Haven't been since I was diagnosed.

Where is good? Anywhere I should particularly make a point of going?

Are you on Facebook? I'm sure I've seen a totally GF cafe /patisserie in Paris mentored on a group I'm in. Let me see if I can find what it's called.

LiterallyOnFire · 12/06/2024 16:49

Ooo thanks. I was starting to regret not going to Italy (again).

Have a look at findmeglutenfree and other bloggers like https://www.legalnomads.com/gluten-free/france/

Thanks. I will.

Gluten free buckwheat crepes - look out for ‘blé noir’.

ZazieBeth · 12/06/2024 17:09

Noglu

Some ideas https://glutenlibre.co/blog-sans-gluten/le-top-11-des-boulangeries-sans-gluten-a-paris/

And if you like classic French food, there's plenty that's gluten free. Bonne dégustation !

Thanks. Yes dinners are fine. I don't usually eat much in the way of carbohydrates anyway.

It was the thought of having to watch DH with his Tarte aux pommes and so on that made me suddenly think about it. DD is also coeliac so boulangeries are perfect for me to bring something back for her.

Literally "Black flour"? Interesting. Thanks so much. I wish buckwheat was more commonly used here.

I'm coeliac and going to Paris this summer to volunteer at the Olympics, and planning on several visits to NoGlu. There are several GF restaurants that come up, and another GF bakery so it looks like lots of choice

In Brittany, it seems that all savoury crepes are ‘blé noir’. DD is coeliac, and she also has sweet toppings on buckwheat. Eating out in a creperie is very easy for her. Hopefully also an option for Paris.

We were in Paris recently so with a family of coeliacs I can recommend a few! Little Nonna was amazing, Yummy and GuiltFree, loulou paris (Australian cafe), amorino or grom for ice cream with gluten free cones.

LiterallyOnFire · 12/06/2024 18:09

I never would have thought that @CherryMaple never in a million years would I even have bothered looking at crepes. Thanks so much for the tip.

Thanks @handmademitlove. Have you got a good memory or were you making a list? That's very comprehensive. Cheers.

blé noir = black wheat (farine is flour)

It won't help if you're full-on coeliac, but people who have gluten intolerance can usually eat French bread and pastry because it's made differently from the UK.

Oh OFC. I had my farine de ble backwards didn't I?

Just as well you corrected me because I'm planning to pick up some almond flour while I'm there. That would be a confusing conversation if I asked for amande ble. Blush

I would avoid Little Nonna at all costs! We were so excited to go there with my coeliac mom for her birthday. Four out of the 6 of us had the same dish and all got terribly sick the next day. The two that didn't eat were fine!

user2910182 · 12/06/2024 18:29

Just to say this was only 2 weeks ago that we went there

Fink · 12/06/2024 18:29

... unfortunately for you, farine d'amande won't get you much further. Almond flour is 'poudre d'amandes'.

The French language is quite strict on what is and isn't flour!

Edited because of a typo (in English!)

Thanks. I was hoping for RL (and recent) personal experience.

@LiterallyOnFire we were there just after Easter. My DD is coeliac and autistic so we have to research carefully before we go anywhere - she won't eat anywhere if she thinks there is even a small risk of being ill! Hence the 100% gluten free options.

I usually set up a list on Google maps when we travel, so I can add places I want to visit and then find them easily!
