

VivaVivaa · 13/06/2024 19:48

Just wanted to say your DD sounds awesome OP! Enjoy her success x

ShanghaiDiva · 13/06/2024 19:49

Being proud of your child’s achievements is not a new thing…
