Bash the shell a bit all the way round, slice the egg in two lengthways using a sharp knife and scoop out the egg from both halves using a tablespoon like you would an avocado.
It takes seconds.
You're welcome!

Well, thanks very much I'll give that a try. So annoying when the shell is stuck on firmly!

Greengrapeofhome · 09/06/2024 20:44

I will definitely try this!

Twoweeksandcounting · 09/06/2024 20:44

I tap both ends firmly on the work surface, then roll the egg all around so the shell kind of shatters. It should then peel away with the membrane in one shattered piece.

But sorry, your way sounds good too, forgot to say!

sixtyandsomething · 09/06/2024 20:45

going to try both of these

oObyeOo · 09/06/2024 20:46

I like my eggs runny. I think this might be too messy for me

Shall we youtube it!

Elieza · 09/06/2024 20:52

I started buying organic eggs.
Haven't had this problem since. The membrane separates easily.
It must be something to do with how the hens are cared for (food etc)?

Fresher eggs are harder to 'peel'

The older they are, the easier it gets.

Looooong time chicken keeper.

WittiestUsernameEver · 10/06/2024 07:33

I always thought it was how you cooked them affected how easy it is to peel.

DeanElderberry · 10/06/2024 07:48

Put the egg into boiling water and you'll have no trouble removing the shell when it's cooked. It's cooking them from cold that causes the problem.

Cadela · 10/06/2024 07:50

Also - best tip ever! If you tap the round end of the egg BEFORE boiling lightly with the back of a spoon until it makes a loud pop (don’t break the shell, it may take quite a few taps) it peels perfectly every single time even when fresh.

It bursts the air bubble at the bottom and works some sort of magic. You can even peel soft boiled eggs this way.

I always put mine in boiling water and often have issues.

Bjorkdidit · 10/06/2024 07:53

There doesn't appear to be any rule to it. I've had eggs out of the same box, cooked the same way at the same time, where one has been easy to peel and the others take ages.

Or prick it, as many of us always do (contrary to yesterday's thread making it sound like a weird custom of yesteryear). Those plastic headed pins used for fixing thing to noticeboards make good egg-prickers.

I just put them in cold water once boiled, tap the shells all over and it just comes off in seconds, I don’t understand why there’s all this chat about ways to make it easier, peeling eggs is really easy anyway.

I also put them in cold water, then when I want to peel them I just roll them on the bench a couple of times and the shell just falls off. Pretty sure I got the tip from MN.

Clarence Court eggs are always easy to peel, not sure why.

grannycake · 10/06/2024 08:55

I cook mine in Instant Pot - shells come away cleanly every time

Was just coming on to say this and @flatwhiteinabucket has beaten me to it! I always have to forewarn people if I give them eggs from one of my girls!
