It’s mid June

I know there are countless threads but I’m shivering outside watching DS(3) wearing a coat trying to make the best out of a play area on a farm shop. Normally it would be a lovely treat but we’re both miserable and cold and will go home soon. WTF is going on seriously? Sad

It's due to the jet stream bringing temperatures from the Arctic down to us. It'll improve eventually.

My sympathies tend to lie towards those in the countries which are currently struggling with 40-50 degrees at the moment though. People are dying. Also there are really bad floods elsewhere. Our weather might not be seasonable at the moment, but it's nothing more than a small inconvenience. Just bung a jumper or cardie on.

Like the old " there are people worse off than yourself "

Its depressing. Theres research to back up that its depressing.

themurkyera · 13/06/2024 13:50

I had the heating on this morning. Rural Scotland. It’s a bit warmer now but more rubbish weather is coming.

JamSandle · 13/06/2024 13:51

I'm definitely feeling gloomier than usual. We will soon be in winter again and I just want some more lighter and warmer evenings.

LandPuff · 13/06/2024 13:52

Why do people who are “mad for the sun” always swear on the weather threads? Is it genetic?

Crushed23 · 13/06/2024 13:55

Friend’s birthday in a beer garden in London this Saturday. Forecast was 22 degrees and sunny about a week ago and now it’s 17 degrees with ‘thundery showers’.

Depressing.

Echobelly · 13/06/2024 13:56

I'm not sure why people are acting as if we've never had such a cold June - looking back on my FB memories I seem to have plenty of memories of Junes where the heating was on, wearing winter coats etc. 2010-2013 were all pretty rubbish summers, and a few after that as well

We got very spoilt by summer 2020, but it's not particularly unusual to have an unsummery June.

But agree it's still annoying - I've been unemployed for a couple of months, just top start a new job and I did think 'Oh well, at least it'll be spring going into summer' - LOL 🙄

Who is sweating on the thread?

BlibBlabBlob · 13/06/2024 14:12

Going against the grain here but I'm very happy with the current weather... just about cool enough to exercise the dog at any time of day, house isn't too hot, easy to sleep at night. Evenings are still light until late, the weather doesn't affect sunrise and sunset! I would always, ALWAYS rather stick on a jumper or wear a coat outside than be too hot. British houses are very hard to cool down if the weather is warm. They're usually easy to warm up a bit, though.

The OP used the term 'WTF' which apparently means that sunshine lovers are foul mouthed.

No we fucking aren't!

Whatsmyusername94 · 13/06/2024 14:16

It feels like it’s been freezing and raining for most of 2024 so far so would have loved it to have warmed up by now.
hopefully it will get warmer soon

No one @Bluevelvetsofa , it’s too cold, that’s the whole point! 😂

dontevencareifunreasonable · 13/06/2024 14:32

Blimey sensitive souls upset by wtf! I do apologise 😂

It's Britain, you haven't got to expect too much when it comes to the sunshine as there's always going to be a lot of clouds and rain because it's a small island. Perhaps get a daylight box as that can relieve any depressive symptoms caused by the dull weather.

Herecomesthebusybride · 13/06/2024 14:43

I hear you OP, I'm sat inside with a blanket on and a cuppa! Don't want to be that person, but this time last year.. and the year before.. and the year before ☀️☀️☀️

ssd · 13/06/2024 14:46

My heating is on, the washing is hanging inside

Namechange746498 · 13/06/2024 14:54

Disclaimer that I am neither a heat nor freezing cold fan (temperate Autumn and Spring do me fine 😁) but...

Yes, it is on the colder side for June, but, it is still a reasonable temperature and definitely warmer than an average Winter's day, so why the hyperbolic language ("shivering", "miserable", "cold", "making the best of it")?

Can you nor your son not enjoy being outside in anything colder than a heatwave?

dontevencareifunreasonable · 13/06/2024 15:05

Tad on the sarky side!

I mean yes, we can. We do. But sitting outdoors in a farm shop with a play area just isn’t much fun when it’s cold (and it really is cold and windy and rainy.) No ones in immediate danger of hypothermia or anything but just shivery, chilly, grateful to get back inside sort of weather. And that’s fine but we have what, eight months of that sort of weather as a rule? So the summer is supposed to be a bit of respite!

OP posts:
Bluevelvetsofa · 13/06/2024 15:07

Swear, not sweat. I know no one is sweating. Everyone is shivering, but not swearing.

Fairyliz · 13/06/2024 15:11

I agree op it’s shit.
We have months and months of cold grey weather, can’t we just have a bit of sunshine?
Dont really expect to be wearing two layers of wool and have a blanket over my lap in June.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/06/2024 17:59

My DS2 is just about to board a plane home from 35 degree Rhodes
At the uk airport which is also his home city, it's 12 degrees and 35mph wind gusts.. if the plane can land( Bristol)

This is exactly what I was going to write. It’s the flippin jet stream. I assume the rest of Northern Europe is enduring a crappy summer as well. Anyone out there in Scandinavia or Holland or Germany or France? Has your weather also been horrible?

Think of those poor people in Delhi right now. It over 52 degrees. I mean, f- me but that’s horrendous. I absolutely hate the heat. I’d rather put up with a dingy, grey summer than endure even 40 degrees, let alone 50.

My in laws are in France. They keep sending my pictures of beautiful beaches and blue sky and sun. They’re in t shirt and shorts

meanwhile I’m in my winter coat in 11 degree temperature with rain and wind 🥶

i agree op. It’s ridiculous. Where is the sunnnn

It's been a very ropey start to the summer in Iceland too. Though obviously it never gets very hot it's not common to see snow and storms in May/June which we have. A few lovely days in between though.

I think it's been quite nice in Scandinavia, though.

We're coming on holiday to England next week and would very much like to get over 20° and a bit of sunshine please! I don't know what the odds are though 😆
